these cars are so rare it's nearly impossible to try another one in comparison. it was built in 1990 but it has less than 10,000 miles. i have kangroo moments when very low throttle in 1st.. as i'm idling along in very slow traffic.. but i feel that it's not that unusual. i'm just happy i found out i can get a replacement hood straight from caterham which i'm looking into right now.. thx.

Thanks for the replies. You don't know how much it helps me on a mental level to find out that I'm not the only one this happens to. Someone else on a different forum made it sound I can get a direct replacement from Caterham which I hope is correct. As for my clutch/shifter, I might not be describing it incorrectly. I think it may be because of a light flywheel? I have a Caterham CSR200. I'm pretty sure it's stock from Caterham and has a 6 SPD. Where the clutch pedal engages is correct. It's just I have to keep the revs up and they drop immediately when I'm off the accelerator so leaving in first is a bit tricky as well as the drop between gears. Which is exasperated by the gear shifter being notchy. I watched something on 'top gear' that showed someone having a bit of trouble getting into reverse in a Caterham and I immediate thought 'oh, it's not just my car'. Regardless, thanks again everyone. I'm going to check out that mirror thread. It's curious why someone hasn't come up with a side mirror that slots right into the existing door hinge slots.

i'm looking for the combined experience of the group to help me with a few 'n00b' questions: 1) i think i'm in the need of a new brushed aluminum hood. anyone have any ideas where i could get that? 2) are there mirrors you can buy so you don't need to attach the doors? 3) the clutch is SUPER light making it hard to smoothly roll from a dead start. normal? it's possible that the accelerator is just super sensitive. which brings me to the next thing.. 4) the transmission is super notchy so it's hard to do a fast shift and because the sensitive accelerator? or light flywheel? it's hard to keep the revs in a nice place between shifts so acceleration is not that smooth when going through the gears. normal? 5) i had the soft top blow off on the highway too last year. seems like the buttons don't hold well at high speeds. normal? 6) i screwed in the front windshield (it came with just the short carbon wind deflector installed). just besides the screws, nothing else, correct? worried that might fly off too... o_O IF you're wondering why i need a new hood: I took the caterham out for the first blat of the season.. more to drive it to my mechanic to go over a few small things. disconnected my battery tender, latched on the hood on one side (other side is tight because of bikes in the garage). started her up. reversed out. went into the house to get a few things and let the caterham warm up and off i went. on the highway as soon as i saw the hood flutter i knew i FORGOT to tie down the other side of the hood and just as i started to slow down it flew off! i'm grateful i didn't start an accident but the hood did get run over a couple times. i ran out and retrieved it. bent it back enough to drive on local streets to the mechanic. you can fix the hood.. but you can't fix stupid. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=15241&stc=1

Hi everyone, I'm having trouble deciphering the products on Caterham's site. I'm looking for side mirrors when the windshield is on but the doors are off. I'd assume the posts where you attach the doors is an obvious place to have mirrors attached when not using doors. But I can't seem to find a definitive solution. Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking for an easy not on. Thanks in advance.

good point! never driven a caterham, i hadn't even considered that. being on a motorcycle for the last 25 years has given me a good insight.. but never even considered that might be an issue with driving a caterham. thanks for the info. -

'stand out' for safety reasons? or aesthetic ones? you're right. fiberglass rear fenders. either going to get them wrapped in a good carbon fiber type vinly or get the real deal. -

great advice john. agree with all your points. i think i've decided to keep as it is and then decide if i want to paint it later on. just for comparison sake, here what it would look like in it's current state (not actual car. and the rear fenders would be the bare aluminum) and the blue i was thinking of painting it. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14281&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14282&stc=1 -

thanks everyone. originally i thought i was going to get it painted to the current blue but the seller is telling me that due to the relative rarity of this car that i shouldn't paint it anything that isn't true to the car's specific vintage/year which may be important when/if the time comes to sell. anybody have thoughts on that? http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14280&stc=1 -

thanks guys. very helpful. i spotted the performance numbers too. but just shrugged it off. it'a 11000kms. so about 6800miles. even though i would've loved to put one of these together myself with my son and in my personally chosen spec (ie.260) i agree about the instant gratification comment. i'm not getting younger and who knows if i ever would've ever put in the effort to make that happen. i've already committed so this is just a sounding board to calm my ocd mind. thanks all. -

@Taber10 what do you mean you can't easily reverse the paint/polish? -

thx croc. the car is going to come bare aluminum. which is worrisome to me. seems like it's unprotected .. any experience with this? i've been told this is not a problem and that many caterhams drive around like this. -

i guess what i always assumed is a 'caterham' is a car bought from caterham and that it was of a very specific body type. a lot of those cars have ill-proportions and strange specific parts (compared to what i know as a car from caterham). .. but still learning.. looked at the list again. it actually makes sense. i guess the ones with no '7' in the grill confused me. -

Just so I’m clear, many of these cars called ‘caterham’ aren’t actually caterhams, correct? They shouldn’t be allowed to call them caterhams.. -
Thanks everyone. Great info. Not only is a 620r rare, there would not be one 15 years old that i could import. There is a (non?) official caterham vendor in vancouver but because of canadian import regulations they are kind of frankensteins... not to say they aren’t good. There’s many good reviews,.. but the purist in me really would love to get a ‘caterham’.

Hi everyone. Looking to scratch a 20 year itch when I first saw a lotus 7 in lotus green livery in my then condo parking garage. I finally have the means to do it but coming from Canada it is a bit harder than I hoped. Ideally I could've ordered the kit straight from Caterham. Was thinking I could build it with my young son for 2 reasons: it's be fun to create that kind of accomplishment with him. And give me a reason to convince my wife to spend on the 620R. Alas, looks like the easiest way to import a caterham into Canada is to find one that's 15 years old or older. Which brings me to my 2 noon questions: 1) is there a way to get notified when any new post is made in the 'for sale' channel? So I don't have to constantly check, OCD style? 2) what's the type/naming difference between the Caterhams that have the swooping extended front fenders and the ones with the tighter short fenders that go closely around the wheels? (My preference is the latter)? Bonus) what other repositories should I be monitoring besides here and bring-a-trailer? Thanks guys. I'll be having fun lurking
