Its a T-9 gearbox for the record. If its not the snap clip Bruce refers to, it could be your angle drive has broken. Refer here for some back ground and parts suppliers https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/type-9-gearbox-speedo-angle-drive Burton has a bunch of the replacement parts when you work out what exactly has broken. They also include the snap clip that Bruce refers to. https://www.burtonpower.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=type+9+speedo

SDKLLKANSY0021854 SDK = Caterham L = LHD L = Long cockpit K = kit built A = Alternative (i.e. not a race or special chassis) NS = engine not supplied Y = 2000 year 0021854 = chassis number All as I would expect for that car -
Welcome Simon! Its good to have another track enthusiast around this forum. Loved the Barber video. YEs the SV tank is bigger than the S3 12 vs 9 gallons For fuel cell, the standard Caterham solution for all cars is an ATL type, done as a custom order. No difference in between S3 or SV as I understand it. That makes sense as you dont want to weigh down your car for a race. The part reference is here https://caterhamparts.co.uk/tanks/3952-fuel-bag-tank-55ltr-rhd.html?search_query=fuel+cell&results=148 Not cheap as you just discovered from the link and I think the FIA compliant version has an expiry date built into it. At least my FIA ATL tank in the Mustang has a dated life before refresh/replacement. I am aware of a few owners that went to ATL directly to order their tanks. Yellowss7 has one in his orange SV car that he could take photos for you (sorry Tom for volunteering!). Cheers mike

Sorry Jay - thats no longer correct. Its 5/6 point only now in open cars at NJMP. No 4 points unless closed roof. The formerly allowed DOT 3 point belt usage in a Caterham was taken away 2 years back after I had a hissy fit with NJMP inspectors around 4 point Caterham belts without an expiry date (they changed the policy without notifying people). They would not let me run the 4 pointers so I held them to a strict legal read of their belts policy and went out using the DOT 3 pointer belts in my old maroon Caterham. Won the day but lost the war. Yet they let 50 year old Porsche 911 DOT belts out on track without an issue.... The screwed up logic is impressive. The NJ rules have tightened up in recent years as the State Trooper who oversees the NJMP track has changed and the new individual applies a strict constructionist legal interpretation. I don't mind strict safety rules but I do object to inconsistent interpretations applied willy nilly as you cannot prepare effectively in advance without some consistent policy being worked out with the circuit in advance.

Sadly no. A driving instructor described it as the metal equivalent of a cardboard tube in a chat earlier this year. So clearly no improvement over 1997. Also interesting to note, that the original options included an FIA bar. Looking at a 2019 420R order form with option list today it is: - standard - "track day roll bar" - roll cage The FIA option no longer considers a roll bar adequate. You have to be in roll cage territory to get any FIA label.

FS: New 2019 Caterham 310 S kit, SV, Ballistic Orange
Croc replied to BruceBe's topic in Cars For Sale
Thats a really good price compared with say 4-5 years back when the currency would have had it a third higher. People are forgetting that Brexit was effectively a 30% off sale for Caterhams to be sold in the US. However, Mike would not be happy with a 310 - he deserves more power - at least 50hp+ more. With his experience he would be bored unless at a 420R or above. -
Let’s be honest on this forum. Men are never wrong. The results of their failures are usually pretty spectacular though! :-p

Doubt it. He was surprised when I talked about using his dyno to have Steve at SBD do a future Caterham retune. Clearly never done it before. So at least I have a local Caterham tune person myself on the locked ECU. Or I can just use the secret password I suppose... Yes thats it. If you buy an ECU from Caterham or even a Caterham one from SBD, it will be locked with a password. But you can just buy an unlocked MBE from SBD and tune it yourself via the easimap software and the password they give you. If you have it done by SBD then keep in mind he does it during UK business hours. California is quite a bit slower than the UK/East Coast/Majority of the World... :jester: Not many dyno tuners are open at 6am Pacific. For harness, I am not sure there is a ready made one other than Caterham. They sell it in in 3 chunks - chassis harness, switch harness, engine harness. Not cheap - probably GBP1000 that way? Simon at Meteor Motorsports in the UK has a connection for a custom harness but that has a pretty lengthy lead time. I am aware of these guys below. No idea if they are any good. They have a generic kit car wiring harness - probably exactly what you need. If you go with an Emerald ECU and a Duratec then they sell their own engine harness. https://www.autosparks.co.uk/ Would you stop! You are like the uncle that turns up at Thanksgiving, gets drunk, farts, gropes Aunt Mabel and generally make a nuisance of himself. No. I went back searching this forum. A long time past, there were a bunch of issues with Emeralds on Dunnell engines where the tune would be locked down. Another factor was likely TMW and Birkin. Having re-read the problems the issue was not so much the Emerald as it was Dunnell locking owners out of their ability to reset the tune, i.e. identical to Caterham with MBE. Its the problem knowing so much, you forget the important bits! :svengo:
-
For a long time there, the Emerald was considered a "hard to tune" in the US as not many people were permitted to by the company. Has this changed meaningfully? Lots of people use it - very popular usage on our cars. I have not had much exposure otherwise. I have an older Omex ECU on the Cossie and works fine. Needs a retune but the dyno guys 100 yards from my garage have a AWD roller set up and know Omex. Wont help you as they are wrong side of the country from you. Not sure about the distribution of US based dyno knowledge otherwise. For MBE, the approach for locked Caterham systems is to rent Steve at SBD in the UK and do it remotely. He takes control of the dyno and remotely tunes it on a dyno here. Quite a few have done it that way to great success. I suspect Beachman Racing also has a west coast solution for this re locked MBE ECU. For unlocked MBE ECUs you can use any shop with a decent dyno guy who downloads the easimap software from the internet. I know a few who have done this without problem. One key question - what are you doing for wiring harness? Custom or off the shelf?

