Not quite. That's a period Porsche engine. The easiest way to verify is to look at the valve covers. The other items like the oil filter and oil fill could potentially be adapted to a VW with minimal work, but the valve covers are hard to fake. The trans is also a Porsche unit. The mushroom vent is unique to Porsche. Also, not all Spyders came with the Carrera, though I wouldn't doubt that this one is running a 356 or 912 engine.

Me either. I know there's a small market for a specialized version of an already specialized car, but I figured the low price and well thought out construction details would either make it super attractive to someone on the fence, or someone that wanted something slightly different would be willing to modify it and consider it a cheap base to start their own project.

Yep, it's Gene Young's old car. And the only piece of carbon fiber on the car is the top of the pedal box. Apparently it was the first piece of custom carbon Gene vacuum bagged.

Last minute change of plans regarding this weekend. I won't be in San Antonio. I'll be in Ft Worth at a Texas Region Event on July 13th. I'll have it in San Antonio at San Antonio Raceway on July 13th. Next event will be in South East Houston at Gulf Greyhound Park for the Houston-South West Divisonal on July 19-21. I'll have fresh tires on it and can offer test drives at the San Antonio event, or a co-driver arrangement at the Houston event.

Yeah, I occasionally hit cones! Those photos were from the SCCA Dallas National Tour a couple months ago. I tore my ACL two weeks before the event, I walked the course once - on crutches. Plus, I was on 50+ run tires. And that run, the only one I have photos of, was worse that the photos look. I think it was a three-cone run. Give me some more time. I can come up with some more excuses!

Thanks for the compliment. It's been a great car to compete in the last year, but I recently moved and don't have room for all my cars. I've got a half completed D-Prepared Miata and a Lotus Europa that's destined to become an X-Prepared car. I hope folks make use of those photos in their own builds. Locost - Lotus Seven Clone I am selling my Locost autocross racecar, I am building a D-Prepared Miata, so it needs to go.
