My son Ben and I ran Super Stalker #112 at the log auto x on Sunday, there were only 27 cars there as many were off at the fun run and at the rally so we got in 9 runs each (which we needed as we're neewbies at auto xing thing) we had great weather and the car ran so well we couldn't have been happier - or so we thought! towards the end of the day we were visited by Clive Chapman (Colin's son) and Bob Dance (Lotus crew chief) from Classic team Lotus, Bob is an old mechanic friend of mine and it took very little to persuade him to come along for a ride on my last run of the day, he thoroughly enjoyed the experience of "rushing around in car parks" as he put it and insisted that Clive would probably enjoy a run, again Clive being a true 'Car Guy' jumped in for a run along side Ben (16 and in only his 2nd autox), he looked at me sideways when I explained that Ben was still new at this game but was slightly more comfortable when he found out that it was not actually his 1st ever run - very trusting if you ask me! Ben did a great job and we all survived to tell the tale (which I can assure you will be 'enhanced' as time passes). Clive seemed to have a great time also and both he and Bob showed genuine enthusiasm for this 'grass roots' form of the sport. maybe next year we'll let them drive?!?!
Many thanks to John Viviani for the photos.
