  1. Croc

    New Build

Yes. The film on mine goes to the top of the wing and around the sides. The Caterham stone protectors - metal or carbon are too small to protect the wing fully.
  2. Lovely looking color. Decent spec too.
  3. Croc

    New Build

I have the 3M clear film on my carbon wings. Survived 10 years fairly well. It’s dirty (sorry) but the film is intact. I have never used the stone guards.

  5. The resin bead seat was excellent. Kept me very secure and comfortable. Toe is bleeding again. I think I bashed it on a snap down change. Oops.
  6. Still, it was a damn good day. Blew out some cobwebs and cheered me up no end. Mechanical destruction does that to men for some reason.
  7. Well Andy wins the prize as the smartest guy around. By session 3 the new battery was dead and I think the alternator is the cause. That’s what likely gave my old battery it’s boobs. New battery is on charge now just so I can put a meter over the terminals to confirm. Found the new spare alternator in the storage closet and it is on the seat to change tomorrow when I err cough cough ...work from home. Sorry Paul - no video. I was planning to do that session 4 which never happened. Oh and Shane. It was not just F Bombs. There were Cs and Ts and Ss and many other things!!!

  9. Paul - Just put the Osmo battery on charge for you. Today wont be the interesting day on track. Wednesday afternoon will be.
  10. I think you underestimate the emotional trauma I suffered from seeing my pedicure mutilated today. Besides, I am now fascinated that you felt the need to put a fancy sticker like that on a trivial scrape you suffered. Did you do it with a red sharpie? Feather?
  11. Tomorrow the track opens up. 50 people. No guests or family members - just drivers. Box lunches. Social distancing in the pits. Must wear masks. Usual stuff. But I get to drive! The car was still fresh from it’s winter service. So all I had to do was check oil levels, swap over to 13 inch wheels, and check tire pressures. Ah no.... Tires swapped over but then I blew up a compressor. Switch to a back up compressor. Then I noticed the battery was suspiciously bulging.... So that came out and new one went in. Then the car just did not want to fire - oh it cranked over nicely. I had air. I had spark. But was missing fuel - no whiny bitch fuel pump could be heard? Hmmmm. Checked the fuses. Checked the roll over switch. Checked the immobilizer on the steering column. All good. Fuel pump was good. Hmmm. At this point I go off searching for a second light to help me see. At which point I stub toe. Into a steel seat frame sitting on the garage floor. Ripped the toe nail off. Nice meaty gash. Blood everywhere. Many bad words were said. I secured the toe nail with race tape and then band aids on top to keep it hygienic. Hindsight says the race tape may be a bad idea as I stuck it to the top of the toenail. So it will lift when I try to remove the tape? Crap. After much tracing, the culprit proved to be the fuse box disintegrating. The little metal cops that carrying current were moving. So it’s bodged together to allow me to run tomorrow and Wednesday. Will do a proper rebuild afterwards. She runs. So a few test drives around the paddock. Confirmed oil levels. Then prepped by getting gear - helmet, gloves, etc. Got fuel as the NJMP tanks are probably last years. Ready for tomorrow now. A neighbor (also a Birkin owner!) dropped by with some beer to numb my pain. Then the track founder turned up to help drink some more beer. I am feeling nicely buzzed. Bring on some driving tomorrow - I am so over this lockdown.
  12. To wrap this up, I trimmed the resin seat result, cut a hole for the crotch belt and bundled it all together for the upholsterer to do their job and create a cover for it. The consistency is nice and hard now. But it would all start coming lose if you started abrading it. Quite a comfortable seat. Will test it out tomorrow.
  13. How I do it is track the for sales that come up weekly. That gives me data points on what different cars are asking - age, spec, brand, condition. The only problem with that is that Bringatrailer is distorting certain segments of the market with higher values as their chart proves if you ignore the Lotus 7s and focus solely on the Caterhams: https://bringatrailer.com/lotus/seven/ If older crossflow Caterhams are reaching $30K on BAT then yours would logically be around $40k (give or take a range) - 2013, Duratec, healthy options spec, great colors. Question is whether buyers are out there wanting to pay that? COVID19 seems to have had strange effects on the market too.
  14. They are better than I expected. The Caterham cloth seats always faded badly. I would not replace them but: 1) Remove them from the car and give them a thorough clean 2) Get a pro upholsterer to do a repair on that belt hole - probably $100 if you take the base to him. 3) If the fading still looks bad after cleaning and repair then look for Dupli-color Fabric Coating (used to be known as Fabric Color by Mar-Hyde until 3M bought it out). Its a spray dye for refreshing seats like this. You mask up the non-fabric areas you do not want to touch (e.g. edge piping, logo, etc) then spray them. Surface prep is critical. Very light coat then wait for 10-15 mins then repeat cycle again and again. Let cure for 2 weeks before using. Patience. Rustoleum has a similar product but I never have used it. I used the Mar-Hyde product on faded black cloth Caterham seats close to 15 years ago - worked well and no-one ever noticed. You can buy this stuff on Amazon. https://www.duplicolor.com/product/vinyl-and-fabric-coating/ If the spray treatment seems too much for you then I bet a good auto detailer would know how to bring it back too with some other product. If it was me then I would just do steps 1 and 2 and leave step 3 for the buyer unless it still looked really bad.
  15. Its Vlad that has the issue not me. I am perfect! :jester: (just ignore my other bespoking elsewhere...) Its a pretty small amount and besides its Vlad thats driving. Paige, his F, significant other, better driver, etc., is faster than him at lapping race circuits. She might notice it if I was driving. :jester:
  16. You really cannot buy CSR wheels off the shelf anymore. You have to get them custom made which is not the cheapest approach to life.
  17. You don’t need to cut up those red seats for 6 pt belts. The crotch belts pass under the backrest and then surface in between the seat base and backrest. You then sit on the belts
  18. Relax Carl - you did not offend anyone. It was entertaining because that’s exactly how I would have described it. Anyway, it’s now off in Rotus heaven. Yes the photos were at tail of the dragon. Your car features there albeit with its former owner. I forgot it had yellow clams at that point in its life.
  19. Quite a few times over the years from on track G forces. Very common - its not just me or you. They are not the sturdiest of seat frames. Peel it all apart and weld the frame back up. Sorry - don't have photos of one disassembled.
  20. I have to admit that yiou have been having a rough (re)build John. I thought a little garden variety 2L duratec....how hard could it be. But this has got more quirks and turns than I ever expected. I did not realize the level of subtle changes to the engine components over the years from the early days of the engine's introduction. After all you were a pioneer in Duratec engines in sevens. I know a good engine builder if you need to admit defeat? :deadhorse:
  21. Can we add that self-portrait of Shane into the standard emoticon kit that this forum gets? It should get frequent use....

  23. Mazda's (Slngsht) Rotus is featured in this Jalopnik article about the 7-7-7 event - bit of a memory lane read and photo blog for some old forum members like Kitcat, JohnCh, and Jerry. Not sure if MichaelD turns up here anymore? https://jalopnik.com/se7en-se7en-oh-my-se7en-277056 and https://jalopnik.com/jalopnik-presents-the-se7en-se7en-se7en-awards-277573 And there's the man himself in the yellow shirt, trying to self consciously not pose for the cameraman. I can recognize many of these cars - most are still around today even if the owners have moved on.
  24. Uh oh, that was a certain USA7s forum administrator's seven. Well former seven. I think the car autocrossed itself into a lamp post as it was trying to run away. :leaving: I'm probably going to get banned now aren't I?
