Me worried? Nah! We don't need Seb to make us look bad. I am pretty good at doing that to myself without his help!

Spanish is a far better language for saying what you truly feel! :cuss: That said, your workshop adventure reminded me of the last time I swapped an engine out and finished up only to turn around to see this clutch sitting there. I now pay people to not make my mistakes! So I guess I will see you on the road again in 2018?

The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
Croc replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
Hi Taber - If that is the condition then it will still be for sale a year from now at that price. A bit disappointing to hear. You would think that it would be cleaned up and at least the tire reinflated to give it a chance of selling. -

o/t Getting a car (not a 7) from Montreal to Boston
Croc replied to Blokko's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I agree with Ian! I would not do it if I was the seller. Also driving it across the border on someone else's tag - I suspect that would cause monumental red flags when they run the tags at the border as part of the checks. It was bad enough when I crossed in a rental car twice. In an ideal world you would take the import paperwork approvals to the state DMV and get a tag/registration, fly up there and throw it on the car and drive it home. Thats not going to happen under this scenario since the import approvals would not have the entry stamp yet? If they are complete then just get the MA tags and fly them up there for the drive back. However, MA will probably not tag the car until it is in the country because the paperwork is probably not yet complete? I would grab a trailer, drive up there, pick it up and with the bill of sale, proof of payment, etc, lob in at the US border crossing, show the car purchase paperwork, fill in the import forms, pay the 2.5% tax and then trundle it home on the trailer with the freshly stamped import paperwork (received at the border) ready to be titled/registered at the DMV in MA. Pre-approval prior to turning up at the border is not needed - you can do it on the spot. I know a few people who have done it this way and they have all said it was a smooth process at the border ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 hours to get everything done. It is a lot easier and cheaper than getting a commercial carrier to do it. -
Hi Lance - did that solve the rattle? Or is still there from the latest driving?
-
Mike - the original CSR260 with IRS had only 2 diff attachment points which is why it ripped out regularly. The modified CSR chassis IRS had 4 attachment points which fixed the problem. The standard S3 chassis with de dion was a much beefier design from the get go. That said your concern/question is still a very valid one to my mind.

Stop it Paul! I have been having naughty thoughts like that and I am trying to stop myself. Cold spoons are not working. Visions of 380hp naturally aspirated Duratec is doing a number on me. My upgrade budget needs to really be aimed at my other cars and they absorb substantial cash. The Marlboro car you saw at NJMP last July will be a mid 2017-2019 restoration/recommissioning and thats following the expensive CSL restoration (2015-2017) that I am only half way through (although it has now made it on track for the first time...). At least I have finished the garage upgrades! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%20garage/EC82403D-307F-4FF2-BC5F-AB8A20D5AE65_zpsub4gddo6.jpg

Mike - Doing this from memory: - complete spare sets of cooling hoses - fuel rubber hosing plus the raw metal tube that is used to run brakes and fuel through the center tunnel - brake discs and pads - front and rear hubs - clutch assembly (on back order) - brake circuit assembly - new radiator - a bunch of O rings and gaskets that are on 2-5 year replacement cycles - I think I got a steering rack assembly (I got a few sitting on the work bench so it gets confusing) - drive shafts - safety belts - replacing this year anyway. - fuel pump - a couple of gearbox things that tend to break - that little plastic whatsit that stops the gear level from going all floppy. - wheel studs and nuts - starter - alternator - battery master switch (these little devils have a tendency to fail when least wanted). - engine and gearbox mounts - radiator and exhaust bobbins - The CSR diff mount pieces that I use to stop it pretzeling itself with the torque Still working on the dry sump as it looks like the scavenge pump has a 5 yr refresh cycle for tear down and servicing and there are lots of bits inside there to replace. So I might just buy a whole new unit to swap in and then rebuild the old one at leisure. Either way that is the weak link on the engine internals.
-
Definitely go ITBs - they make such a lovely enhancement to the overall engine music experience! :bigear: I just bought a big bunch of parts from Caterham to take advantage of the English pounded with the dollar so strong. So I now have a good supply of spares to have handy should there be a problem. My winter refresh items are fairly conventional on both of my sevens - fluids, filters, nut and bolt check, new belts, etc. My sevens are perfect as they are - no upgrades needed. However, I have 4 other cars address with their items so it is a looooong work list and some are just ugly items (e.g. rebuild L34 V8, buy new M49/M30 engine, source/install a new T5G (Holden), source/install and BMW dogleg Getrag (E9), buy a new 9" heavy duty rear axle for the 65 Mustang to replace the Versailles one I banana'ed...sigh...)

