I didn''t look it up, but I'll bet it's in the Houston area, not Dallas. Don't see a Texas plate.

Have a linky on me :seeya:

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5529005762.html

Looks like it was freshly imported through the over 25 year rule. I bet it is not titled/registered to save the seller the fees/sales tax which a buyer now has to pay. Check that all of the requisite stamped import paperwork comes with the car otherwise you cannot get a title. In at least one state I can think of the importer needs to be the person titling so it won't work with a new buyer.

Despite that I like the look of the car - nice color scheme of blue and gray.

In one photo there is another seven in the background. Looks like a Robin Hood or GBS? I guess it will be up for sale shortly.

Maybe it is but I cannot access your link for some reason. It wants me to register and I have enough car website registrations as it is.

Why don't you buy it? You would like a seven to drive this summer! ;)

The Lotus 7 replica previously shown photographed with the hearses is back. Apparently two prior sales failed due to one instance of shady behavior and on the second, an inability to get it registered in Massachussetts (no surprise there).

This car was not made with the unreliable land rover engine, like the Caterham R500 but, instead it uses a 2006 GSX-R Suzuki 1000cc engine that was mapped and balanced to perform and have the most available torque with reliability.

Glad to know we all drive sevens with Land Rover engines?

Current bid is $11999 with 4 days to go and reserve not met.

This next one is interesting. Looks to be some form of Locost.

00i0i_lzwuf8AbOZh_600x450.jpg

have a track car that I was told was a Westfield, when I bought it. I don't think it is. Not sure what the real story is.

It is built with sheet steel and square tubing. It has Datsun 280Z suspension, floor pan and firewall. Nice powder coated wire wheels that need some cleaning.

It has a Ford 1967 289 motor and a C4 that goes with it. The mount for the motor is in the car. Transmission mount needs to be figured out. I have a 280Z driveline. I don't have the Ford driveline. I have new red and black track seats.

The price is $6,000.00, firm.

The photos looks like Triumph front suspension? Not the best images to work with. The competition history is evident by the stickers on the backside.

Was top bidder for the 2014 Birkin in CA; however, didn't meet the reserve. It feels like I'm always searching for a Seven I can drive on the street and take to HPDE events, that has a full cage. Willing to pay fair value, prefer IRS and I don't need more than a standard Zetec to get myself started.

Other than checking here, Autotrader, Craigslist, and Hemmings, what else should I be doing? Sounds like I should/will attend the Lotus 7 event at NJMP this summer to gain a few contacts.

Dan, Definitely come out to NJMP for the July event. You never know if just what you are looking for will be there. :auto: Or if you buy the California Birkin, get it shipped quickly!!!! :jester: Tom

I would email the Birkin seller to see if you can do a deal offline at $22k or lower. 2014 build, Duratec IRS, and full cage - it meets your spec. The price seems ballpark fair given it is a 2014 car with the Duratec and IRS. The transmission leak is a bit of work but its hard enough to find a car that is close in spec to begin with. Tom will help you fix the transmission! Not sure if you are looking at a further price adjustment given the shipping cost from west coast? I get that. You can wait for the seller to drop but then you risk losing the deal because $22k is within the range someone will consider is fair.

There is a non-road Caterham in NJ that could be for sale sub-20s (SCCA spec, cage, zetec, T-9) but it is aesthetically challenged since it is exclusively a track car that needs a lot of work to be street registered. I know another two older street Caterhams in the north east/mid atlantic that will be up for sale later this year but neither of those meet your spec plus their value is much higher (29-34k area guessing?) than the money I think you are looking to spend.

The places to consistently look for a seven for sale:

- here

- Fleabay

- Craigslist

- Autotrader

- classiccars.com

- Lemmings

- Texas Motor Works - Dick Brink's site is still going

- Tony Vaccaro's Loony site - Caterhams and original Lotus sevens only.

There are other classic car dealers than pop up from time to time but they are hit or miss for availability.

Strongly suggest that any potential buyer of the afore-mentioned, caged Birkin, built by Texas Motor Works, do a search on this forum for "Issues with Texas" before plunking down any hard earned cash....

Hi Mike -

Good call, I've thought about it, and will probably call today. A little hesitant due to motor being a Ford "Test Motor" and the build starting out as a kit in Canada. Car is nice and seller seems very much upstanding. I'll let you know how we do.

Also, will do Kitcat.

2005 Birkin in TX

2005 Birkin S3 up for sale.

This is a California SB100 car and should be smog exempt in CA. Originally built by MSI with a their 200hp Zetec. I have had the car since August of 2010 and have enjoyed every minute I have spent behind the wheel. The Birkin is located in Austin, TX and is ready to drive as is on the road or the track.

The car is equipped with ITBs, Emerald M3D F.I., Quaife LSD, semi close T-9 gear box. The car is fully sorted and ready to go anywhere or run track sessions long enough to empty the 11 gallon tank. The stock Birkin fuel tank has been modified to run an internal fuel pump and is baffled with check balls eliminate the fuel starvation issues the stock tank was known for.

The car comes with the following

The car comes with 2 sets of wheels and tires. For the street I have 949 15x7 fronts with 205/50 R888 and the rears are 15x8 running 225/50 R888

The 2nd set of wheels are light weigh multi piece 13 inch Kodiak wheels running Avon ACB10 tires for track use.

A new set of sport seats with mounts not installed in car

2 windshields and a 1st gen Caterham wind deflector

3 Roll bars (one new unused stock, one cut up stock and a custom one that is 8 or so inches taller than stock that will allow anyone to pass a broom stick test

A Birkini top

A unused fuel cell designed and build for MSI

A unused and never installed fire system

Wind deflectors and storage bag

I also have a set of custom hemi jointed radius arms that I have never installed

Birkin spare tire carrier

I am sure I am missing items that are included but will add to the list as they come to mind

The brake system has just been flushed and oil changed.

