What is your daily and how do you like it?

I'd spec my Mk1 escort with either a Duratec or a BDA (if not my daily) and a CR Type 9 5 speed. Steel Bubble arches, 13x8 wheels (or the 13x7 campagnolos on my 2002 now), LSD, Full Suspension, Quick Rack, etc. I've been wanting to import one for years, but california air resources board makes importing cars from 1968-1975 difficult, even though they are smog exempt.

 

Nice - I like that spec. Such a fun driving car - it encourages you to hang the tail out - not that I need encouragement.

 

Sad that CARB gets in the way. Its bad enough to import one to the USA and dealing with the Federal import but to do it again into CA is just too much. I'd love to move to CA for a bunch of reasons plus I would save on taxes coming out of NJ but the CARB/DMV bureaucracy is a killer to my existing little collection of cars.

I had a Escort Twin Cam, the successor to the Lotus Cortina. White, big wing, AVO plate. Great car. Have always wanted another one. A friend in the UK still has his original RS1600 BDA car.

My daily driver is a 1988 Porsche 924S Le Mans. One of 12 in Canada. 250 in Germany, 240 ROW. None in U.S. they got 500 1988 924S SE a track prepared car. The Le Mans was also equipped for the track but had extra equipment not wanted on a track car like AC, power steering, etc., it was called Club Sport in Japan and Spirit in Spain.  It is a transaxle car, one of the best handling cars ever made. A transaxle car has the current Nurburgring production car record right now, the Mercedes GTR. The 1952, 1953 F1 championship winner the Ferrari 500 was a transaxle car. The 1952 Ferrari 500 F1 car  had very similar spec to the Super 7, 540 kg, 4 cyl. Lampredi 2.0 lt engine 2 Weber 2 barrels,  180 hp. 4 speed transaxle.   Eight of the Lotus 7's manufactured in Argentina had Lampredi 4 cyl 2.0 lt. engines.  The Dutton Super 7 clone  I just bought has a Lampredi 2.0 litre engine. The Lampredi 2.0 4 cyl. engine was used in Fiat, Lancia, Morgan, Lotus, Alfa Romeo. The Lampredi 4 cyl. engine was in more World Rally champion ship winners then any other engine in history. Lampredi designed engines for Ferrari then later worked at Fiat. The Lampredi 4cyl. double overhead cam engine was the first to have a rubber timing belt. A 1953 Ferrari 500 Mondial with the Lampredi 2.0 4 cyl engine sold recently for $5.4 million dollars, the seller bought it 50 years ago for $2500.

My number 2 daily driver is a '95 GTI with an Audi 1.8 20vt swap, stage 2, 25 lb boost 240 hp, 1000 kg.  fun car, I like VW and VAG products. The Super 7  is more involving, intense,  more of a trip, event to drive.

I don't like the new cars (the T50 might be good), all my cars are old, 1988 924S, 1980 924 turbo, '95 GTI, '98 GTI, 1980 BMW E30 320i m20b20 euro., 1978 Dutton Phaeton S2 Lampredi Super 7 clone.

How do you like the 550 spyder compared to the 7?

Until recently my daily driver was a Mercedes CLK 350 convertible. A great car, but not a lot of storage room. Also, with that I had 3 rag tops in addition to the Caterham, so a few months ago I joined the dark side and traded the CLK for an Acura RDX. I got a 2018 because I prefer a naturally aspirated 3.5 liter 6 to a 2 liter four banger turbo. My wife has a Chevvy Volt, which is a great car for local trips.

That's a good upgrade for a DD.

Cant seem to say goodbye

My daily was the cat but in Florida it was just to hot without a roof and A/C in but man did I look cool (until I had to get out of the car) 

 

Now me got a car with A/C and a roof..... although two days after taking delivery the A/C was out so now me got a car with a roof and no A/C

 

 

 

Already having regrets

As noted elsewhere here, I am a big fan of the Evora 400. I will be following your trials and tribulations here, and on LotusTalk, with interest. You seem to be under warranty and  I assume the AC can be fixed by a Lotus dealer?
 

Hopefully, once this initial fettling is completed, you will be able to enjoy the car more.