2003 SVT motor Blowin' smoke in Hard left hand corner - Help
Croc replied to 951n914's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hi Scott - Hope you are doing well? A piece of additional data possibly relevant for others here - you have a rear exhaust exit from memory? So the oil was passing through the exhaust for oily residue on the rear of the car. I know if you modestly overfill a standard non-SVT zetec with oil it will blow smoke on one long right hand corner at NJMP (e.g. the banked bowl the ) under throttle similar to what you were experiencing. If the oil level is spot on at midpoint with my maroon car it does not blow smoke but it will if the oil is at the top of the dip stick marking range. So I suspect your oil level is a factor in this discussion. When that happens my oily residue is just aft of the side exhaust exit. For me the smoke/residue is a byproduct of oil in the combustion process and yours looked identical (no engine leaks, no oil pressure concerns). What I never did understand that day is why my maroon car (non-SVT zetec) was having right hand smoking moments and yours (SVT zetec) was having left hand smoking issues? So with that additional information I turn it back to the other members here to help group-think the problem Cheers mike -

2014 Caterham 270 at $37800 with 740miles. If you wanted a Caterham 160 I would buy this and stick the narrow wheels on it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Triumph-Other-/391648306508?forcerrptr=true&hash=item5b300ee54c:g:ECIAAOSwB09YSu1W&item=391648306508 2004 Ultralite at $28000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-Lotus-Super-Seven-WCM-Ultralite-S2K-Replica-/152351307088?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2378d87550:g:PdsAAOSwHMJYGe5w&item=152351307088 The most interesting thing about this ad is that the Ultralite comes with a hood and sidescreens. I had never seen it before and post a a photo of what an Ultralite looks like with a roof on. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12021&stc=1 I think it looks quite good given the aesthetic difficulties of adding a roof to a seven. Stalker M-Spec XL Classic project at $37995 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-Replica-Kit-Makes-Brunton-Stalker-XL-M-Spec-Classic-2014-2016-XL-Classic-/232175597989?forcerrptr=true&hash=item360ebe79a5:g:2XAAAOSwImRYQEb9&item=232175597989 Another Stalker at $34130 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-Other-Makes-SUPERSTALKER-SuperStalker-/332054075234?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4d4ff71762:g:OEUAAOSw-0xYRe0X&item=332054075234 1972 Lotus 7 S4 at $22995 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Lotus-Super-Seven-/272482017709?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3f7131a1ad:g:fCkAAOSwA3dYTSDc&item=272482017709 Ok this next one is an interesting one. Its a Lola replica built by Rotus. If you look at the various photos you can see Rotus based it on their regular seven chassis - just lengthened it. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12022&stc=1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Replica-Kit-Makes-/162313876355?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25caa93383:g:obYAAOSwB09YSf2q&item=162313876355 Bidding is at $9200 with 1 day to go. CMC Stage 2 Roller asking $6k http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12023&stc=1 http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/5922413327.html Plenty of ads still on Hemmings to look at. -
Can he make it as far as one lap without going off? :jester:
-
Thats a really tough question given I have seen asking prices range from high teen dollars for basket cases to low end $40s for freshly restored ones with high end restorers (Fantasy Junction/Wayne Carini/etc). The data for you to work out comparables is on this site - just look at the weekly posts of sevens for sale on Ebay/Craigslist and work backwards. As you study the asking prices for different specs/years/versions and compare to yours the value range will narrow and an appropriate price becomes obvious.

