G2sound Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I decided to buy a crated Zetec ZX3 engine to replace the tired old ZX1 in my S1. I popped the cam covers off of the old (ZX1) engine today and found that it has a pair of Kent Sportcams! Just wondering if anyone knows whether or not I can drop these cams into the new (ZX3) engine? If so, will I need to replace the stock followers, the stock springs, etc.?
slomove Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) I may be wrong, but I doubt it. Obvious difference is the solid vs. hydraulic followers but I suspect there are other dimensional differences, too. I know you can not use the ZX3 cams for the ZX1 so I guess it wont' be possible the other way round. You may be able to sell the Kent cams (or the head) to a ZX1 owner and buy ZX3 performance cams (cheaper and more choices) for that money. Do you know if that is the FZ2001, FZ2002 or FZ2003 cam? G2sound Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Not sure, I'll check tomorrow, but I suspect that they are the 2001. They drove pretty nicely, not too radical for the street.
Guest speedcraft Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 the model will be marked on the end of the cam where the gear goes on. they may not be Kent. could be a number of makes including crower if they are aftermarket. fzXXXX would be kents.
