Anaximander Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) This 2014 Stalker XL Classic R (Level 6) was factory assembled and delivered to the original buyer in late 2014. The car has a total of 6500 miles since new and has been registered and been street legal in Oregon (a collector), North Carolina (a street driver) and myself here in Florida. The car has never been raced but was going to be part-time purposed by me to do autocross but I decided that I am too old`. The car was assembled from all New Components Including the following: Welded Space Frame Chassis Suspension Control Arms, Uprights and Hubs Aluminum and Fiberglass Body Panels Wilwood 6 Piston Front Brake Calipers, 4 Piston Rear Calipers with a bias control valve Aluminum Pedal Assemblies Coleman Racing Steering Rack and Electronic Assist Power Steering GAZ Shock Absorbers w/Springs Custom Built Exhaust Headers and Mufflers Electronic Management System Flywheel SPEC Clutch Drive Train LS3 New GM Performance Parts LS376/480 Crate Engine (495hp/473 lb.-ft. torque) New Tremec T-56 Magnum Transmission, Close Ratio New GM Limited Slip Differential with 3.23 Final Drive Ratio (factory-rated to handle 551 lb-ft of torque and generally reliable up to roughly 800–850 horsepower) New Custom CV Axles New Kirkey 41 Seats with 4 Point Harnesses Dual Inline Radiators and Racing Fan XXR Wheels Brand New Falken Axenis r660+ tires (front and back) Brand New Braille 17 Lightweight AGM Battery Brand New LED Rear Tail Lights and the front turn signals are LED arrays that were fiberglassed into the underside top of the front fenders Speedhut Custom Gauges Custom Fuel System Including Tank, Walbro Fuel Pump and Fuel Lines The car has undergone a thorough refresh with new fluids (engine/transmission/rear diff/brakes/clutch) and the coolant was just tested and in excellent condition. The tires only have about 350 miles after having been installed and balanced last month. I am pleased to report that there is not one leak or drip from any of the car's components (the rug in the picture is there to lift the hood and keep the paint protected. The car will be sold with a Brunton Auto custom open tilt trailer that was refurbished a month ago with new wheels/tires including a matching spare wheel/tire, new electric brakes with new bearings and the trailer wiring is completely new with a 3500 pound Torflex Axle for a smooth ride. Replacement cost for this entire ensemble would be in the $90-100k range and the car is running like new. I took my neighbor for a ride who is used to high-performance motorcycles and he was blown away by the power to weight ratio and the cars acceleration/deceleration (Weight without passengers is approximately 1800 pounds with 15 gallons of fuel). I am pretty sure that I could get more money on BAT but I hate that they charge 5% and I would rather have a Stalker/Se7enesque lover get it at a more reasonable price. If you ask any of my former Stalker buyers, they will tell you that the cars they bought from me were in superb condition and very well sorted. The engineering and components (i.e. Grade 8 bolts and built from all new parts) that went into the chassis/suspension and drive train make for a car that is extremely quick and very intuitive to drive. Just the parts/components alone to build the car currently exceed a price somewhere North of $70k according to Scott Minehart who is the designer/builder. Scott opined that the XL would be his model of choice for street use and they are extremely successful in full-on track events with the very predictable handling characteristics. One of the truly amazing things about these M-Spec designs is that without all of the "nannies", if you find yourself starting to get loose by over-accelerating, all you have to due is lift off the throttle and the car immediately straightens out. This feature was designed into the car by Scott Minehart and his whole racing family where his brother is the second fastest in the country in SCCA autocross with his 2015 Stalker AXR. The car and trailer are available for pickup in North Florida just South of the Georgia line in Tallahassee. This is my 7th and final Stalker. I have owned 5 M-Spec Stalkers (M-Spec 000, 3 XL's Classic R's, and a (M-Spec AXR that I helped build during the Covid pandemic). Its kind of ironic that if you go to Stalkercars.com, the blue M-Spec and this car are featured on the opening page. Minehart advised last week that he is supplying fiberglass parts for all of his M-Spec cars and has the molds for his 4 different models of Stalkers. The XL's were designed for a smoother ride with a longer/wider wheelbase. The car is titled as a 1962 Lotus 7 Replica. With the adjustable seat and wider dimensions, larger and taller folks with larger feet do not have to squeeze into this car. If you are looking for a custom, hand-built car sourced with all easily obtainable American made parts in the USA in the future, then this is an ideal car for a Seven lover that is a show stopper on the road and at every fuel stop Be prepared to have people giving you a tremendous amount of thumbs up and even folks wanting to video your car because of how unique it looks and how well it performs. Below is a gentle third gear pull to 4800 rpm to show how peppy the car is with a peak HP at 6200 rpm and factory rev limiter at 6600 rpm. 3rd gear video.mp4 Edited Sunday at 11:10 PM by Anaximander Added Pics and Video
