Biography
I have been involved in grassroots motorsport my whole life. For the past 33 years i have owned and raced a Datsun 510. i have wanted a caterham for more than 20 years and just acquired my dream cat last summer. Plans are to use the car for autocross, hill-climbs and HPDE.

Caged Laser Roadsport Imperial Double D cage (in Kit Form)

Good Day to All. Is there no one in Caterham Land that has thought about a cage in their car. The cage can be mig welded together(that is the welding process Caged Laser uses). As the welding process is performed on your car, fit will be better. As mentioned it does allow the use of Caterham hoods and doors, access is same as getting in and out of car with hood in place. As there are many knowledgable owners online every day .... If I am completely "out to lunch" on my asking $$, perhaps someone can let me know. The cage/tubes are sitting in my garage doing nothing. I do understand that all our plans for this season are on hold, but if there is any interest please post. Many thanks Cam -
For Sale Caged Laser Roadsport Imperial roll cage in kit form. I dealt with Alvin at Caged Laser to produce me a Double D cage for my 1998 Caterham Series 3 car. Because the cost of shipping an assembled cage is expensive, I enquired about Caged making me a cage in kit form. The plan was to have them to bend and notch all the tubes, pre-fit and tack, label all joints and then take apart to ship in a flat box. I would then arrange to have cage welded by a local fabricator. I wanted this cage as it allows for the Caterham hood and doors to be used as I use the car for road and track. Attached is invoice from Caged for unit and shipping in British Pound Sterling. Also attached are pictures showing the cage on a Caterham being assembled as well as I have mocked up the tubes and fastened with black tape to show the kit assembled and broken down. The invoice attached shows cost of cage as a kit, shipping in pounds sterling. It does not include the brokerage fees or taxes paid(a further $189.00). i have ordered jongbloed 3 piece wheels for my 1999 caterham HPC in a 13x10". in past posts there is mention of different backspacings...4.0"...4.5"...5" all depending on wheel width. question is...with the car on a hoist and the rear dedeon suspension drooping, does the distance between the 'dedeon ear' and the inside of the wheel change dimensions? i have test fitted a bare wheel with a 5" backspace with car on hoist and suspension drooping and clearance to the ear is good. when suspension gets compressed(car on the ground) does the dedeion tube rotate in a direction that would cause the clearance to diappear. looking at pictures and manuals it appears the rotation would be linear, in other words clearance would be the same. can anyone confirm this for me? many thanks Cam T

Thanks Tom for the quick reply. Your name came up last week as I was reaching out to MichaelD. He mentioned you had a vauxhall powered 7 and a big autocrossing background. Apologies for being a little daft, but I always believed the A7 Hoosiers were the go to tire for autocrossing? One season I used Hoosier cantilevered bias slicks on the Datsun at the Knox Mountain hillclimb and never used them again. That said the main reason for discontinuing using was clearance issues. Since then we have been using the A7's. Most of the competitors at the Knox Mountain hillclimb are using A7's or some use the R7's.....very few are using slicks?. You mentioned the challenge of getting the tire up to temp......do the bias tires heat up quicker? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here, I just want to be clear so I can order the correct wheel from Kodiak. In previous posts you also mentioned back spacing of 4.5 to 4.25 depending on sidewall stiffness.....previous owner had 10" wide wheels made with a 5.0" backspacing and claimed no clearance issues. His wheels were not Kodiak. Any further advise is much appreciated.... thanks...Cam -
New to the forum, acquired my 1999 caterham series 3, last summer. Car is an HPC car, Vauxhall 2.0, updated cams, Weber carbs, 6 speed, limited slip differential, has uprated front and rear springs, bigger front bar and adjustable rear bar. Have owned and raced a 1971 Datsun 510 for more than 30 years. I have always used the Hoosier A6 or A7 tires. Previous owner did autocoss the car(10 years ago)and used bogart wheels, 13x10 with Hoosier R25 slicks. Going over various posts the common tire appears to be the Hoosier bias ply slick in the softest compound. What are people's thoughts on the A7 in the 255/40-13 on a 9" wheels vs either 20.9x9/13 or the 22.5x10/13 bias slicks on 10" wheels? Is there a reason the dot radials don't appear to be the tire of choice? thanks
