  1. I think these would look nice on your Caterham! http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11677&stc=1 just kidding! :jester: Have you looked at the Apollo diamond cut wheel that Caterham supply? http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/img/p/5231-5863-thickbox.jpg Its a little different to the standard designs we always see and it fits a Caterham off the shelf without looking like the usual silver straight spoke designs that are all the rage. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2016%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/FA64F6AB-F604-45D4-A805-36C3C3CF4ED1_zpsfc9ctyyt.jpg Otherwise I like the Mike Barnaby range that can be built to suit a Caterham without needing hub adapters. http://www.mb-racingwheels.com/wheel_centres.htm
  2. May be best to keep it quiet but nationally PCA banned Caterhams and seven-derivatives from running in their events a few years back after Karl redecorated his car around Lime Rock at a PCA event. I guess the OH PCA recently discovered that ban and its a matter of time before it filters all the way to the west coast. It may not be a bad thing to avoid PCA events as their track day accident record is not the best as heard from a few PCA people who would know. I am impressed by the performance for an SVT and with passenger. I guess it is twisty enough to change the balance of performance towards a Caterham. I would love to try that circuit one day.
  3. Sure! This thread was intended to be a rolling collection of the ads we find for sale around the internet so the more the merrier!
  4. Yep and thats Ron's phone number too. To add on that car: - it rolled down the old Cat USA "production line" in Denver immediately after mine. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/Colorado%20April%202011/DSC_5410_edited-1.jpg - I recall he was using well-regarded local lotus mechanic (Ralph at RS Motorsports) to do all his maintenance work. - I don't know why but its exhaust note is unique among Caterhams and is truly thrilling - the owner loves his speed  http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2011-08-10_09-12-07_429.jpg
  5. Yes I guessed that Ian. I am sure my mind is as devious as yours when it comes to car upgrades!
  6. Ian - the thought occurred to me 2 months back on a separate car combined with the S4. It could work as lets conservatively say the S4 now crossflowed sells for $16-17k as it needs a repaint (GM pearlescent white? Probably not the best Lotus color). That means just to break even the newly BDR'ed Caterham would need to be worth around $33-34k. Maybe a smidgen too high but achievable with patience and the right buyer. however, you then have to allow for sales tax to register, transport costs and some possible uncertainty around the BDR (discussion earlier in this thread). I would do it differently. Buy the S4, put in a cross flow, sell BDR separately. Sell the S4 at say $16-17k or maybe $20k after investing in a quality BRG respray and then the BDR could be sold standalone for say $10-12k Similar upside in dollars but less invested cash and with less risk to my mind.
  7. Thanks Bill. I thought it was the same despite the change/wrap of the front cycle wings. I now recognize the seller profile ID. With 6 days to run the $15700 is very strong for bidding this early on. I cannot see how this would be worth north of $25k - call it $22-23k at most.
  8. And the Caterham on BAT went for $25k and change which seems slightly low to fair since the past accident, no matter how well repaired, would always have a value impact. Lots of sevens around for buyers. Wish it was as easy for me to source a BMW M49/3 race engine. Dennis Brunton's ex-personal Storker. You know this would be well sorted. 9. Yet another clutch Michael? It must be your driving! Looks like another great event - pity its so far for me, even from Millville.
  10. Hi James - I like the look of that circuit. What engine package are you running in your Caterham? You were making short work of that group of cars. Hi Jim - Lets face it, its a cruise only culture in CA! Why track a car when you can polish it! :troll:
  11. There is what I think is a pre-lit for sale here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-7-Series-3-/162167705376?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25c1f2cf20:g:E0cAAOSwMtxXvdAT&item=162167705376 Not sure I believe the 1999 construction but that was likely just when IL assigned a state VIN on transfer. If the Westfield experts decide this is not a pre-lit then I will remove this post to avoid confusion with genuine pre-lits http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11639&stc=1 http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11640&stc=1 http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11641&stc=1 http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11642&stc=1
  12. Although there are at least 2 companies that insure race cars in races in the US now - I don't think it was insured given the vehicle and the likely race it was in. So lack of insurance would be my guess, a self-funded repair, and would explain a title that (I infer) is still clean instead of salvage. :iagree: I would guess the reserve is somewhere around $25k. The BAT auction format has fallen flat with me in the last 4-6 weeks. There have been a few instances of BAT not facilitating the auction properly, sellers bailing out, unanswered questions which sellers dodge and the outrage over what I will generously call the 'gray market' BMW from 2 weeks back. In their rush to monetize their website I think they are damaging their biggest asset - their credibility.
