I use the ZZS as my road and wet track tire on my CSR and think they are great. Here they are on my car. I was the fastest thing out there that day and I think Caterhams are tricky things to drive in the wet However, if you do not experience rain then consider the Avon ZZR. There are two compounds to choose from depending how sticky you like it. They are excellent performance tires. Going from the old Avon CR500 to the ZZR was a 3 second drop in lap time. I know a few Caterham owners local to me use them. However, the ZZRs are lethal in any wet conditions. You may be ok being based on the west coast. And to answer Panamericano's question - there is enough power that rotating the rear is not a problem. Its more over rotation you have to watch for.... You will not be able to read the MBE ECU - its locked down. Its a J1962 plug under the dash - looks OBDII but is not. You need a cable from SBD and then Easimap to read what it is doing but is just to read it not re-map it. There is a password for allowing changes but that can be an offline discussion. https://www.sbdmotorsport.co.uk/index.php/products/cat/5/115 The workaround can be to use an AIM Solo DL. The AIM Solo DL using the AIM OBDII cable will read the MBE ECU if you tell the software that you are driving a Noble car. I use that approach to diagnose things. An illustration is via the following: Some fields look goofy - the throttle position for one. I think the engine data is lagged compared to the GPS track data. But that still might be more useful than a laptop running easimap when you cannot record. cheers mike

Hi Clark - I talked with Steve yesterday and saw his Birkin. No issues with the wrap near the exhaust. As exhaust passes through body from engine bay to outside, no issues. There is a strip of edging trim around the metal edges which protects things too. He said the wrap was done by Tom Carlin of Birkin America. So your friendly Birkin dealer has all the information you need. cheers mike

Do you know what compound Avon you are running? i.e. how soft they are?

Hi Angelo. Welcome to the USA7s forum! To answer your question you are probably looking at $26-30k area for a regular S3 Caterham. If it is S5/SV width Caterham then thats high $20s to low $30s - all depending on condition. Duratec usually adds a few extra thousand usually just because it will be a more recent year. A zetec equivalent Birkin will be circa $22-26k. A useful resource as you are researching will be to look at current ads on the forum to get a sense of the market. Somewhat similar, check out the Bringatrailer data here: https://bringatrailer.com/lotus/seven/ The graph at that page is going to confuse as some models went for low money and some went high - not sure I can explain why. Right day and the right car and the right seller and the right buyers and the price can be amazing. Hi Skip, "Work" should be read in the context of home work/inspection/possibly some mechanical. My observations: a) Google the phone number to understand what this company normally sells and read some of their other car sale ads to get a flavor. The seller is not an uniformed seller for it to be that cheap. Its cheap for a reason. Regular value would be $40-45K, possibly more if pristine. New chassis kits are $50K. Drive train is probably a $25k package these days. Struck me as strange that the VIN and license plate were obscured in an ad where you are required to disclose in order to make a sale? Carfax time. b) Looks like it had a hit on passenger rear wing - its discolored. When it did hit, what was replaced? This is IRS and not as robust as the de dion. Really need to remove the wheel and have a close look. The hub is a billet aluminum component - not cheap to replace. Given a), you may not be able to find out. c) This is a 2007 model so only 2 diff mount points. While you can add the 2 extra braces - fairly easy - given the track history you probably still have metal fatigue on the diff casing to address. The old style 2 point mounting failed regularly with track use unless it was upgraded - looking in the boot area would tell me if it was as the extra mounts are visible. d) Engine - these Cosworth engines have a dry sump tower dipstick for oil levels but it does not really work as it should. You only know it is at the correct oil level when it just stops blowing oil into the catch tank - the engine knows to find its right level. Most people replaced the original plastic catch tank as the oil just misted everywhere if you followed the correct Caterham/Cosworth operating procedure to get to the right oil level. That oil catch tank is dry and no residue inside and no oil mist mess outside - so oil level could be too low and its been tracked. Oil cap is a strange one? This is the most expensive risk factor in this car. But it is a Cosworth and it is a sensational engine. e) Clutch looks replumbed but not sure why? f) Air box and exhaust mods look like they were designed to get under 92db so ok. g) Mileage advertized at 500 miles but the photos tell me its much older None of this is a deal killer at the low price but potential buyers should inspect knowing what to look for. If anyone here is serious to buying it, I would be happy to talk through things to look for on this model CSR since this is the first time I can remember this specific curvy dash chassis version has come up on here since 2010. I doubt the seller is that informed to answer specific questions though. In person inspection probably wise but there would be USA7s folks in San Diego (Sabbot is there). Hi Vlad - CSRs were S5 sized, i.e. identical to an SV. There were 2 S3s built using the IRS off the CSR - one of these was developmental and one was a factory engineer building one for fun for himself. Both are in the UK. One came up for sale a few years back. The reason they did not make an S3 was not packaging, although it does destroy what little boot space you have, it was more cost issues that stopped it going forward plus an understanding of the likely market to be targetted for sales (i.e. touring). We are 3 weeks out from this event. All in order and organized. Drivers Club events are going smoothly under the Covid-19 restrictions. Numbers look to be a little down on prior year due to the virus upending everything but projecting 17-19 participants based on sign ups so far which is better than I expected. You should know Panamericano (are you named after a Starbucks frou frou ladies coffee?), I now spend my evenings looking at my feet. Have not seen them in such a long time now that my stomach has receded several miles. Such a novelty. I guess I need to stop kicking heads, asses, HR flunkies, small furry animals, clutch pedals..... Now to focus on pulling the engine to replace my Caterham clutch that decided to unfortunately fail two weeks back. Could have picked a better time.

It should be ok. Mornings will be chilly - may be in the 40s but warm gear will be enough. Day temps will warm up into the 50s and 60s. Should be plenty of sun. Stay with aeroscreen. My trick is to use a windproof jacket over a fleece + tshirt and this stops 100+mph breezes. Gloves are often a good idea. Dinners is where you will need the warm gear. Still trying to iron out details of staying safe (so eating outside) and staying warm.
