  1. I'd stay with your 485. The 620 comes with a sequential which is not really road friendly. Plus the 620 is only right hand drive as the super charger installation precludes swapping over the steering column.
  2. That was the green with yellow stripe one at Wirewheel? I think that was one of the run of supercharged Birkins when Dick Brink was experimenting with for a bit. With that hp, you would want the Birkin IRS, something the ad is silent on. A live axle rear end would just be wrapping itself up in knots and tramping. Congratulations on the wise choice to preserve your license!!!
  3. The UFO car (red & white stripes) is owned by Clarke. We spent a lot of time swapping ideas as he was ahead of me in the restoration process and were were both using Korman Autoworks to do our engines. Really knowledgeable guy.
  4. Have a embed on me I enjoyed that. Brings back great memories of Sunday morning drives I used to do - west and north west Sydney. My idea of a perfect drive. Currently streaming your Last Run of the Season video on the big tv while brewing coffee. Thank you for sharing.
  5. Great video Todd! One question - what's your thinking for the narrow entry into Turn 5? Is it that you maximized the high speed turn 4 and there is no incremental speed/time advantage to coming all the way back right ahead of the entry into Turn 5 as you just travel too far?
  6. The essential difference between a Stalker and Caterham is the build. A Caterham comes as a nice neat kit, all the pieces (eventually) wrapped up and supplied. A mechanical numpty can put one together as a modest challenge and turn out a very nice looking result. The Stalker requires more skills of the builder, more fabrication, more effort generally. Some level of parts sourcing needs to occur. That extra effort turns out a very professional looking seven, equal to the Caterham, but it asked more of the builder to get there. Now that could all be moot if you plan to have someone else build the car but if you plan to build it, then this is a major difference between the two. Similarly, handling. Both cars can be set up to handle brilliantly but the Caterham will do it out of the box while the Stalker will require the nous of the owner to dial in it. Some people have the patience and aptitude to dial in a car's handling. I love doing it. But others hate it and just want the settings to make it work now. Lastly, whats your vision for a Se7en? Is it a light, nimble, 4 pot screamer? Or is it a slightly heavier, torque driven animal? The answer to that comes from the question Coffee Break posted above - what is your intended usage?
  7. Its too fast for road really. Its enormously fun to drive but you do find the limits of the rear end to get grip and stay planted. As a track weapon it is an incredible piece of kit but still tricky to keep the rear end sticking.
  8. Caterham https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-lotus-seven-2/
  9. Love the blue - really pops! I am guessing you took that photo at Franklin Marine on the Huon River, as the old MV Cartela is in the background. I donated some money for the restoration although I heard they put the vessel up for sale this year as they could not reach the target needed. I hope they can sort something out to bring her back to operating condition.
  10. Really sorry to hear of this misfortune Sander. Wretched luck. Sadly all too common these days. I pulled up a photo of your car to check what you were describing as it was not immediately intuitive. Its only the license plate light and nothing else if I read correctly? While it sounds more like you were nudged and not rear ended, I would be checking where the spare tire frame meets chassis at rear of car. It could have bent there or otherwise been compromised. Look for any buckling of the ali skin near there. Easy enough to stick your head under there and inspect. Hopefully you caught some luck and no issues.

  12. That photo never gets tiring. You really drive for shit Skip!
  13. Moving off sevens for a moment. One of the club members bought an original Porsche speedster with incredible racing history. At the other end of the Porsche spectrum, was a Carrera GT that turned up
  14. Paul and his Birkin Jay followed by Paul Last group pic Thank you to all who attended. Hopefully we can do it again next year with numbers back to normal with Covid-19 having (hopefully) gone away.
  15. Simon: "Felix, can you tell your father to speed up? He's too slow!" Felix: "DAD!...." Front to back: Steve in his Birkin XS, Blake in his Caterham SV 360 and Jim in his Caterham Superlight Seb leading Simon in their identical Caterham 420Rs with the order soon to swap. These two played tag all weekend. I think Simon may have got the best of Seb Yes and a lap later, Simon leads Seb.
  16. Tom's Birkin XS Vlad's Caterham Superlight Vlad in his Caterham Superlight followed by Bruce driving my Caterham CSR Looks similar to my CSR but its Tom's Birkin XS
  17. Simon in his 420R Vlad in his Caterham Superlight Steve in his Birkin XS Jeff's very pretty little BDA+ engined Caterham. Sounded a treat.
  18. "The track entry is that way Dad" Felix providing guidance to lost father. Guidance worked as Seb found his way on to the track. Jeff in his Caterham BDA+ followed by Tom Carlin of Birkin America in a Birkin XS. On the blue Caterham, check out the driver side front tire. The vertical strip on the outer side edge is where the tire delaminated during the session - discovered when Jeff came into the pits. From left to right: Bruce Beachman of Beachman Racing/Caterham Dealer, Jim, Carl (a Caterham owner but not driving)
  19. Jay in his Caterham SV Blake in his Caterham 360 SV Paul in his Birkin Jim in his Caterham Zetec Superlight
  20. Seb and his son Felix, working hard to prep the Caterham.
  21. Mike the pro photographer has come through. I will work out how to get the hi-res images to those who participated - meanwhile enjoy the photos!
  22. This is an excellent write up. Great reading. Never heard anything about this track as I all I hear from the Dallas crowd are stories about the Cresson track. I guess its better? I thought I taught him at NJMP when I showed the limits of tire grip in a 1965 Mustang while desperately trying to hold off Kitcat from passing me? Who was the passenger this time? Help me here? Why did you need a generator? I have never used one on a track day other than to keep the beer cold. Oh wait...this is a Texas track day. Never mind. Ahhhh yes. Brings back fond memories of NJMP Lightning circuit 4 or 5 years back. I have your father, Larry, in the passenger seat of my Caterham while I take him around the track. Meanwhile, you try to make a lunge for a pass at turn 1, miss and spray off into the scenery with a mushroom cloud of dust. Larry takes one look in the rear view mirror, turns to me and yells, "Thats my boy!!! with a happy smile. I cried laughing. It runs in the family Shane, it runs in the family. Would have thought you were used to this one by now? :jester:
  23. Hypothetical - buy the 420R spec roller kit, add in the build fee, taxes and allow for shipping (to East Coast since I know that number) and you get a completed car at around $61K that is more recent than a 2014 kit (built 2017) and higher spec than the car auctioned (inclusive of buyer premium) costing $63k. For an apples to apples comparison, we should add shipping on to the auction car at $1500 and the differential increases to $3500 area in favor of the new 420R roller kit. Some people would not blink at that price differential and others will choke. Some people want it now and others are prepared to wait. Thats your basic evaluation a buyer would be making. The only thing that would swing the choice beyond that is color preference and for that no amount of money is going to swing it with some buyers.
