Wiring for most British cars has been pretty standardized over the years. I've used old MG and AH wiring harnesses to add or repair circuits to existing harnesses. Here's a link to typical British wiring color codes: https://www.autosparks.co.uk/bscc I've also found this place to be a good resource for electrical/wiring parts for British cars: https://www.britishwiring.com/default.asp There are 4 wires for the rear lights: Black (ground) Red/White - Tail lights (can be just red with no white tracer) Green/Purple - Stop lights Green/White - RH turn signal (Green/Red - LH turn signal)

Seriously this new manual sucks. Not only doesn’t it show assembly of the air box or oil overflow tank, it doesn’t show how to install a LHD throttle cable. All the other blogs are RHD. And where the manual says to do it is WAY too late for a LHD. I had to undo the plenum, some plumbing, and air intake to remove the top of the pedal box. Wish I had been warned to do that earlier.

There are 4 wires for the rear lights: Black (ground) Red/White Green/Purple Green/White I'm assuming someone here know which one is for each function? Also, what gauge wire is used ? I'm working on a neat project that you guys might find interesting.......... stay tuned.

Thank you - I hadn't considered that, and while I might not remember exactly what I was doing, you are probably correct. I have seen your track videos, and you clearly know what you are doing. What pads do you use? My proportioning valve is located on the side of the pedal box cover. See the picture below. I did not want it in the drivers compartment because I didn't want to be tempted to play with it. The temptation to add more rear brake to get the car to turn into the corner might lead to a big mistake. I was looking around at options for parking brakes and found a mechanical valve sold by Speedway Motors. I do not think I would rely on it without putting the car in gear, but it was simple. To set the brake you step on the brake pedal and push the valve closed. To release you step on the brake pedal harder than you did to set the brake. I have a warning for you that the flexible hose that runs to the De Dion tube does not have a regular M10 1.0 thread fitting. You do not have to replace what is on the car. I put the brake valve where the normal emergency brake handle goes, and you can't put a new hard brake line in without removing all the rear suspension. I used a stainless braided line and got a new manifold for the split to the two calipers.

Can I be second in line please, I am in Chicago (SW Suburbs). -
Just to muddy the waters the engine braking can be quite significant on the rears, especially if you aggressively downshift to high revs on corner entry. If you don't heel/toe/rev match on the downshifts it can break the rear tires free briefly.

Hi Guys and Girls, I am looking to experiment a bit with wheels and tyres. I have a set of the original Minitaur 14 x 6 inch wheels that came with my 2014 Roadsport and i recently purchased and fitted a set of 13 inch x 6 and 8 inch K&N Caterham wheels. I am trying to find a set of Caterham 15 x 6.5 inch Orcus 6 spoke wheels to fit my 2014, De Dion Caterham. I would prefer to find a set of well used rims as i am going to powder coat them anyway so pristine wheels would be a waste. Cheap is better because they will cost a fortune to ship out to me. Has anyone here got a set they aren't using and want to sell? Thanks Dave

Subbing for info as I've been considering this upgrade for a while. Where did you put the proportioning valve? I'd be interesting in seeing/hearing more about the install.

If you split the calipers, please replace the square sealing ring between the two sides with the correct part. Do not simply use an o-ring. I have split the calipers and replaced the sealing ring, and I have rebuilt them without splitting. Both methods work out just fine.

There actually isn't much similarity at all, thank goodness. The Ducati has its valves set at an 80° angle IIRC (ie: not good!). The exhaust port is ok but the intake port is awful with the incoming charge flowing across the valve head. It takes a lot of work to make the intake port simply bad rather than unbelievably horrible. In contrast, the twink valve angle is much smaller (mid-30s comes to mind but I can't remember for sure) and the ports are beautifully laid out. Things have moved on, for sure, but the twink head was state of the art at the time.

The SDK is the manufacturer code for Caterham. The other K indicates a kit built car. -

Avon Tyres has been bought by Nova Motorsport, UK
CarlB replied to Anaximander's topic in Wheels and Tires
Today I got an email from NOVA Motorsports that the parent company purchased a Portugues tire manufacturer called Camac. Camac is a small specialty tire manufacturer, much like Avon. They make a lot of tires for classic cars. Coker Tire sells their stuff. They either do or have made Rally tires. They said in the email that they were working to get important Avon employees, so we will have to see what happens. -
I just installed and did a track day with the Caterham AP rear brake kit. I have the AP front brakes. I have a manual proportioning valve installed and I had it set to the maximum setting to reduce the rear line pressure. I do not consider myself a good driver and would like the opinion of someone who uses the AP rear brakes. I thought I still had more rear brake than I wanted. I was getting some very minor rear lock up on turn in. A good driver drove the car and did not complain or mention it. I am not sure if it is my driving or brake pads. The fronts are Performance friction 01 compound and the rears are Pagid RS14. I was not happy with the performance friction pads before. I generally like a pad with a lot of initial bite, and I have no comparison on the Pagid pad. What are other people using for pads?

Thanks EW. I purchased a 12Sp kit this morning but will reach out to Girling to confirm. I can always use the SP kit on my Elan. I'll report back what I find. I never split my calipers. Clean them up best I can, install new piston and seals, and put them back on. No need to add drama.

Hi Terry. A number of years ago I required new brake piston seals for my 1969 Lotus Seven which is equipped with the later 14LF callipers from the Mk3 and 4 Spitfire (This information is according to Goodridge U.K.) Girling U.K. has a web site contact option, and may be best to contact as they can go back into their library and advise which seal kit is best for your situation. Goodridge U.K. were also very helpful, and supplied me with a photocopy of all the parts for my callipers. They mostly sell brake hose kits for many U.K. and European cars and did include the Seven, but I couldn't find the Seven kit on their site anymore. Burton U.K. were also very helpful with brake line kits and I obtained a 'vintage looking' set for my Seven from them. You probably know this already, but it is best that you do not attempt to split the calliper bodies undoing the bolts. A new small rubber seal would be required (this can be obtained still as a spare part), but leaks may ensue if the halves are not bolted back together with the correct torque. Lotus and Girling recommended that you should never separate the halves. Good luck with your search and kit experience. EW
