  1. UK.

    Born/raised.

    *Matchbox* by Lesney.

    Yellow/orangeish Lotus super 7 1:43 scale.

Owned several. These toys made a sort of "imprint" in my Noggin..

    USA.

    Late teens on.

Early twenties...I stumbled on an SCCA autox and entered my Rabbit GTI after noticing that these people don't laugh AT others, They laugh with them.

Next event... Modded 7s showed up. 7 clone with a 2.0 Porsche 911 mill in it. A second one with a large Yamaha Mill in it. and a third with a Toyota twin cam. I drooled for 17 years. In 2001 I found a Birkin. I went and looked. Thought; " Feck it all, I'm Buying it."

  2. From a guy in his 50's "Is that a Prowler?".....[Nossir]

From a Couple in their 30's "Is that a Rolls Royce?" .....[uh...]

From a Kid at an Auto parts store "Is it front wheel drive?"....[No , it's a real car]

From another Kid " Is it , Like , Uh, street legal and everything?....We're looking at the rump of the car with a license plate...[Lol!]

From a 4-5 yr old girl, (the brightest of the lot I think.) "Why is your car so small?" ....[Well Missy, I think it's because Big Bird likes mall cars] was my response but I was thinking about how to explain C Chapman's * Add lightness* philosophy to a tyke.

  3. Here are some things to check:

1, What are the camber specs for each corner?

You may have too little or excessive front camber neg.

2, What tyre pressures are in setting?

You may need to test 'n' fiddle with tyre pressures. If you carry ballast in the passenger seat, you'll have to either raise the rear tyre pressures or lower the fronts by 2/3 psi once you have discovered the optimum tyre pressures for driver only operation.

3, What kind of tyres do you use?

I have recently removed the Rcompound rubber I had been using on the car and put some narrower cheapo Firestones on the car. Now it understeers badly, without alignment or any other change.

4,What degree of rake is the suspension set at?

The differential between front and rear right height affects the balance of grip between front and rear.

  4. i spot a rabbit in the garage!

    a fellow vw/seven guy!

    :)

The 7 cured me of VWs :7drive:

I also had a Corrado SLC and an A2 GTI when I got the Birkin. The rabbit was a 1983 GTI that I rescued from the junkyard before the Title went from salvage to parts only.

  5. Having Murphy's Law interested in the project really tends to prolong things.

I had spent the last year accumulating $3ks worth of parts to rebuild the engine in my E30 M3. This is my other track rat because the BMWCCA won't allow open cars (my Birkin) in their HPDE events.

So in late may I start rebuilding the bottom end in my living room. Early june, I decided to buy some ARP Conrod bolts. Those arrived about a couple of days before the Cedar river decided to flush the sewers and proceed to flood the house up to the ceiling ( 9ft above ground).

I lost most of my electronic tools, and am now still cleaning my hard tools and trying to repair my electric tools. I also lost some parts for a Megasquirt EFI conversion for the Birkin in the flood. ...And Summer is fleeing. :banghead:

  6. Russ.

I'm in Independence Iowa for a while. I was flooded out of Cedar Rapids in June.

If I can get time off from work , I would like to attend.

  8. I tried making one from plexiglass, first cut it to fit the roll bar, buffeting was not reduced and might actually be slightly worse. Today cut it down to 8" and it is maybe a little better. Has anyone made or bought one that works better? Is mesh maybe better than something solid?

Yesterday I fitted the mesh wind blocker from a BMW Z3 to the rollbar on my Birkin. Did a hundred miles. No reduction in wind noise, but more exhaust fumes backdrafting into the cockpit. :_deadhorse:

Looks like the solution to the wind noise/buffeting will be sidescreens that are high enough that your elbows are almost perpendicular to your torso.

  9. I still have the rear exit exhaust on my Birkin.

I had a Gila tinted polycarbonate rear window screen left over from a 1977 Camaro. I trimmed a wind deflector out of it for the Birkin. It really cut down on the exhaust fumes back drafting into the cock pit , but did little or nothing to ease the noise and buffeting. The rear wings are responsible for the buffeting, imo. I think I would like some side screens.

  10. I take that back... looks like someone in Taiwan really likes Sevens. They currently have 67 open connections to the site:

  11. Here's my description of a drive in the 7, even after 7 years .

It is shod with r-compounds 24/7

First drive in the spring when it hits 50 deg F.

I get in the car, insert noise plug in Left earhole, back out of the driveway.

shift the T9 into first, punch the accelerator, then..... Oh sh8t!, f785!, WOW!, Gasp!, Pant! Whee! UhOH! Whee! Haha! I'M ALIIIVE! WOOT! etc etc.

After I stop. I have to sit for 30 sec, otherwise I'll fall on my butt, because my legs and hands are shaking, and I cannot think straight enough to socialize.

It is impossible for me to take in any scenery, except hazards, when I'm driving it. :)

  12. My Birkin has the Ford ECU dangling thru a slot the size of the ecu body that is cut at the top of the passenger footwell at the Distal end.

The harness connector then "clamps" the ECU. No known problems except that the ECU cannot manage the raised compression f 10.2 to 1.

    megasquirt coming .

  13. Hi There.

Long time 7 watcher, then 7 year Birkin owner here.

26700k miles on my Birkin which I obtained in the fall of 2000.

I was inspired to seven ownership courtesy of the Matchbox mustard coloured Lotus Super Seven in my youth.

I have known quite a few seven owners/builders via the local SCCA, a couple of whom are well known in D and E Mod circles.

I also an E30M3 owner and will be acquiring an Elise.
