Congrats on your purchase Stephen. Toyotas 2TC/3TC engines have been around a long time and can be upgraded, of coarse with dollars, to mega horsepower. If you havent come accross this site already it may be usefull, http://www.brdracing.com/for_sale.htm.

I have the twin cam 2TG in my Fejer 7, and I am still on the learning curve when it comes to tuning etc, but I love the power.

Have fun, thats what its all about.

Stephen where are you from?

I'll admit that I made that guy a stupid low offer on that frame, thinking I could just refurbish things like the front suspenion,..etc, and swap them on to my car completed.

My fejer is a 2T twin side draft. Parts are cheap enought. Theres was just a nice 2T for sale on Kijiji for $650...

check out www.3tcgarage.com forum. for a ton of oldschool Toyota engine knowledge. you too ihckb2..lot of 2TG info there....

Enjoy your build.

I'm in Guelph.

Here's something interesting I realized on the car this morning - the wheels have differing front and rear offsets. This car (and perhaps all Fejers) has an exhaust that goes to the back of the car rather than just a side outlet. The tire was rubbing on the exhaust on that side (left) so I was concerned that the heat from the fire warped the frame or the exhaust but both looked as designed and built. Then I noticed the difference in offset between the spare and the left side rims. Checked the other side and noticed a difference between the front and back. Voila - The spare got swapped onto the car and with too wide a tire it rubs on the exhaust. It must have had three front rims and two rears with the extra front rim used as a spare. When I get around to putting tires on it I'll have to use a skinny spare so that it can be mounted on the rear in a pinch without fouling the exhaust (think of it as a classic version of a space saver spare!)

Of course, going to a side outlet would be an option but I like the idea (or at least being able to hear my ideas in my head) of having the quieter rear exit. Loud pipes may save lives, as the Harley guys like to say, but they don't improve the quality of life.

For the Canadian readers ... the book referenced earlier about Sevens and independents, has a chapter for Canada covering the Fejer cars. However, I remember another manufacturer based in Cambridge, Ontario that called theirs the Cambridge Seven. It would have been around the same time ('80s.) Anyone remember those or have info on them?

My Fejer 7 came with Watanabe Wheels which are Japanize and are two different rim width sizes as well, 14" dia. My car came from Japan so having the Watanabe wheels does not seem out of place but Oyagi had a set of Watanabe for sale off his car which is I believe has always been in Canada. They also were of staggared sizes. So at one time the Fejer 7 may have been supplied with Wantanabe wheels

Oyagis' fejer did have watanabe rims, but I seem to remember that he had bought them for track use... His fejer came with konig rims (I remember they looked good) and an old set of spare alloy, datsun/toyota rims I think??? I do love watanabe rims!

The "purchase agreement" list of parts I got emailed to me list the fejer rims as"5 spoked wheels-minilite mag style" but I have pics of 5-6 different fejer cars with different Cheviot brand rims, Cheviot is from australia???

I think the manufacturer you are thinking of is Gary Wolf though I am not sure if he called them Cambridge Seven's or something else. I have a broucher somewhere and should look it up. He built a few 7's around that time and was also doing motorcycle exhausts. I think he has mostly been doing aircraft stuff for some time now.

I know a number of Birkins where built with a rear exhaust, but I believe the common complaint of these is exhaust fumes in the cockpit.

By the way, I'm pretty close by living just south of Cambridge.

My bestfreinds Dad was friends with Gary. He hand fabricated/built all aluminium bodies for his sevens.... They alway talked about that guy, and his work. I guess he is a wizard with metal. He builds airplane exhausts now. My friend remembers being at his shop in Cambridge when he was 4-5yrs old and sitting in a europa.

Gary used to come out this way a lot a few years ago. I had corresponded with him when I was building my Locost, and he took my Locost out for a drive once it was finished. Very knowledgeable and helpful guy. A bit of a wacked sense of humour too!

  • 1 year later...

Just wanted to let the Fejer fans out there know about an interesting one listed on Used Victoria right now. It's an unassembled kit from the 1980s. It's NEVER been assembled and appears to be a complete kit as ordered in the 80s, sans windscreen. I'm not sure how you get around the Transport Canada kit car laws these days, but I think that it's still legal to register u-built cars in BC. It's very interesting to see one in that state and a bit like finding a vintage hobby kit that you never got around to building as a kid. Here's the listing. Not sure how firm he is on the price, but if you're into Fejers this might be the ultimate.