Anaximander Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 (edited) I previously showed a video of a pull in 3rd gear. I have comprehensive video of a cold start and a walk around of the car but do not know how to upload those large files. However, I can show pictures of the upgraded Brunton Stalker XL 650 pound tilt trailer that has new wiring, new electric brakes and hubs, new wheels/tires and a matched spare, recent lift pistons, dual safety lock down, 3500 pound Torflex axle for a much smoother ride than leaf springs and the profile when in the drive on position. Please note that the trailer was made many years before the Stalker XL was made. The original owner had a smaller wheelbase M-Spec Stalker that he built from a kit and requested the Torflex axle because he was carrying aircraft kit components that he was selling and helping customers complete the aircraft. When he purchased an XL kit, he had Stalker cars at the time increase the dimensions to accept his XL. It is not particularly pretty (could use a coat of rust prevention paint to make it pretty) but it is very functional and in excellent physical shape. Edited Tuesday at 04:55 AM by Anaximander
Anaximander Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 (edited) I realized that a bunch of pictures of the car seemed to get dropped on the original post. I wanted to show the carbon fiber dash panel and the engine/front suspension configuration of the Stalker XL. The cantilever shock absorbers in the front and rear of the car are reminiscent of F1 type suspensions and make for a taught but very smooth ride for the genre. As I had stated earlier, the handling performance is really extraordinary and the stoutness of the chassis makes for a stronger and safer car. The LS3/480 is rated for peak horsepower of 495hp and 473 foot-pounds of torque at 6200 RPM with the GM rev limiter set at 6600 RPM. Needless to say, only very experienced drivers will be using full throttle at any time of the cars operation and so the engine will likely last forever as long as you put in the correct fuel (93 Octane and keep the gas fresh). BeardyMcWeirdy Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Another Stalker from Anaximander! As a buyer of a Stalker from Anaximander in the past, I wanted to share a few words for any prospective buyers out there. I purchased a Stalker from Bob (Anaximander) a few years back, and seeing his new listing pop up again reminded me how solid that experience was. To any prospective buyer, you are dealing with someone who has owned and built these cars. He’s one of the most knowledgeable people out there on these machines; buying from Bob will assure you access to an invaluable resource for your many years of ownership. When I bought my Stalker years ago, Bob took the time to walk me through everything before the sale, and the whole process was straightforward and genuinely enjoyable. I bought the light blue Stalker Classic R from him about 4 years ago (the one that’s featured on the Brunton site). For anyone looking at this current car—just know these things are on another level. The power is strong and borderline ridiculous, and the performance is something you’d struggle to match even in cars well into six figures. In addition to this, if Bob says he’s gone over everything on the vehicle, rest assured that he’s gone over EVERYTHING. You are buying a well-kept machine. These Stalkers are incredible, and the Mineharts have continued to refine them over time. My experience with Anaximander and the car I bought from him has been nothing but positive. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better-kept example from someone who understands them as well Bob. If anyone has questions about the seller or what it’s like to own one of these Stalkers, I’m happy to help. Buy with confidence! 1 1
Tall Steve Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Okay, gotta ask. How roomy is the Stalker? Jonesing for a 7 but a bit tall (6'6", well proportioned on the torso side).
