  1. That looks like it took a LOT of packaging to make it all work. I wondered why this project was taking so long. Now I can see where you were spending time. Wider rear tires probably needed IMHO. Or will you keep a square set up?
  2. Sorry MCRUSA for the delay - Just saw your response. I will dig out the AIM this weekend at the garage and see what it says on the unit for selection and take a photo of the input plug you would need to connect with so you can compare to your output plug. Tom - I agree with your comments. For a specialist car like the Caterham where they are individually modified for performance, a locked down single ECU black box solution is absurd, especially when they don't support outside the UK.
  3. Getting back to the objective of this thread - just those sevens for sale on Fleabay and Craigslist, here are those my suave little searchbot found this week: New Construction Scaffolding (Exocet) https://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Replica-Kit-Makes-Exocet-/272888526878?hash=item3f896c781e:g:0QYAAOSwsDxZ44QC&vxp=mtr Seller description "Adult Go Kart" https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-Other-Makes-CUSTOM-/272888974038?hash=item3f89734ad6:g:8WQAAOSw~g1Z499S&vxp=mtr Repeats Caterham https://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-Caterham-G80-Super-7-/232522908028?hash=item362372017c:g:lHcAAOSwWRZZ0Oxt&vxp=mtr and here https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/caterham/super-7/1994795.html Westfield Pre-Lit https://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Lotus-Super-Seven-Westfield-SE-/112586775272?hash=item1a36b1dae8:g:tjwAAOSwdPBZ0py5&vxp=mtr Replica https://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Lotus-Super-Seven-R27-/263268809374?hash=item3d4c0b3a9e:g:p4UAAOSwSFBZ51gt&vxp=mtr Lotus 7 S4 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Lotus-Super-Seven-/282695069883?hash=item41d1f070bb:g:gqYAAOSwIJFZ4yox&vxp=mtr Lotus 7 S2 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Lotus-Seven-S2-/272751411968?hash=item3f81404300:g:O84AAOSwnK9ZXoMt&vxp=mtr and here https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/7/1972000.html Replica https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/d/lotus-super-seven-super-7/6311076907.html Stalker https://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/d/lotus-seven-brunton-stalker/6336445348.html Replica https://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/d/lotus-super-7-replica-powered/6343578170.html Birkin https://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/d/2005-birkin-s3-not-lotus-7/6330271821.html Caterham SV https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/cto/d/2013-caterham-roadsport-120-sv/6341011865.html Westfield Pre-lit https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/d/westfield-pre-lit-lotus-7/6343983881.html Did you know there are 3 Westfield Pre-Lits for sale right now! 4. Nothing to do with sevens. This video was just really well done and it is a nice video to watch over the morning coffee as you begin the day.
  5. That I can oblige with - browse these: https://www.youtube.com/user/CrocCSR/videos
  6. Beautifully presented. Great color choice for the car - it goes so well with the shape of the body.
  7. Depending on what VIN you have you may be able to decode it via this link https://www.lotus7.club/guides/frequently-asked-questions/chassis-numbers-what-do-they-mean#h9 The Caterham records are not particularly well organized but sometimes you can get copies of original invoices and other car spec stuff out of them The Lotus 7 Club has a historian who has been valuable for individual car histories because they know where to locate or have copies of build records. I dont think Caterham sell blank chassis plates but you can get them from here: http://www.vin-plate.co.uk/iva_kit_car_plates.html Contact details for Caterham in case you still want them. Phone them as they usually do not respond to emails timely. [h=4]CATERHAM[/h]Caterham House Fleming Way, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 9NQ +44 (0) 1293 312300
  8. Thank you for the feedback. From my perspective when you just make these posts and you don't see much response you do wonder whether the post is serving any purpose. Reality checks are needed from time to time. Mind you it does keep me away from car hunting my bucket list of non-seven cars that I am dreaming of buying.....that could be far more expensive than time....
