twobone Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Is it as straight forward as getting the fenders and new wing stays and bolting them on? In terms of the cycle fenders, I have seen someone post the use of an aircraft industrial adhesive to affix the fender to the wing stays to avoid bolt holes. Any other recommendations? Thanks
supersportsp Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I have looked into this off an on myself. I love the look of the clam shell fenders, but the aero penalties, especially at the track at speed are tough. Other than what you described you will have holes to deal with. You may also have subtle (or not so subtle) dimples from where the clams were affixed in the aluminum bodywork. The dimples will depend on how aggressively tightened the bodywork was. Also, with an older car like yours it is likely to be worse from wear etc. You can always re-skin the lower fronts if you want a totally clean look, but I have seen converted cars that look pretty good. Here is an example. http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4124
breezy7 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Here is a link to the California Caterham Club article on attaching with adhesives and try a search on the Lotus Seven Club site, I have seen it discussed there quite a bit.http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/resources/CycleWings.pdf Mike