Anaximander Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 (edited) Tall Steve, The Stalker XL is likely the largest fast se7enesque car than you can buy. You can always modify the roll cage but the center supports do not interfere with headroom. The Stalker XL is one of the largest of all of the se7enesque cars. As a matter of fact, Shaun Minehart, the brother of the builder/designer races a Stalker AXR that is shorter and narrower with a tighter cockpit and he is 6'4" tall. What are key characteristics for fit of a taller person are how your dimensions are in terms of leg lengths and torso proportions. You would have to sit it in it to determine how it fit you. The steering wheel is instantly removable and some taller folks option for smaller steering wheels to accommodate their differing proportions. As a special treat, I had to swap my Stalker in the garage today to change the rear differential fluid and the front transfer case on my 2022 Honda Ridgeline. Sadly, I am scheduled for back surgery in two weeks and will not be able to perform those tasks for some period of time. The special treat is that I did a cold start so that you and others could hear the factory installed camshaft that starts out lumpy for a few seconds and then smooths out but not so much that you ever forget that you have a factory cammed engine that adds 65hp to the engine without affecting any reliability because the engine and ECU are perfectly mated for the LS386/480 GM crate engine. The Stalker with the GM crate engine makes one of the most beautiful sounds with the four into one pipes on both sides singing a melody that only a small block all aluminum engine can make. The M-Spec XL, Classic and AXR's were specifically designed for the dimensions of the LS3 engine which has a significantly smaller footprint than a lot of 4, 6, and 8 cylinder cars. For an example, the Ford Coyote engines are 4 inches wider and 4 or 5 inches taller and do not fit properly in the Stalker design. Tall Steve, I am a bit surprised that it didn't sell in just a few days given all that is included and the condition of the car minus some cosmetics to a few metal surfaces that could use some freshening. The car is simply a magnificent and thoroughly exhilarating ride that is almost unmatched by cars well into the 6 figures at Beardy McWeirdy so aptly pointed out after buying one of my previous Stalker XL's. If I didn't come to grips with the fact that I am aging out for this exquisite machine, it would not be up for sale for several more years. Although the ride is quite compliant for a high-performance machine with its sophisticated modern suspension, I think that my time in this genre has sadly come to a conclusion. Tall Steve Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Appreciate that info. I have heard that about the Stalker. Do you know how much they generally weigh? Any pictures of a stalker near other cars to get perspective on size?
Anaximander Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 (edited) Steve, The Stalker XL's with 15 gallons of fuel weigh about 1800 pounds. They basically have the same length and width dimensions as a C8 Corvette. The picture I have included is the Stalker AXR that I built during Covid. It is considerably shorter and narrower than the XL that has a similar wheelbase to my former 2023 Corvette C8 Z51 hard top convertible. If you look at the montage picture below that had both my C7 Corvette and Turquoise Stalker XL Classic out in front of our house, you can use the front of the house to get a dimensional sense of the length of the respective cars. It funny but I sold the C8 because I found it to be rather boring compared to the Stalkers. With all of the nannies and overly refined design of the Corvette, it felt like a high-performance car that did not have that much soul for my tastes and other than straight line runs, was much less interesting than the Stalkers that handled phenomenally well. Others will disagree with this observation but I have found the Stalkers to be more like low slung rockets on wheels with an amount of visceral feedback that the Corvettes just could not provide. I also had sold one of the last production C7 Corvettes with a 7 speed manual transmission made in 2019 because I liked driving the Stalkers better and the C7 felt "porky". The AXR in the picture weighed 1650 pounds with my 160 pound carcass in the driver's seat. Like the XL's, the car's weight distribution was 50/50. As I had previously mentioned, the handling of the Stalker XL's is simply sublime and a hell of a lot of fun!!! My wife made a montage of some of my former toys. The turquoise Stalker in the picture was the one that I sold to Beardy McWeirdy aka Jon. He can answer any questions that I have not been able to address. He is fairly tall and loved that car. Anaximander Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 (edited) If you are interested in buying this beautiful Stalker XL Classic and my Stalker XL open tilt trailer, I WOULD CONSIDER A REASONABLE OFFER FOR THIS SPECIAL AUTOMOTIVE ENSEMBLE. I would prefer that you PM me if interested in doing that and supply a phone number where you can be reached. We have scammers lurking on our website and I do not want to provide my phone contact information and would only like to hear from credible members of our forum with a history more than a couple of days. Thanks, Dr. Bob Edited March 30 by Anaximander
