  1. Just mark your starting point with a sharpie or something. If it all goes wrong you know how to get back to where you started from.
  2. Had to look them up http://www.coolguitars.ca/7.htm Then I remembered I had seen the kits for sale before http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?4850-Project-Kit-Super-8-Lotus-7-Replica
  3. Its amazing how a paint job can really update a car and make it look it more modern. :iagree:
  4. No Tom its a relative height/level position issue. Go to page 10 of the assembly instructions linked below http://sevener.fr/articles_redac/westfield_sei_construction_manual.pdf While the diagram and verbiage is pretty crap (equal to Caterham and Birkin in their instructions!) it does talk about adjusting the master cylinder pushrod nuts to get the desired brake pedal position. I would assume you can do the same with the clutch pedal as the instructions are silent (or Westfield's don't have clutches?). That would be my first suggestion. If that does not give you enough adjustability then the second suggestion would be to PM JohnCH on this forum as the ultimate Westfield guru and see if he has some technical ideas. Third option is to reach out to the guys at Manik LLC who are the Westfield importer and see if they have a better suggestion.
  5. 36? Gee you are a slow learner. Why don't you give up and just buy the Dodge Caravan minivan? It will solve all your problems. Go on...you know you want it.... :jester:
  6. I can vouch for this car being in immaculate condition having seen it a few times in person. I also know Exoticars well as they have done work on my some of my Caterhams in the past.
  7. The Lotus 7 Club of the UK has chassis guides. Anyway the pre-1990 VINs did not identify by year. You need their club historian who MAY be able to provide details on chassis history - factory records are not the most complete or organized. 8. Here is Folis Jones in his Birkin at VIR Does not show how fast he gets though. And I recall he had aero modifications? Caterham speedos seem to over read by about 4-5% at vmax - at least my 2004 and 2011 do when measured by GPS speed. So Michael's 139mph speed is probably a true 133-5mph.
  9. You know, I am just a sucker for garages filled with gorgeous cars. Friday afternoon, pop a beer and have chat on cars.
  10. Hi Will Welcome to the forum! :seeya: If you are thinking of taking the Birkin to VIR then maybe think about joining the sevens group on track at NJMP on the July 4th long weekend - look in the regional posts area. You would not be the only bike engined car present! Cheers mike
  11. I bet that goes round corners steady as a rock....
  12. You would have better results calling Dave direct at his phone number in the ad above, as I dont think he comes on the forum that frequently.
  13. Thats an encouraging amount of progress. One thing has got me though - do you panel under the seats or do you leave it open a'la Flintstone style for power and braking?
  14. Right...who has the 200 pound anchor to slow Seb down to the speed of mere mortals?
  15. I would score the landing quite highly! :jester:

  17. :iagree: This is one of my ultimate best looker sevens to admire.
  18. Well, I learned something new. I thought they were $110-115k. And I suppose it would be if I was buying and I found the option list. I like options!
  19. I don't believe you can buy one or under $100k? Can you?
  20. Welcome to USA7s. That car has been for sale for a while but it has not sold. I have seen the car in person too. It regularly comes up in my search script results. Before you dive into buying a seven, particularly an original, it pays to learn all about them, how to identify an original (chassis markings, ID plates, changes/mods from original, etc.), as all of these greatly impact the value it is worth. You don't want any "stories" with a car just a nice clean well documented history, big file of paperwork and no disputes about its identity. Also, before you buy any car from a dealer it is critical to google them for their reputation, customer complaints and and quality rating with the Better Business Bureau. Its the same as checking out the feedback on an Ebay seller.

    Incredible!!!

They are not nuts - I learned to jump out of small planes quite happily, 120 something jumps to my credit before I decided I had cheated death enough. What is nuts is me reaching 2 million miles on United Scarelines last year. Why could I not find a better airline? Oh wait, there isn't one in North America! :dupe: Anyway, I had seen this video earlier and seen some other not public documentation that went with this oops moment. Plane on top could not see the lower one and vice versa because of the lack of visibility. They have had a few of these collisions over the Hudson River in NYC which works on visual rules for the most part with the light aircraft corridor. FAA was not too impressed from what I read - lack of planning/coordination/risk management/etc. Lucky both pilots had parachutes harnessed on and knew how to jump (not difficult - just fall towards the ground ), although the upper plane's pilot managed to somehow land his aircraft in one piece. They would not have enjoyed the accident investigation. Did either lose their license or get a penalty? I never found out. The luckiest guy was the one who ended up straddling the fuselage of the lower plane during the collision. He could have easily been crushed or knocked unconscious or sliced apart in the shredded debris. Whats Biggles's professional view of this one? (Hi Shane!:seeya:)
  22. BAT has a 1962 Lotus Seven listed for sale today http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-lotus-super-7-2/
  23. Well said Rolexa! I assumed this Ebay auction would be like 98% of the ones I see out there. If you don't need to sell then there is no reason to compromise on price. I apologize for grouping you with the other sellers. I am very happy to be proven wrong in this instance with your comments showing that you truly do care for your car and will continue to drive it happily. :driving: As for why other sellers re-list at lower prices on Ebay then you may want to look at the Dutch auction strategy. I personally don't think it is a good one for sevens but it is prevailing on Ebay from my observations.
  24. Dan Is there an expiry date on the belts? If so then you need to replace them. One of my cars has an expiry date and if expired then I need to replace to run. If no expiry date like my other car then NJMP will not require me to replace. The thinking is that belts deteriorate/stretch with age hence the expiry date. That position is the view of the NJ State Police who interpret the application of State Law Article 62 which governs use of motor racing facilities in NJ. Given the new trooper overseeing NJMP is a hard ass who has already banned one of my (non-7) cars from running an NJMP HPDE because of a strict constructionist view of belts and roll cage then you are not going to win this battle by pleading to NJMP or the trooper (ask me how I know!). I am also aware of the absurdity of this view as I tested it two years back with my maroon seven. It has both the undated Caterham harness and undated DOT belts. When I was told to prove the harness as being in date I said it was not possible as it had no expiry. So I insisted on running the 3 point DOT belts that day. NJMP had to admit that I was legally correct to do so as much as they thought it was an unsafe solution (and I agree with NJMP). This legal stupidity is why Porsche Crash Club track days allow participants to go out driving with 40 year old DOT seat belts that have no expiry date. :banghead: Anyway, don't you want to be safe? Do you know if the previous owned accidentally stretched the belts? Isn't it peace of mind to update the belts with new ones to protect you? Cheers mike PS - 8 year old tires? hmmm.....
  25. Ummm Steve...probably should be! The Robin Hood will eventually go for $15k area. Thats GBP8-9k area. Wasnt the Robin Hood the comedy engineering brand with fiberglass spring perches and other death design features? The S4 7 is being sold by a dealer who probably paid too much since it has failed the 3 month dealer inventory rule. It should be $23k area so that makes it GBP14k Its a case of not much supply to push the prices down.
