My cable broke this morning so I’m in dire need of a replacement unit, measures approximately 67 inches, I have attached pictures for clarification. If you have this item please let me know as soon as possible, thanks for looking!

I took one out of my Westfield over the winter, went hydraulic, but it's only about 48" long.....

Burton has several lengths available   I think this one is QCC1010

I've not seen bike stuff nearly big enough for clutch---throttle, all the time

Just in time for Spring! Looks like mk3 cortina or escort ends but 2-3 times as long. There are companies that swage cables while you wait but it is a question of having the right ends and if they are willing to make a part for a road vehicle or swag a new rope in a used housing. I don't know of any domestic application using similar fittings and length.

A universal six foot 4300 series marine control cable is likely much better quality than the original cable and comes with 1/4-28 threaded ends but if going to that much trouble, why not hydraulic? By the time you do all that, your new cable and spare that you probably ordered in March will have arrived.

The bicycle and bike parts are very thin rope which will stretch.

assuming you're LHD with a right side fork, you want the 5 foot cable, they are the last two on the Burton site,
CCESCYB1  170 cm / 5.5ft
CCESCYB2  173 cm / 5.67ft

What makes our cars made for the Mk1 Escort difficult to cable is the eyelet on the pedal end...that didn't continue on many other cars.

Also, cables from "First Line" are notoriously unreliable.  if that's all you can get,  get a few.

thats where they break  at the eyelet.

Hello,

I was on the Burton site last night and I saw these two items. Thanks for the lead and thanks to all the other folks on USA7s for their help!

Regards

Problem solved but thinking out loud, a mod to reduce eye friction and keep the cable from flexing at the base of the rigid fitting with something semi-rigid would greatly extend the life. Maybe a split piece of plastic then wrapped with the fitting shank in a good tensile strength tape would do it but not pretty. I wonder if the other design pedal with the hook and oval-squarish eye turned 90 deg works better. At least the design is more common. A 300 lb tensile is about all that is needed considering around 45 lbs of foot pressure with a 5:1 pedal.

Late to this thread but as others have said a bicycle cable kit is what I have with universal cable lock eyelets from Napa. Works like a charm. Keep a spare in the back with me just in case.

Do you crimp your own eyelets?

I would like to see more on this.

Building a reliable cable sourced with local parts is a big deal.

I didn't have to crimp anything. I got a cable cutter tool to make a clean cut at the right length.

I have ITB's so the "bob" at one end had to be a match to go into the housing. It was a tiny little bit too big but slight grinding modification made it fit right in.

I got generic cable stops for the other end. OEM single would always slip, so I went with the old Soviet approach of overbuilding and added 3 cable stops back to back to back to make sure it doesn't slip again.

I can get pictures when I get home but I'm sure my setup is a little bit different then yours

I think Vovchandr is talking about a throttle cable. I've used bike brake (thicker) cable for throttle before and I agree that can work well for that.

Big whoosh on my part. You're right I'm not talking about a relevant matter here. Disregard