Anaximander Posted Saturday at 11:02 AM Author Posted Saturday at 11:02 AM (edited) Seven lovers, I have reduced the firm selling price of the car and trailer combination to $38,000. Why buy a 200hp car when you can have almost 500hp? Yes, Bruce Beachman's 300hp CSR has more peonage than my 500hp Stalker XL but is over x3 the cost. Plus, if you are a taller or larger person, I assure you that you will fit in the Stalker XL a lot easier. The excess horsepower is frankly, as Beardy McWeirdy pointed out, almost to the point of silly but judicious use of your brain connected to your right foot and the fact that the car inherently wants to track where you want to go makes it a tremendous hoon car in our beloved Croc's parlance. It is one of the reasons that I have owned so many M-Spec Stalkers. If you start to get sideways in the least, all you have to do is let off for a moment and the car straightens out like it is on rails. Due to the wheelbase and state-of-the-art cantilever front and rear shock functions, the car rides smoothly for a high performance car and as I stated in another post, the designer, Scott Minehart had stated that he would want a Stalker XL for his street car due to the nice ride. The car rides so well that someone reportedly did the four USA corners tour in a Stalker XL and had a great time on the trip according to Glen Minehart, the father of the designer/manufacturer of the car. One of the very useful facts about owning a high-performance se7enesque car sourced exclusively with USA sourced parts is that now and in the future, should a minor repair be needed on the car, all of the parts are readily available in the USA. Additionally, since all of the components were brand new at time of manufacture with only about 6500 total miles, all of the components were specifically designed into the car's development making it a superb and reliable performer. Unfortunately, these current times of supply chain disruptions due to all kinds of geopolitical uncertainties make this hand built, proven roadster, sourced with parts you can get down at the auto parts store a big plus in terms of hassles related to ownership. If you are looking for a car that you are not going to have to do a lot of mechanical fiddling on, this Stalker XL, assembled by the manufacturer/designer and recently inspected and worked on by the manufacturer should give you great confidence that you are buying a car that is going to be both exceptionally fun and reliable. Spring is right around the corner for most of you who do not live in Florida. Great time of year to be in an open cockpit roadster especially at this incredible price! Anaximander Posted Tuesday at 05:10 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 05:10 AM (edited) Dear performance enthusiasts. I have decided to lower the total ensemble price to $38k for a combination that would be about 90-$100k to replace in this current inflationary cost world and to get any dreamers off the fence and into a fabulous car. At just about 77 year old, I have decided to let a younger set of hands have some fun. If you are looking for a se7enesque car that checks all the boxes and will make you the envy of many of your friends and neighbors who will want rides. This is one very real opportunity to get a nicely sorted, pretty fresh car (especially all of the mechanicals) that you are able to get and simply drive across the country and/or if you want to do some minor cosmetics like a paint change, cockpit freshening, or trailer beautifying, you will be getting a car that will provide years of fun and joy in a custom super high performance car than you drive around your community or take to cars and coffee or your local track. Hagerty auto insurance loves these cars and I stated the value for the car alone at $40k which is frankly about $5k undervalued for just the car, but I like Hagerty Insurance and they have insured all of my specialty cars without hesitation. The trailer replacement would be at least $5k so essentially, you are getting a very nicely sorted factory built custom Stalker XL for $33k. Current clear titles and registrations for both items are in my safe and ready for handoff. The first person who says "I will take it" with cash in hand and has already cleared it with their significant other gets this prize! You can come to Tallahassee, we will load the car onto the Stalker XL tilt trailer with all new running gear including electric brakes on the trailer and you will be taking home a treasure.