  9. Dumb question - but does anyone actually use this list to buy? Or is it just the coffee club for mothers to kill time on a Sunday morning? 10. I agree wholeheartedly with Tom - I have never liked Caterham's practice of locked ECUs in the US market. I can understand in the UK where you have a critical mass of service infrastructure to help customers manage without tinkering themselves and blowing up an engine, but that just does not work in the USA where my closest reputable dealer is 3000 miles away either in the pacific north west or at Caterham UK themselves. Have you chatted with Bruce Beachman to see if he has come across the ECU before? Looking at the website for the closest visual match unit http://www.efitechnology.it/main_eng.html ...shows the specs for the ECU. Its got CAN output and configuration tools online for download so it must be accessible in its standard guise. However, the critical quote on that page is that it can be "fully encrypted." which is just the thing that Caterham would usually do. The question you are needing to ask EFI Tech is whether your unit is fully encrypted at the request of the manufacturer? I bet yes.... If you dont need to change/alter/remap the ECU right now and just want to see what is happening then a long shot logging option might be the AIM Solo. If you refer post #3 of this thread you can see how I monitor my engine real time while driving (I also can use the SBD kit in the garage if needed). http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?11000-GPS-Lap-Timer-system&highlight=AIM+solo My post is on the MBE ECU (which is still locked by Caterham) but if you can find out which car manufacturers use the EFI Technology Euro 8 as original equipment in which specific cars, then the AIM Solo may be configurable for your Caterham. For example, I set the AIM Solo to operate in a Noble and then it will read my Caterham ECU. I suggest you find out from EFI Technology then ping me on here and I will check the vehicle configuration on an AIM Solo to see if it is possible before you buy one. You will still need to sort out a connection solution as I use a J1962 plug (looks like OBDII but is not) but your ECU seems to have a different output plug? Are you anywhere around me in the NE/MidAtlantic regions? Ultimately in the longer run you will probably need a new ECU so it may be easier to changeover now.
  11. Hi Bob, You raise a bunch of questions - dealing with each in turn: This distribution system for Caterham is not perfect. It gets better are you get closer to the source. The old Caterham USA dealer with Jon Nelson worked well. He had decent stock and you could reach him. It went through a hiatus when Caterham UK decided that the dealership needed to go to another place in California which ended up a complete and total fail. No parts stock assuming they would bother to even pick up the phone. Some of my phone calls with them were absolutely comical - they cared nothing for the brand in the USA other than churning out short term sales targets. Then Caterham UK loosened the restrictions allowing Bruce Beachman to enter the picture and some of the old long time dealers - BritAuto in TX and George Alderman in DE, to re-enter and rebuild a good and positive profile of Caterham USA support. So to be completely fair the past history of Caterham support in the USA has been decidedly choppy but I think it is in a much better spot today. It was while that CA dealer lot were messing up after sales support and I could not get a phone call back from them, that I started ordering direct from Caterham UK. Gave them a call direct first thing in the morning and an order would be on its way to arrive in 1-2 weeks. A group of us locally pool orders to save shipping. Caterham UK were aware of why - they said it was very common to have US owners call direct. I also ordered direct from places in the UK like Raceline, Meteor Motorsports or Car Builder Solutions or even Bookatrack (they are Caterham dealers in the Midlands in the UK). Never had supply issues as all orders would arrive within 2 weeks. The only supply issue I had delays on was getting brake bits out of the manufacturer, AP Racing and this was not Caterham's fault. Shock absorbers got held up in customs for 4 weeks as I educated the US customs folks that a shock absorber is a complete unit and not a collection of individual parts requiring inventory and separate duty on each component. The Caterham supply chain today is just as quick as Brunton Auto in my view albeit not as cheap. Very reliable for me. My philosophy is have the cars well maintained at all times. I understand upfront that I am not driving a Toyota Camry but a high performance vehicle that needs a little greater attention. I have defined annual refresh lists that kick off every December. I have my "routine" before I drive on the road or on the track. I am mechanically sympathetic and listen to the car "talking" to me when driving. If a mechanic does the work then I check his work to give me piece of mind. I anticipate the wear cycle on my cars and sometimes anticipate the fail by replacing. A new car to me will go through a fettling process of maintenance work to where I feel confident in its reliability. I have had my share of breakages - hose splits, jubilee clip fails, flat tires, clutch, etc. but these are wear and tear items. Only once have I been towed home from when I was out touring and that was from a burst radiator host - one of those things. I have quite happily done couple hundred mile drives without needing to prep. Generally pretty easy. I know where to go to source parts. The engine parts for my Caterhams are Fords - parts available here in the US. You learn to find out what Caterham sourced its parts from. For example, wheel bearings on the CSR rear are Fox body Mustang parts for specific years with hubs being VW Passat of 1990s vintage. A T-9 box was sold on US cars. I have even found gear lever plastic locater clips for the Caterham 6 speed box in the US. Re-paneling can be done here in the US if you know where to go. Tires come from Roger Krause on the west coast. I have seen George Alderman straighten bent chassis. The only