  1. That must be where the issue is. When I pushed back the 1/2 (center) rod, it was back to normal... I guess I'll pull it and see whats going on, freshen it up etc....
  2. Good information, thanks all...... I will pull it and see whats up, I was hoping for “just put heavier detent springs in” to solve the problem...lol....Nothing's that simple right????...I'll stop whining..... I don't have a problem rebuilding it, I appreciate the the parts sources and opinions..... the videos are a great resource too, thanks.... more to come, I'm sure....
  3. Having issues with the transmission. Bound up the other day, couldn't move the shifter, seemed to be engaging two gears or ? Took the front cover off and saw the middle selector shaft too far forward exposing all the detent grooves. I pushed it back where it belonged and it works fine. Also my release bearing is occasionally noisy(dry bearing buzz). All I have for info is it is a Ford Cortina close ratio box. No year or model #. I need help identifying the box. Hoping someone can ID it by the picture of the top. 4 bolt cover in front of the shift selector assy. Any ideas on fixing the "bound up" part? Common problem? Etc. supposedly has a new clutch assembly but it has been sitting. I'm thinking after I.D. the transmission I should be able to source a bearing..... Thanks for any help...
  4. That would be them, thank you very much....
  5. wondering where are these sourced, either new or vintage. thanks
  6. so much paint on these wheels...big drip gobs on the back/flange area...can't imagine they were seated well on the hub....2 oz. of paint and then 2oz. of wheel weights...supposedly set up for racing....very poor.. much better now....maybe paint the spokes black at some point, maybe not...
  7. I think I see how it goes....the headlamp would be further forward a lower I think.... I'm willing to try it, pretty sure if they need some mods it wouldn't be alot...
  8. They don't look like they would work. Hard to tell...I'll see if I can find some pictures with them mounted...
  9. Gavin, let me know what you need....I decided not to use the cycle wings, tires and wheels are a bit too wide but, I have another project so..... the mounts look fairly simple to make but if i can save some labor thats a good thing....let me know. Thanks
  10. Yes, 92 907ie, one of a hundred or so in anthracite. Not terribly fast or quick but very engaging to ride and the sound, nothing like it....
  11. didn't mean to post the watch...hit it by accident..not trying to be pretentious...really
  12. Thanks it’s my favorite so far. Haven’t been offered the right trade yet so it sits in my den. Lol.
  13. In the automotive trade for years, owner/operator of a small dealership, taught industrial arts for a bit, adult education, now I am facilities maintenance supervisor for a local school district(lots of benefits). I also buy, restore, trade, sell vintage motorcycles and occasionally vintage cars, I do some pinstripnig, hand lettering, sell a few wood carvings, things like that. Retiring a a year or two/three, so I can do more of the art and things I enjoy.
  14. Hi all....before I hammer out my own, I thought I would ask if anyone has a set of used wing mounts or possibly a pattern/drawing to fab up myself. TIA
  15. For what it's worth, I stripped the bonnet on my 68 recently. It's not a Caterham but a certain amount of paint prep is required anyway you look at it. Mine was factory painted and a subsequent repaint at some point. I won't do that again and the rest of the car will get a repaint. Got through many coats of paint and primer only to find a skim coat of hardened body filler, entirely covering the bonnet. Nothing I had would soften it so I carefully sanded it all off. I found the original bare metal to be sub par, almost as if they painted the "factory seconds" and saved the primo ones for bare finish, which makes sense. Lots of deep scratches from the original prep, jagged edges on the louvers etc. I worked it a lot and it just isn't going to look good bare. Again, not sure how Caterham would do this but it's bound to be a chore. I can't imagine stripping the rest of my car given what I found on the bonnet, only to find it isn't in great shape after all that.
