  1. We've decided to go to Cruising at Spirit of the Suwanee on the 23rd. I've been accumulating parts to build a '27 T woody but need to clarify a few things before I start. It's going to be a hot trip this time of year in the lotus.
  2. We found the older bikers friendly and really good people. It was mostly some of the younger ones who were hostile. I figured they watched too many episodes of Orange County Choppers.
  3. Personally I couldn't care less but it makes my wife feel uncomfortable. You know the saying about if momma isn't happy nobody is happy. We went to a Friday note cruise in a while back. The folks were real clickish. They were polite but didn't really want to answer any questions. I went mainly to get some questions answered about a '27 T woodie I have been collecting parts to build. Never got the answers.
  4. I'm planning on going to the next Daytona Turkey Run but was wondering how the street rod crowd would react to a 7. Showed up at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally one year with a Goldwing trike. Some of the Harley types were insulted that not only did I show up with 3 wheels but they were made in Japan too. Tried to tell them that I was too much of a nonconformist to ride a Harley but they never did understand. The funny part is that I was there the year before with a BMW sidecar rig and they thought it was "kool". If anyone has any tips about the turkey run I would like to hear those also.
  5. I would like to pull a small motorcycle type trailer behind my birkin. There would not be much weight. Need it to carry luggage (i.e. wife's crap) when we go to a multiple day event. Has anyone here installed a hitch on their Birkin?
  6. I have both a corvette and a seven. Thrill factor goes to the seven. Even after a long line of vettes and pony cars the one car I always enjoyed driving on the street was a lowly Tiumph Spitfire. That quirky raw no frills driving experience that only a British sports car can provide.
  7. You wouldn't be from Georgia would you? Sounds like a story I would hear around here.
  8. Actually I am out of the doghouse. We tooled around in it for several hours yesterday until there were too many thunderstorms to avoid. I think she likes it but wont admit it to me.
  9. Already done. I had to wait until the GA insurance database was up again and it sailed right thru.
  10. In GA. The state has a list of documents that it will accept. A binder letter, added to state insurance database, a letter of insurance coverage are all acceptable. I suspect that what I had did not specifically say any of these things they were reluctant to accept them. With jobs hard to find these days they probably do not want to lose theirs. They were as nice as could be but those who made the regulations are really the ones to blame.
  11. Had a copy of the policy and the declarations page. They would not accept either.
  12. Check the Brunton site. The m-spec has a hood option that has different lights that are not pod mounted.
  13. Tried the smart phone. Unless I had a printer hooked up to it it wasn't valid. Their fax machine and the insurance database system were both down.
  14. I already drove it from PA to south GA (900 miles or so). I was just missing the smile.
  15. Only 3 trips to DMV and I have tags. Considering the horror stories I've heard here I am rather pleased at "only" 3 trips.
  16. Second trip to DMV but still no tags. Paid the title tax and applied for the title. They would not accept the insurance cards which by law I have to carry in the car as proof of insurance.
  17. I think I am going to choke the next person who asks me if it is VW powered
  18. The rod runs in this area seem to all be at a restaurant of some kind. Don't like to polish anything but "meet & eat" is a great thing to me. Cruise-ins is what they call these. Most seem to be at decent restaurants with only one or two at fast food places.
  19. Got to thinking about the "hot rod" comment made by several people. To the average person the 7 looks very much like a '27 Track-T. Might have to go to one of the local rod runs and see what reaction I get there.
  20. The is it a kit car question is getting old real fast. I have had some people refer to it as a hot rod. How crude.
  21. Familiar with the biker greeting. I'm a Sturgis and Daytona veteran with many bike miles behind me. Road a Goldwing trike to work year round rain or shine for about 3 years.
  22. Just picked up my car sunday and drove it home which was about an 850 mile trip. Learned several things: 1. Putting the top up means you will just get less wet than if it was down. 2. Us southern boys usually drive barefoot in the summer. Not a good idea in a seven. The floor boards can get hot enough to cause burns w/blisters. Ended up at Wally World to buy some swim shoes so my fat feet wouldn't hit all the pedals at once. 3. Never follow an 18 wheeler. They can go over things that you can not. 4. Do not buy a 7 if you are afraid or do not want to be bothered to talk to people. 5. Do not listen to your spouse when she tells you it looks like a large go cart. 6. Do not listen to your spouse when she tells you that the 4 point harnesses are for amusement park rides, not cars. Also do not inform her that they are to keep heavy objects from flying around the driving compartment. 7. Try not to get depressed when you think that you should have bought one years ago. Gary
  23. The only real problem we had was when I was caught in traffic and an 18 wheeler ran over something that I couldn't. There was a part of a truck tire on the road and by the time I saw it there was no place to go. The only damage was to the splitter in the rear. I had to stop at Lowes to get the correct size torx wrench to get it off. Of course a thunderstorm moved in while I was under the car trying to get the splitter loose. :nopity: Below is a picture taken right After the storm. http://survivalgunsandsupplies.com/birkins3.jpg
  24. Got into some rain today and had to put up the top. Left the doors off so that I could see out the sides. Besides at 70mph the rain just blasts by. Trying to figure out how to post pictures from my android.
  25. Wife is over being mad at me. Stopped early yesterday to wine and dine her.
