Good spot! I was puzzled why it was so short.
2. Calling AstroBob to the forum - I think this was the Stalker you and I chatted about? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2018-stalker-xl/ Shane - you need to post your track videos on the Bringatrailer ad. Actually dont worry as I did it for you. I picked the one with the spin at the end :seeya:

It looks like the scuttle edge trim - no where near enough of it mind you. Technically it is an SVA bit but it is good for finishing off the dash area and prevent paint chips on the edge facing the driver. I installed it on my US Caterhams for that reason alone although I forgot to on the UK 420R. https://caterhamparts.co.uk/scuttle-panels/3642-edge-trim-rubber-black.html?search_query=scuttle&results=19 Photo of the edge trim installed Edge trim on my 2010 silver CSR My 420R dash without the edge trim installed
4. Come on John. Classes? You know I am smarter than the average 300 pound bear. I easily avoided that. However, my little evil HR minions I inherited are slowly and insidiously turning my mind to the dark side. I am now being sensitive to the feelings of deviant alternative sexual persuasions - I have never been polite to attorneys before! And I thought being an actuary corrupted me. I no longer call chicks chicks. Alas, I am turning into an HR flunkey. So yes I edited my post to exclude 4 letter words, as I was sensitive to hurting the feelings of Spiffy or whatever his profile pronounces to. He could be an emotionally sensitive teetotal vegan in Texas driving a Prius. So all kidding aside .... Life is too short to not drive good cars. We are men. We know. We get it. Our signatures below our posts show our enthusiasm for cars. So do it before your better half says "Honey...do you like the white or cream cabinets for my new kitchen? Or would you prefer wood?"

Its fair to say that Caterham kits are not quite like Ikea product assembly. I think you need some build inspiration right now. When you are finished, Bruce will give you some coaching and you will have your 420R performing like this 420 is. Keep the good work coming! :seeya:
6. Nice try but no! A car is perfect when you own it and have made it yours. Its time for you to join my fellow forum members above. Modify the seats - thats part of making it yours. These cars are 'bitsas' - especially Stalkers - which have adopted half the parts catalog from Napa by taking a bit of this and a bit of that. They can be customized any which way. Owners have used all varieties of seats. So now its' time to think big for you. As your literal body double (no joking), I feel more than qualified to bring my vast and considerable bulk...err...experience and knowledge to this problem. The Stalker usually uses the Kirkey seats. These have sides which will munch up about 1-1.5 inches in lateral width from the seat cavity. That makes all the difference. Never been a fan of those seats personally - made out of the same aloominum foil I have in my kitchen. I think the Stalker seat cavity is around 17 inches wide. The Kirkeys slim that down to around 15.5 inches - thats designed for those with anorexia. Not designed for a real man who appreciates a good chicken sandwich and a pint or five of good beer. You have two broad options to get yourself in the drivers seat: Option 1 Use the Caterham or Westfield style of seat. These have no sides instantly getting you back to the full width of the available space. 17 inches wide is the standard seat width in most airlines zoo class section. I can make that and I bet you can too - no lube needed. Those seats look like this: Caterham Westfield These are comfortable and work very well. The sides of the seat space will stop you from sliding around. Option 2 If you are thinking of doing a lot of track work and want something that anchors you a little more firmly then I would suggest the resin bead seat option. I am in the middle of making one right now - refer here - scroll past the Tillet http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?12522-Winter-plans&p=112903#post112903 I am mid way through making one. You trim the foam back neatly, get some professional upholstery and it looks like below. There are also urethane versions of the kit plus you can get a pro to do one properly instead of a hacker like me. https://www.butlerbuilt.net/e-z-sert-pour-in-place-urethane-insert-kits Ok so you don't like options 1 or 2. So I have an Option 3. A Caterham SV chassis has a seat cavity width of 18inches+. I fit it comfortably. So much so I can even make a Tillet carbon seat (with a side!) fit plus get myself in there comfortably. In my old roadsport, fitted with the Caterham leather seat pictured above, back in 2008 I managed to squeeze 6'8" 320lb Karl in there with leg room to spare. I have even managed to fit a 350lb friend in there to take him out on track - put a dent in the performance admittedly. You would fit fine and there are a few for sale in the price range you are looking at. So there you go - your friends on this forum are determined to get you in a car that suits you better than your hairdresser's Miata. This is the best looking Stalker I have seen and it deserves a good new owner. :seeya: Cheers mike PS - have a bourbon and buy it before I have a weak moment and buy it!
7. Its that damn Outback steakhouse you keep hitting up in Secaucus every time you fly into Teteboro!
8. Is that why your Porsche 944 project is lying neglected in your garage? :bs:
9. Nice report. Congratulations, welcome to the club! Can I buy you a beer? There are sevens that will take you happily so don't despair.