  13. I agree on value Kitcat but I do have some open questions on the BAT Caterham that have not yet been answered: 1) How is it titled (year/description) and is it clean? 2) Who did the front end repair and exactly what was done? (e.g. replace steering column, wishbones, etc) All the other noise around cycle wings out of place, shoe size, "eccenctric wheel arches", etc is irrelevant - you can reposition those yourself. You cannot fix a bad front end repair or salvage title as easily. Sort of surprised the BAT format has not surfaced that detail already?
  14. A bunch of cars on Hemmings although their format does not remove their cars once sold so some of these may no longer be available. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/caterham/super-7/1843275.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/lotus/super-seven/1868023.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/7/1865338.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/super-seven/1864119.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/lotus/7/1861752.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/super-seven/1857071.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/lotus/super-seven/1843916.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/lotus/7/1832388.html http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/lotus/7/1827972.html Classiccars.com also has a few https://classiccars.com/listings/view/715384/1969-lotus-seven-for-sale-in-spokane-washington-99208 plus this one. 15. This week's updates BAT listed a CA 2002 zetec Caterham. 16. I love the site. I used the Daytona Historics page as a reference point once when restoring my BMW CSL. I had no idea it was your father's website. Very well done! Would he have been taking race photos back in 1976-1980 timeframe? I am looking for some IMSA/Trans AM photos of a specific car.

  20. I can definitely say that a July 4 long weekend on the Thunderbolt track will not happen. The bike group have a lock on that track that weekend since the track opened and they are locked in permanently - sadly for us. Tom and I will have the debate over alternative weekend dates and track options when the schedule gets published in January 2017 (or if we re lucky maybe December 2016).
  21. Geez Busa that looks mean! I like the detail of the 4 exhaust outlet. Hope your health is remaining good? Any improvement so you can keep driving?
  22. I read your original post so I know they existed at one point! Thats really strange.
  23. I am not sure its the imported engine that makes over 25 year old cars difficult to register. Its just that many states are clueless with dealing with them even when you have the right CBP import paperwork. Some states cannot handle non-US titles or documents with different languages even when you have a legal attorney certified translation. John's suggestion above is a sensible one especially since seven values in western Europe stay very strong given the difficulty in getting new ones on the road and their high prices when new. So you could buy and drive for a few years and not really lose out. Then buy another one in the US when you arrive without having all the hassle and cost of importing a car. For buying a seven are you factoring in the cost to bring it over in a container? Import fees? Clearance fees? CBP tax grabs? You would probably need your own 20 foot container for car and I assume household objects since shippers don't like to share out containers for mixed loads (car and household - but they will do it for each on their own). So this adds to the cost you are investing into the car which is instant depreciation once the car hits stateside. If you still did want to bring a car over as a personal import then for your cars linked, I would try to stay with a car that will help your resale value state side. So the Westfield is definitely overvalued relative to the US once you convert Euro into Dollars. The Donky's you link are reasonably priced, are attractive, well made, very competent cars, etc. but you will be on your own for support and even if you are unfazed by this, a potential US purchaser after you will probably be. Was not sure about the manufacturer of the other two.
  24. Thats nice! Great color. Why have you got a kmh speedo? Caterham have the mph speedo for US cars. Or was yours sourced from an alternative sales channel?