This is a Save The Date email so you can put placeholders in your calendars. For 2017, we will again be holding the event in the first weekend in July, generously hosted by NJMP Drivers Club. A summary follows below and a more detailed organization outline will follow in May closer to the date. Friday June 30 - Arrive in the afternoon and set up. We anticipate having a casual outside BBQ pool party at the NJMP clubhouse. Saturday July 1 - HPDE with Drivers Club on the Lightning Circuit. Breakfast, lunch and all refreshments included for paid up drivers and visitors. Evening dinner reception with other Drivers Club members at the home of NJMP track founder and all around good guy, Don Fauerbach. Sunday July 2 - HPDE with Drivers Club on the Lightning Circuit. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments included. For those staying over we are planning a dinner at Andrea's in Millville. A very good BYO restaurant in downtown Millville serving an Italian manu. Very popular with the regular track guys at NJMP. Monday July 3 - Option for some karting competition before heading home or I could organize a test session with NJMP for a limited number of cars in open pit lane format. People's responses will determine what we do. We will be running the Lightning Circuit again as Thunderbolt is booked thanks to a longstanding hire arrangement. The Lightning Circuit is a fast little momentum circuit, well suited to our cars with a nice variety of corners and elevation changes and of course the bowl which is great fun to play with. This can be a frustrating track if you are out there with the bigger road cars like Corvettes, Mustangs or Porkers as they heavily brake in 2 areas of the track where a seven can sail through. However, we don't have to worry about that as having a sevens only run group means even the slowest CrossFlow is very quick through every corner and there are plenty of passing opportunities. Despite the HP disparity the past HPDE events flowed really well - so much so it really did not feel like there were many people out on track at all. All marques of sevens are welcomed to attend - Lotus 7, Caterham, Birkin, Locost, Brunton Stalker, S1, Westfield, Mallock, etc. We will again set up a private registration page on Motorsportreg.com for signing up and paying for the Saturday dinner, visitors, etc., but don't expect this until around May this year. NJMP does insist on vetting driver capabilities as this is an event they organize and are responsible for. They have a strong belief in safety which is to be commended. Drivers who have previously driven with this event will be evaluated based on their past performance. Drivers who are new to the event will be required to submit a driving resume for evaluation. This will be a sevens only HPDE run group session. To make it this way we have to compromise run group rules. It will be with passing only on straights with a point by. No passing in corners or braking zones. No passengers on track other than for Drivers Club or nationally accredited instructors. Usual safety gear rules apply - in date helmets, long pants, closed toe shoes, arm restraints, in date belts, head below roll bar level, car freshly serviced, etc. This is not a race - it is a HPDE event. Those wanting to come here and set lap records should find another event as the aim is to enjoy the dynamic abilities of our sevens in a safe environment. Full safety gear requirements will follow in a later update. Like last year we will have access to some instructors who are present as part of the day. Many of these instructors have driven and been passengers in sevens and know our cars well. They are very experienced and even if they do not accompany you out on track they will spend the time talking best lines on the track map in the pit building - definitely worth it for that. NJMP is located in Millville, in southern NJ, about an hour east of Philadelphia and 2.5 hours south of New York City. It is easily reached off I-95. There are a variety of accommodation options available. NJMP has pit suites (comfortable motel units on the NJMP property) or luxury villa accommodation over on the Thunderbolt circuit. Millville has a lot of hotel options - Fairfield Inn (most people think this is the best), Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Quality Inn, Hampton Inn, Ramada, etc. This is not just a driving event but also a social event. Last year we had quite a few spouses present and enjoying the atmosphere and the evenings. We would love to welcome them back. There are a number of options to explore off-track if watching cars is not exciting during the day. The beach is a short drive from Millville. Cape Elizabeth down the Jersey Shore is well worth a visit. Atlantic City is 45 minutes drive away. There are a number of local wineries in the area offering tastings. The NJMP Clubhouse has a tennis court and swimming pool with full change room facilities Costs are not yet finalized but will be similar to last year based on current estimates (say $200 per day for HPDE, $40pp for Saturday night dinner/drinks inclusive, $30pp for day visitors to cover insurance, food, refreshments and the possibility of accompanying an instructor on track in a seven subject to availability). Tom and I look forward to seeing regular visitors again and welcoming new visitors. Some photos from last year to get you in the mood! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2016%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-NJMPDC-070216-0003_10_zps8qmgupl5.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2016%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-NJMPDC-07022016-0002%202_zpsarhts2pb.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2016%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-NJMPDC-070216-0032_10_zpsw9j1ssxq.jpg

I just love how this forum helps enable men be assertive over their wives and buy their dream! Congratulations! I think you will be very happy. Just allow enough budget to buy a nice scarf to protect her hairdo and some regular time at the hairdressers. What type of lead time is on the kit delivery?

I often used spool diffs in non-seven track cars on certain circuits to improve traction. But it took a change in driving style to get the car to rotate since the car will be induced to push/understeer with a spool. Its great for traction out of a corner with a high hp car but seems at odds with the corner carving abilities allowing a seven to carry higher speeds through a corner with relatively low hp. For that reason an LSD seems to be the better way to me. Dan's suggestion of seeing if you can do a Toyota parts swap would be the easiest. If that is not an option then the common LSD replacement options for Caterhams are AP Suretrac and Quaife. Of these Quaife are the higher end option and I have seen these used in Birkins before.
