  2. You know what is good about this post thread - you have a bunch of happy customers recommending their dealer based on their own past experience. To have three positive dealer recommendations on the west coast is a good thing in support of Caterhams.
  3. Good spot! That looks like it. I have never seen that used in a seven before. Clearly the owner has upped the boost from the Ford days to get to 300hp.

  5. This is an excellent coaching video from Rob at L7C who had a good session with Jamie Unwin. If you ever wanted to understand why a good driver coach can make such a difference then watching this will help you understand. From my point of view, it taught me a lot of new ideas to try when I eventually escape my lockdown and get back traveling. First corner analysis starts at 6:11 if you want to fast forward. Jump to the sections of the video of interest: Introduction Redgate Hollywood & Craner Curves Old Hairpin Starkeys Bridge & Schwantz Curve Mcleans Top Corner Fogarty Esses Melbourne Loop Goddards Simulator Lap If you want to drive Donington for the first time this is a good video to look at once you have the layout clear in your mind. The instructor is Jamie Unwin at http://www.jamieunwinracing.com He instructs at Lotus 7 Club HPDE events in the UK and so knows a lot about driving sevens well
  6. Its a bit difficult these days but I would normally suggest you make the effort to visit Bruce's facility. Its an impressive set up and he has a bunch of cars in various states of assembly/disassembly and that usually triggers some great discussion on options which gets you to a better plan on the options you want.
  7. I am more impressed with John's calm, patient, philosophic acceptance of what has to be incredibly frustrating hiccups. This thread will be a valuable resource to rebuilders of early adoption Duratecs in the future. Mind you I suspect John has also improved his beer consumption being locked down with a Duratec.

The Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels just did a joint flyover demonstration above New York at noon Nice red, white and blue streaming contrails. Great display. Apologies for photo quality - forgot to charge my Digital SLR camera. So much for social distancing - these guys were closer than 6 feet apart in their formation.
  14. I am in New Jersey so do not have that luxury - no dealer is in state or local to me. I survive quite happily without a local dealer. Most Caterham owners are similar to me. The real reason you may end up selecting a particular dealer is that they have the car you want. Caterham dealers are small volume. They do not keep a ton of kits on hand for customers. At the end of the day you will choose the dealer who has what you want available. Failing that then you are choosing the best dealer who will take you through the order process for a custom kit from start to finish - maybe 1-2 years - so will need to have a track record of being around for a while (especially in this business climate today). One thing that should be important to which dealer you select is how they manage foreign currency volatility on your order. They are all different. Ultimately you will pay for the FX volatility with all dealers but how you get there is very different depending on the individual dealer. This volatility can be a big cost or saving to your purchase price over the full lead time of an order process. You will not see it with other auto dealers as the Caterham lead process is so long and the GBP has been historically volatile against the USD.
  15. I think waistline and not inseam will be more relevant to whether you fit in an S3 or not. A couple of suggestions to send PMs from this forum. DStew (Darren) has a CSR up around Sonoma way although it may still be with Beachman Racing where it was being refreshed Sean (Sean) has an S3 around the San Francisco metro southern side Also you have Rich Kamp up at Sonoma Raceway as a Caterham specialist who has a kit for sale currently and probably has some cars in his workshop
  16. The UK prices on the configurator are in pounds and represent a car sold by Caterham directly. You cannot buy directly from Caterham as there are dealer contracts. So the dealer has to price the contract in dollars and with some markup for having money invested in a pipeline of stock that takes time from order to delivery. They also have to price for assembly. The engine/drivetrain process is a little more complicated in the US since they have to navigate US import rules - some money is in that effort. I was once told the Hillbank cars were more expensive as they were old pre-GBP drop against the dollar so they had to recover more. That occurred some time ago so the reason makes less sense as time moves on. It could be thats their starting point for negotiations. It could also be their way of managing the FX volatility in their inventory costs. Best way to check that is give the other dealers a call like Jim suggests above and get some price guidance from separate sales sources. All the items on the configurator are available for order here. However, keep in mind that the order book is about 1-1.5 years from deposit to receiving your kit. Caterham do not ship immediately. The good news about that is that you can place an order without having final spec. Then as new options emerge then you can add them into the build up to a few months before they commence putting the kit together. If you want instant gratification, then you will want to find out what all US dealers have in their current stock and pipeline of orders - that means giving them all a call. Most seem to have a small quantity of spec orders not yet sold that they ordered in anticipation of a walk in buyer. Then maybe you add selected limited options separately onto that to customize as you want. Either way, your best next step is call around and see what is in a container heading here or here already with a dealer and find out some prices. That will at least tell you if you need to make a custom order to get what you want.
  17. The four options are: Road - used on the 420S as standard Sport - used on the 420R as standard Track - Where are track bias is primary Race - For race cars There is little difference between Sport and Track. The average driver will not know any difference. The Race set up is noticeably firmer. Its too firm for the road. My 420R I keep at Donington lives on track and I am happy running it with the standard Sport suspension and 13 inch wheels. Never felt any need to upgrade. Handles great on track. Given you are a mix of road and track then I think you will be fine with the sport suspension set up.

  19. Thats excellent news. Confirms the original spec too.
  20. Firstly, I just want to say I like steaks on the grill and since you are in Georgia, you can invite me around as your state is now open for business and haircuts. I'll bring some nice microbrews. Secondly, its not just you having issues with Fedex. I spent 2 weeks chasing a delivery of parts out of the UK. Then proceeded to have to chase a food delivery down like you. Then my coffee delivery went astray (I only drink good stuff you know). Every delivery has been an absolute bear. Sadly, UPS is worse. DHL seems to be making a better go of it but such a pain to use them as they as not convenient. The US Postal service has stopped all pickups at all my local mail boxes - I have to make a 10 minutes drive or 30 min walk to the post office but I am not allowed in...I have to drop my post into a laundry basket outside. The issue with all delivery services right now is partly their drivers are skittish about working. So they have reduced people to make deliveries/pickups. The other part is that they relied on commercial airlines to connect their network rather than going hub to hub to spoke to rim - and they are not flying. So everything is so much slower than usual. If you like fish then this is also a good subscription option https://wildalaskancompany.com/
  21. Hi Steve Sorry to hear that Mr Shiny is having engine troubles. Looking at the amount of residue and location, I am reluctant to call that head gasket failure on just that without some additional data points. Is its consistency soft/mushy or crystalline? Photo seems to show soft/mushy. Given its a crossflow, I would more expect to see it first under the radiator cap being the high point of the cooling system. Breezy lists a good number things to check. I would add a couple of extra: 1) any sheen on the surface in the coolant overflow reservoir? 2) whats your temp gauge doing when running? Understatement of the day...I feel it.
  22. I am working hard to charge the battery It’s nice sitting out here in the sun while it charges.