11. Would not have affected you - you have a canoe? No motor right now admittedly but if you paddle hard.... :jester:
12. Be brave, go for it, try to fit the wheels then discover if you need to buy new stays. :seeya: Being serious for a moment - the diameter of 13s and 15s once rubber is on them was not that different. So maybe work out 15 inch wheel you are going to use - assume you get a spacer like Skip's idea. Spec it with rubber virtually (i.e. dont buy it just yet). Calculate the diameter. Compare that measurement to the diameter of the 13 inch wheel with rubber you have currently and you will know if it works since you know the clearance between your current 13 inch wheel/rubber and the stay and you know the diameter/width differential. Thats how I worked out I could flip from CR500 to Avon ZZR and ZZS on my CSR. Its probably 0.25-0.5 of an inch (or less) greater diameter and no wider as the rubber will taper towards the tread in that extra diameter.
13. I had saved it for Sunday but by all means spread the good news. Its Valentines Day so some wife/GF/FWB may buy it for their better half.
14. Why is this in the general sevens discussion section you are wondering? No, its not a reminder of Valentines Day in the usual sense for men who forget. No I am not the warm loving type like the rest of you so I am not going to give you kisses, hugs, etc or that type of manly contact you enjoy (thank goodness for that). Instead its a reminder that you have a second woman in your life - your cars. Back in 2011 this forum had a feisty forum member called "BessieTheSeven". She was the Club President's Lotus 7 S2 that somehow learned to type. Sadly she was banned after instigating a bimbo eruption from a challenging forum member (she was the instigator not the bimbo). But before she was banned from the forum, she left us a reminder of how you should remember your cars for Valentines Day. Its quoted below. The original thread and entertaining responses are here. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?6102-Bessie-The-Seven%92s-Valentines-Day-Tips-for-Romancing-Your-Se7en So remember guys - buy something special for your cars on Valentines Day - I know she...err...you will enjoy it.
15. I'm hot too but I don't warp flywheels. Been known to destroy some seals in my time though... Is the flywheel alooooooooominum?
16. Okaaaaay.......can someone please explain to me how a throwout bearing can toast a flywheel and the gearbox input shaft seal? On a big hp V8 yes I get it but on a Caterham? Thats a new one for me.
17. Very similar conceptually to a Ginetta. Unfortunately, those are also expensive. Very small market for selling these globally, made infinitely more complex by each country having their own vehicle safety and emission standards. Interestingly, if you look at the photos on the website of the roadster without the roof, it is VERY reminiscent of the old Caterham 21. That was built off the seven chassis. Mind you the detailing on the Janarelly is much more polished/higher quality. https://www.jannarelly.com/
18. Next track days at Spa-Francorchamps is March 23/24. Who is coming this year? I can probably arrange a Caterham even at this late stage.
19. I think it is time we all disperse to let this thread get back on track... :jester:
20. Very sorry to hear this. I did not know you kept in touch with Wemtd (Paul) on this forum? :leaving:
21. I think I will leave that joke hanging in the air for someone to pick up on...
22. Vlad - why 15 inch for track? Convention is usually towards 13s unless you have a CSR which makes it difficult for anything but 15s. Are you trying for a specific rubber brand?

24. I suspect the reason for that is your car was corner weighted for 2 people in it and you track with just one on board.
25. My apologies Anker - I was thinking of a few others on this forum who had issues getting in and out of his Caterham plus some others who have sold well before your age. Not all are as fit, flexible, hale and hearty as you at your age. All credit to you for keeping yourself in good shape to continue pursuing this hobby.