I also have a small tilt trailer available to transport the car.

Builder of the car was MSI. New name to me? Anyone know more?

This might be one for Dan - lots of extra bits to work with.

Asking $26000

Westfield Pre-Lit in CA

Every serious driver should own a car like this for a while. I have had it for 3 years, and have made a number of improvements during my tenure, which is part of the beauty of this car; there is nothing a mechanically oriented person cannot handle as far as maintenance is concerned. This car was factory built in 1984 in Great Britain, and is permanently California street registered as a 1962 under the SB100 provision.

In contrast to the relatively common Birkin or Caterham, this is a traditional car, using virtually all of the same running gear as the Lotus Super 7 it emulates, and that similarity is the reason Westfield lost a law suit forcing them to cease and desist production at about 130 vehicles. This is chassis number 52.

Some details:

Ford Kent Crossflow 1600

Weber DCOE 40 (2)

Sierra T-9 5 speed gearbox

Escort 3.99 rear end w/LSD

SPAX adjustable shocks

Working lights and horn

Fresh Toyo RA1 tires on 13" Mini-Lites

Fuel cell as well as both oil and water catches

Serious roll bar

5 point harness (2)

Recently turned front rotors and rear drums

Several boxes of spares and a short block.

My recent "improvements" include a front sway bar, Carter rotary fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator w/gauge, New carbs and pro-tune, rebuilt head, custom seat bottom, rebuilt rear end, and many lesser items. Compression and leak down testing near perfect.

This car is fantastic in AutoX, and makes me feel like I know what I'm doing! 100% garaged when not being driven. This car is street legal and could be a daily driver, but I wouldn't recommend it. I do have a top and windshield wipers but have never considered fitting them. I also have a dry sump oil system for the car, but it too is in a box.

Similar British inspired cars include Caterham, Birkin, and the many home made LoCost semi-replicas, but cars as sorted and authentic as this one are few and far between.

Hi Guys, I am trying to get some sense of how to price and market my 1999 Birkin S3 Lotus. It belonged to my husband. He lavished money on it but died before he really had a chance to use it. I have all the receipts for the many upgrades (engine overhaul, Zetec transmission, oil pump, new exhaust tubing, Birkini top, drag seat, carrera shocks, on and on) Unfortunately, he spent money he did not really have and I need to sell it. Can anyone advise me as to what it is worth? It is in spotless condition and has about 33,000 miles. Any advise would be much appreciated!

I certainly can respect your opinion- but its kind of a stretch to question the quality of a car without inspecting it or driving it

Not sure who you were directing your comment at, but for the record I agree with you. A potential purchaser must make the effort to inspect in person before purchasing. My first US seven was rubbished on this forum when it came up for sale but I ended up buying it at a good price and doing a bit of sorting so it became a great car. While a seven may have had a difficult build by TMW it is the actions of the owner post-TMW that determine how good and well sorted it ends up or whether it is still flawed. Inspection will clarify. At the price the Birkin in question is being offered at I am smelling an opportunity for a buyer.

However, an inadequately detailed ad or an ad with stupidly high pricing will get a pithy response from me because it (a) shows a seller does not care, (b) is lazy, and/or © is trying to pull a quick one over some unsuspecting buyer. If they will do that in an ad then it does the car for sale a disservice. However, I know not every seller agrees with me as I have 3 cease and desist legal letters in the last year (all from dealers) from my comments on this thread to prove it.

Please accept my sympathies for the loss of your husband. Its clearly a difficult time for you dealing with the estate issues when your mind is probably elsewhere.

You have not given much to go on with here for constructing a value or even a potential ad so that you get the right value out of the sale. These cars are so individual and customized in spec that their value can move significantly based on a few choice options. My guess is it will sit between $19-25k with the final price being dependent on the spec. I am going to ask some questions to see if we can help discern the specifications better to price it more fairly.

1) Which state is it titled in and what is it titled as?

2) I guess it has the 2L Zetec engine. Do the receipts say what work was done to increase/improve power? More hp = high value for the most part.

3) I am pretty sure it will have the Ford Sierra T-9 5 speed gearbox. I don't know

4) Some photos of the engine bay, front, side, rear will help us see what options were added. Two options for adding photos - upload them onto a free photo bucket account website or size them so you can just upload them here (they don't allow big uploads on this site). If all else fails you can email me the photos and I can host them on my site and post them on this forum.

5) Do you know who he bought it from (was it a dealer or private individual without revealing name) and which state. We may be able to find it on this forum through its past owner.

6) Are all pieces on the car or are there bits and spares not installed but stored in the garage. These are worth money if they are listed out in an ad. Clearly the Birkini top is one of them.

7) Did he do any competition with the Birkin? Some of these modifications are costly and worth spelling out to a potential purchaser.

I am not sure if anyone from the club is local to you to read the various invoices/receipts and assemble together what the spec is? Tom Carlin of Birkin America is located in Eagle CO if that is anywhere near you. If no one is local to you then let me know in a Private Mail on this forum, I can arrange a phone call where you can read the receipts out for me over the phone and I can assemble it in writing that you can use for the forthcoming ad. No fee or cost - just trying to help the seven community.

When it comes time for selling, these cars are somewhat unique. They may take longer to sell than a regular car since purchasers are fewer. The best places for advertising them are:

- an ad on this USA7s forum

- EBay

- Hemmings (under the Lotus 7 category)

These get the best spread of coverage across the country for potential purchasers.

Hope this helps

mike