Sadly no...you forgot a small but critical factor. The world is round. There is a 12 hour time difference. And so at 7am on a Sunday morning (EST) for this in the US Eastern states, it will be 7pm at the Sanchaya where yours truly will be ensconced on the terrace, sun going down, overlooking the mostly turquoise South China Sea, in a wicker chair, admiring some piece of crumpet emerging from the pool, on his fourth gin and tonic, maybe some nuts at hand, a drinks wallah at my side, while i clearly think “@&$k it” at the mere thought of pulling my computer out to log on and list out all those ads. And so I will turn to the drinks wallah and say, “Can I please get another G&T, nice and dry, with extra lemon?” with a big smile on my face. I know myself too well! -

Its a lot more complex than you think Bob. Its a 10 day round the world. So its... 1) Tokyo - Aman Tokyo https://www.aman.com/resorts/aman-tokyo 2) Singapore - Fullerton Bay Hotel https://www.fullertonhotels.com/fullerton-bay-hotel-singapore/offers/room-offers 3) Bintan - The Sanchaya (just the Saturday and Sunday) https://www.thesanchaya.com/ 4) London - the usual apartment Then back home. So I have to plan for suit and tie and cold weather plus warm tropical weather, all while only taking a carry on rollaboard and briefcase. -

airport baggage tug? -
Welcome to the fun house! If you like bikes then a seven is a natural extension. Will be interested to hear your views of NY Safety Track as I have considered driving there given how close it is for me. Seems ok as a car track if you look at videos of good drivers going fast. Ironically, I am not a fan of the lack of safety on the track - a lot of natural forest with no fence between the driver who ran out of talent and a tree. Since you are closer than most, you get an invite to the annual sevens HPDE at NJMP. 2020 details here: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?12584-Save-the-Date-2020-Annual-Sevens-HPDE-Event-at-NJMP-October-8-10-2020 Photos from 2019 event start here: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?12285-Sevens-Event-NJMP-Drivers-Club-June-28-30-2019-Final-Event-Details/page11 cheers mike

Congratulations on your purchase! I think this is the turbo Duratec from FL? You are definitely diving in at the deep end for your first purchase.

Yes, you can charter the Vodka Express Antonov heavy lift and then it does the parabolic flight path until the stomachs have emptied, they have cleaned up the plane and then they can start actually filming. Probably better service than my experience on Aeroflot. No idea of that price but.... If you wish to replicate it with just you and a few friends and no car or pitstops then you can hire the Vomit Comet/Weightless Wonder 727 out of Miami/Orlando for $170,000. 15 weightless periods of 25-30s each. So a little over 6 minutes being weightless, yodeling many technicolor yawns, and generally bouncing off walls, friends, ceiling, crew, floor, etc. They issue special waterproof jumpsuits for a reason. It uses the same flight ops place our corporate jets use in FL. I have seen many happy excited people hop on the plane. Once I even saw them deplane. Still many excited people but also some who were a little green and liberally covered in some evil looking substance with chunks. The good news is the jumpsuits contain/absorb the contents that issue from the other end of the body in a weightless environment... :ack: Or the cheaper option is to fly with xcarguy in his private jet and he does that as part of his normal smooth flight operations. I hear his landings are particularly special! :jester: Cost - $5-10M area. I suspect at the higher end of that range! No thanks - not for me. I value my dignity.

Duratecs pump out a lot of heat. Is there a body melting temperature that you have to worry about? Never thought of that until reading your post?

Panamericano is so right. Actually I got Roger himself last call. Both Roger and his son are great guys and well worth talking to. They are hugely knowledgeable about their product and know Caterhams along with most other racing cars very well. They supply all my tires for all my cars (they like me for some reason...). I have never found them to be out of stock, ever! Sadly for those emotionally stunted millennials, who lap slower than their fiancé around the NJMP Thunderbolt Circuit, you cannot order by the interwebby thingy. But real people are so interesting to speak with!

Call Roger Kraus Tires in San Francisco metro area. They always have them in stock. They ship ground to the east coast. I just received a new set of Avon ZZS, 3 days after I ordered.
