  2. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/smallRatios-MX5-39toT50-43.jpg This might be the most important chart.... for it shows a LOT of interesting info... 1) note that the gap in the T50 box between 2nd and 3rd... is now shortened... This alone will improve acceleration times. 1a) Another note they are all shortened a bit... actually the shift doesn't extend to the 4th/5th split, and so the gap in the 6 speed is actually a bit wider... since 4th to 5th in the T50 is not a huge gap 2) note 1st gear is nearly a perfect overlay of 1st in the T50. That means starts will be nearly identical if you run a 3.9 final instead of the 4.3 3) Why run a 3.9... note how much taller 6th gear is now... the rpm will drop significantly now... and if you do 70+ on the highway you will now be able to avoid being "in the TVIS" while on the highway... ++++ for MPG 4) Additionally, if you have the hp, and you want to go FAST... you know have the capability (gear to engine speed) of hitting 150mph
  3. For those that like to see charts Using a 3.9 final drive http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/smallRatios-SXE10-T50w39.jpg Using a 4.30 final drive http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/smallRatios-SXE10-T50w430.jpg

  5. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/LEENAdaptorKitSXE10-AE86edited.jpg These units are NOT the ones I was hoping to have produced, Pineapple and I had a parting of the ways. This unit was designed and manufactured in Ireland, they are being manufactured by LEEN The first run of 5 units will be available very soon. Testing is underway as I write this. These units were made to fit the Toyota version of the AZ6 aka J160. The J160 transmission was available on the Altezza, and the Lexus IS200(European model) The J160 is most often found available in the USA, on ebay, they are often times sold with the 3SGE BEAMS engines imported from Japan If you are interested, please contact me by email @ oldeskewltoy@yahoo.com

  7. HMMMMMMMMMM, the bellhousing should also bolt up! The splines might not be the same... but that isn't a big deal.......... THANK YOU..... I never gave the 3T guys any thought..... thank you again. UPDATE For you "T" powered guys... the 6 speed from the 1G powered inline 6 has the same bolt pattern as the T engine... that means you wouldn't need this kit, you can just bolt on and GO!
  8. already posted in locostusa.... I'm just covering my bases....
  9. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/finished2010.jpg My apologies in advance.... This is my first post here... and I've joined because I can help you... if you help me. Now this isn't a "cold sales call", I sent a PM to "slngsht" first, and his response.... Me.... "oldeskewltoy" - search around, but I'm somewhat of a small Toyota rwd enthuisast. I've been involved with the AE86(and other rwd Toyotas) for over 15 years now. My most recent build is a custom AE71 coupe...... .... with a Loyning built 4AGE engine, AND a soon to be finished AZ6 6 speed transmission For those of you who run, or are running a Toyota "A" series engine (4AGE, 5AGE, I can go on....) the choice for a transmission has either been Toyotas T50, the T50 w TRD gears, Quaife, or some other non make(frequently Ford). There isn't a 6 speed option that I know of.... In the mid/late 90s, Aisin Industries developed a new, compact 6 speed transmission. It was purchased by Toyota(SXE/GXE10), Nissan(S15), and Mazda(RX8, Miata). It is built as a modular assembly, the bellhousing is incorporated into the front 25% of the tranmissions case. Swapping that transmission into anything other then these 4 cars required considerable custom work. 4 years ago, I contacted Rob Golden(prop of Pineapple Racing - www.pineappleracing.com) and consulted him on a little project that resulted in nothing short of re-engineering the front 1/3 of the AZ6 transmission case to accomodate a Toyota 4AGE bellhousing. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/collageofadapter.jpg There are a few significant advantages to this particular design 1) this project uses the entire Toyota clutch(bell, flywheel, disc, PP, pilot, and T/O bearings, even all the hydralics remain. There are no custom parts needed. 2) This transmission can withstand 210#/ft of torque pushing aginst a 2800# car! How much does a Lotus7/Caterham weigh?? Got a boosted 4AG, this will work as well 3) the ratios are very well placed for a 4AGE, in essence it is like having a TRD gear set(1-5) in places 2-6, with a conventional 3.7 1st gear to make for easier street use. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/oldeskewltoy/AZ6/belltotranscollage.jpg It can be irksome when someone barges in with something he says I can use... when he doesn't even know my car......... I may not know your car, but if you use a 4AGE in a rwd application, I DO KNOW your pain!!! The T50 has horrible ratios. Did you know when the Toyota Corolla GTS(T50 donor) was 1st introduced, Road and Track(Feb, 1985) loved the car... but were unimpressed with the transmission, stating, How many of you with 4AG power have mimiced this complaint???? There are other ratio choices... but they all cost money. For instance, a T50 with a "cheap" TRD gear set($1400), rebuilt with new bearings will cost $1500-$2000 depending on who does the labor. If you've sprung for the racier TRD gear set($2100), the total could be $2500-$2800. When you are done, you do have better ratios, but it can be difficult to drive in on road conditions because it is so tight a box, AND It also isn't substantially stronger, since the box itself hasn't been addressed!! Other option, Quaife... @$7000, that isn't an option I can afford. As they are right now, if the prototype is the only one made, it'll remain what it is, but if we can actually get 25 units sold, it'll be cast, and then the finish machining will take place. The 2nd part in this package is a new input shaft designed to be the appropriate length, have the box end remain an AZ6 matching unit, but now adding a T50 spline and taper to the clutch/engine end on the shaft. These two parts would sell for $1500.00. An AZ6 transmission is available from $500-$1500, depending on the premium you decide to pay. Figuring the middle of the road, $1000 for the gearbox, and $1500 for the parts, that is inline(cost wise) with a TRD race gear set in a T50. The AZ6 has a 1st gear that can be used on the street, the TRDized T50 doesn't.... The AZ6, is substantially stronger, withstanding over 200# of torque in a 2800# car, the TRD box will not last long under the same conditions. The AZ6 is one of the smoothest, slickest, direct action short shifting gearboxes made, the T50... how long is your throw??? :ack: . And if all that weren't enough, since it runs 30 weight, instead of 90 weight.... less drag means better mileage, and lower fuel costs In the end... what this provides is ultimate peace of mind... Run your bullet-proof 4AGE NOW... with a transmission JUST as bullet-proof!!!!