tricky part thing is the locked ECU on Duratecs. Simple solution is to replace it with another unlocked ECU or different brand or do an internet tune with a UK specialists at SBD. The Stalker may have more US parts available which makes things quicker and cheaper but the Caterham is more plug and play style so I dont need the level of craftsmanship and skill that building a Stalker requires. Swings and roundabouts. Yes and no. The Zetec SV is cheaper than the CSR as there are off the shelf solutions available here for most engine and transmission parts. The CSR has its share of unique parts (custom driveshafts for example) reflecting the bespoke independent rear end suspension but its not that many. My CSR brakes have been modified to use Harley Davidson fittings to avoid needing to use Caterham brake fittings. So not everything is in the UK. That said the Stalker parts have to be cheaper and are of a known parentage which makes them easier to source. But there are Stalker elements which are owner constructed and not off the shelf like they are at Caterham so the cost is in time/skill not parts cost. Of course if you try and fly a Stalker like Superman and fail by crash landing a chassis then sending a chassis to FL is soooo much easier than sending it to Arch or to Caterham (Caged) for re-jigging and or repair although if it was relatively minor then the work could be done by the better USA dealers. On the surface it looks like the Stalker would be easier to support but in practice the Caterham does just fine. Knowing where to go for the items/repair is the trick and even that is greatly assisted through this forum and Blatchat in the UK. In the end it is all swings and roundabouts. Different people weight the same facts and reach different conclusions because those conclusions suit their individual circumstances better. Personally the little extra effort required reflects that we have exotic cars and not Camrys.

  17. LOL - no Miata. Having two sevens is a little greedy. Having one seven will allow me to (hopefully) better focus on finishing off my 3 active restoration jobs - the Beemer, the Blue Holden and the cigarette packet. You are right on the registration - if that Caterham cannot be easily registered in any state then I don't think any can.
  18. The stone protectors on the rear wings have seen their share of stones but it is not bad for the age/mileage of the car. How does it drive? Really well. I use the 16” wheels when driving on the road to give sufficient ground clearance given the pathetic state of NJ/PA/NY roads. It rides very well – better than all of my cars other than the Caterham CSR. The car was corner weighted for a driver of my (significant) weight. Its easy enough to re-weight. The car has been taken on the track. I have a logbook, which will come with the documentation package. It handles very well and is very enjoyable to drive. It can lap faster than Xcarguy’s V8 Stalker in the rain. It has embarrassed its share of bigger hp cars. A track video should give you an idea of its performance While it is a wet sump engine, I have been careful to ensure the oil levels are precisely correct before going on track and not had any fluctuations in oil pressure despite having the 15 degree long sustained banking on the last corner of the Lightning Circuit at NJMP. The same corner can produce trace oil smoke at wide-open throttle coming out of the banking but that’s because there is a residual oil at the top end that makes it way into the inlet and ultimately combustion process. Backing off fractionally solves that (you can hear me do that in the video). If you wanted to track this car more regularly then I would suggest installing a dry sump or Accusump and potentially shifting away from the current plenum intake (which would give you more hp too). The car comes with a brand new Raceline baffled oil sump (and installation kit) which has never been fitted. There is also a new Raceline cam cover in black crackle finish - again uninstalled - with the gasket. The original engine camshaft will come with the car should you wish to revert back to stock. The "warm" camshaft fitted by Caterham USA upon original build in 2013 works best once it is warmed up as it can be lumpy and require additional revs when cold immediately after start up. This is normal from my owning/observing other sister cars with the same engine spec. At any rate T-9 gearboxes work best when allowed to warm a little. Will I fit? It’s a Caterham SV – it’s as big and roomy as a seven comes. I am very confident you will fit. I am 5’11; size 11 feet, with a substantial bulk reflecting I have more chins than a Chinese phone book. I have squeezed an anonymous forum member (lets call him Karl) into my previous yellow sister Caterham SV who was 6’7, size 13 feet and 320lbs. I have jammed a 350lb chap into my CSR for a track run as a passenger. With a quart of oil, some slim line moccasins or race boots I am confident I will get you fitted in the car and driving. Getting out may be the issue though…. Price I am asking $30,000 firm/no haggles. I don’t need to sell it for financial reasons and could quite happily keep it for drives. However, I don’t drive it enough given my various other cars, restoration projects and other substantial time commitments on me so the fair thing to do is help it find a new caring home. Car is located in Millville, NJ in a very nice climate controlled garage. I travel frequently so some level of advance warning is needed to inspect the car or for me to take additional photos. This may be a lost effort but to those people who wish to make silly low-ball offers – please don’t. To everyone else, I look forward to your serious inquiries. Cheers Mike SOLD
  19. Body Condition It looks better than me but it is a 14-year-old seven – it has some stone chips. The worst is on the passenger side front wing – this was here when I got it. Both sides of the bonnet have some light scratching from where the previous owner let the windscreen fall over. So light that I could not get it to appear on my iPhone! There is the usual scratching underneath the bonnet scuttle lip but this is not visible with the bonnet on.
