eVox
Im looking at a job just north of Phoenix doing some automotive stuff and am wondering what anyone in the area thinks of the place. I've lived in Atlanta my last few years and with the recent cold spell, Az is looking nicer and nicer. Specifically...hows the car scene in Arizona? Are there junkyards? Off Road SHO
Are there junkyards? You've got to be kidding me. With our dry climate all the rusty cars from back east heal themselves in 2 to 3 months, tops. Yeah we have plenty, what sort of work do you do? eVox
I am a student right now, but have done a lot of work with suspensions and handling... are there aircraft junkyards out there too?
Off Road SHO
Down around Tucson there are a few. The one that I knew of in west Phoenix was gobbled up by the housing boom. Please tell me you're not planning on making a living at a wrecking yard, auto or aerialmobile type. Tom
eVox
haha I wish... Toyota has a test track north of phoenix that I am interviewing at. Junkyards just make it a happier place to live. Are there many seven owners around phoenix?
Off Road SHO
Small world. I did the fiber feed for that place years ago. That's out near Wittman AZ NW of Phoenix. I remeber the facility was so clean inside you could eat off the floor. Of course they didn't have any vehicles or people yet, but it was still a spotless facility. I also enjoyed the speed limit signs for the 3 lanes of the 10 mile around, banked test track. It was the MINIMUM you could do in the fast lane (outer) of like 155 mph. This was way before cheap digital cameras, otherwise I would have taken pics. But luckily Google Earth took some for me. There are junk yards along Grand Ave in between Phoenix and Wittman. There are several other test tracks in that area also; an old Chrysler track off of 211 ave (I think) and maybe a Volvo track west of Grand Ave. I've met 5 LoCost builders so far and if I can talk one of them into selling me their older project there will be a 6th shortly.