  20. History Referring to the Caterham VIN this car was a 2001 SV chassis that was first registered by Jon Nelson of Caterham USA in June 2003. It was used as athe SV demonstrator and media car in late 2003. The road tests are available to read online. Originals of the articles come with the car documentation package. Car & Driver February 2004 http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/caterham-super-seven-roadsport-sv-specialty-file Automobile February 2004 http://www.automobilemag.com/news/caterham-7-2/ Autoweek http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/2003-caterham-super-seven-roadsport-sv-fundamentally-fun-caterham-makes-super-seven It also appears in the LOG 36 Princeton preview video here: Reconstructing the ownership history, I am the 4th owner. The chain appears as: June 2003 - Registered in CO by Caterham USA as new. January 2004 - Purchased by gentleman in VA or West VA at 2508 miles June 2013 - Purchased by a gentleman in GA at unknown mileage. April 2014 – Purchased by me at 9000 miles The car has a clean title in NJ as a 1967 Lotus 7. It uses the CO assigned VIN and description as it was originally titled and registered back in 2003. A package of documentation from previous owners, service history, etc. will come with the car. This includes the assembly manual plus the Zetec installation supplement manual.
  21. New Penske adjustable shocks have been installed. These were custom valved by Meteor Motorsport to be suitable for the lightweight of a Caterham. Currently they are set up on the second last softest setting, as it is perfect for road touring. I also installed a battery cut off switch plus an Odyssey PC680 lightweight battery. Mechanically it is up to date with its servicing. The only small thing is a quarter sized drop of oil from the bell housing will sometimes appear on the floor overnight after a run. Mileage is approximately 11000 as I continue to use the Caterham prior to sale.
  22. Belts were replaced at the beginning of this year with 4-point Caterham belts. The crotch belts come with the car but are uninstalled. Expiry date on these belts is 2021. For around town the three point belts are installed. Wheels One set of 6”x16” Caterham ‘Wagon Wheels’. These are the original wheels that the car came with. Four are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tires with approximately half to 1/3rd life left. Spare is fitted with a new tire. One set of 6”x13” (front) and 8”x13” (rear) Caterham Diamond Cut Wheels in Black fitted with Avon ZZRs at approximately half-life. 6”x13” Spare is fitted with an Avon ZZR. Windscreen is standard Caterham frame but does not have the heating elements within it that usually come standard on new kits – so the glass must have been replaced at some point re-using the existing frame. During my ownership the clutch was replaced. Usual consumable service items such as fluids, plugs, hoses, wheel bearings, bushings, ball joint boot, etc. were replaced. The car comes with the Caterham jack kit - never used by the looks of it.
  23. SOLD 2003 Caterham SV Zetec I am selling my 2003 Caterham SV Zetec. This was the first SV chassis imported and built in the US and was used as a demonstrator car with the various car magazines of the day. I used the car primarily as my road touring car and occasionally on track. Key Specs Ford ZX3 2L Zetec. It was modified by Caterham USA with a slightly warmer camshaft. This took the original 130hp at the flywheel up to a supposed 160hp. While it has not been dyno’ed, from my seat of the pants driving it feels like about 140hp area. T-9 5 speed gearbox – regular gear ratios unmodified. Synchro feels perfect. De Dion rear end No limited slip differential Cloth seats Perspex (or polycarbonate) wind wings Side wings for weather protection with integrated mirrors Hood (no hood bag) Boot cover (no tonneau)
  24. Its easier to be cheap if you can mass produce enough quantity. What is more astounding is that the market is so big to sell that many. I bet you could do bigger volumes if you got a seven down to that price range with turn key feature, ease of title and registration and a high level of quality. Its not just price that is challenging but after sales service, high strung nature, and the absolute pain to title and register and comply with emissions.
