  1. Thanks! I called the number on the website and it has become spam. So I guess they have shut down. But I appreciate the rely!
  2. Can anyone recommend a shop in my area that has experience working on Caterhams? I realize that basic maintenance and small repairs can be done by any competent mechanic, but I would like to know of a shop I could rely on if anything more serious or complicated comes up. Thanks!
  3. By the way Croc, that list of cars you have, is it current? Looks like quite the menagerie!
  4. Thanks for this. My car is at a Caterham dealer right now and if the Caterham fix is effective it seems the wisest thing would be to have it done before I take delivery. Now I have to count the days until it arrives.
  5. thanks! the first one is one that looked interesting, but the reviews said it was difficult to adjust, which is not a big deal in an aircraft application where a single heading is kept for a long time. The third option looks like it might be a good choice if I can figure out a way to attach it that works and doesn't look awful. What I want is a simple visor that I can raise or lower, just like a normal car.
  6. I agree it would be odd for identical cooling systems to behave so differently from car to car. Croc, the two that you know that had the fix, did they get the PGM fix, or the Caterham fix? I can't seem to get any information on the effectiveness of the Caterham fix.
  7. Thanks for this, I joined and started a discussion on the cooling issue. Very helpful information. I am exploring the fix offered by PMG but still researching. I'm waiting to hear back from Caterham about the fix that they offer, what it involves and what it costs. All things being equal, I would prefer a fix provided by the manufacturer, but I cannot determine if the Caterham fix is effective. Or if I really need it at all. There was one 620 owner in the thread who said his car operated at a normal temperature without any fix. So, I don't want to fix something that isn't broken. Others in the thread indicated that ALL 620s have an overcooling problem until fixed.
  8. So, I heard back from Caterham re: the overcooling issue in the 620. It was very interesting. First, they are aware of the problem. They say that it only happens on some of the 620s, not all, but they have made a modification to recent builds that is intended to address the problem. The most interesting thing is that they say they have not had a single case of an overcooling 620 reported from outside the UK. Which begs the question, why? They did not offer an explanation. The did suggest, rather obliquely, that if the problem occurred in my car, they would offer assistance. I have asked the seller to find out exactly what the fix is, and if it is not terribly expensive I'm going to have it done before I take delivery. This is my toy, and I do not want to be worried about trying to chase down a known issue instead of just driving and enjoying. I will report back what I find. Thanks again to all here who have helped me with getting from the crazy idea of owning a Caterham to actually owning one. This is a good forum.
  9. Thanks much for this! I am decidedly not a pro race car driver. LOL. I will definitely look into the Porterfield pads, they sound like the perfect solution.
  10. I wear a ballcap so when the sun is overhead it is not a problem. But when it is low on the horizon, it is painful. I googled as you suggested and didn't come up with any solutions that seemed viable. But I am going to figure something out, because I want to have sun visors. A simple solution would be a visor assembly with a suction cup on both ends, but the only thing I found that was close was an aviation solution that only had a cup on one end. That would surely fly off in a Caterham. My buddy has a Superformance Cobra with sun visors, I'm going to start with seeing if they could be adapted to a Cat. And I ordered what Caterham calls a Bikini Top. I should have looked for aftermarket tops first, I am sure I overpaid by a bunch. But too late, I placed the order.
  11. Thank you much for this. I have on my list to ask about the composition of the brake pads, and that does seem to be a simple fix. And good to know no one does boosters. Thanks again.
  12. And my car has one. :-)
  13. Not sure I understand what you mean here. Install what? If you mean a 12V socket, it has one.
  14. Now that I have one coming, more questions pop up. I guess no need to start a new thread. My first one, is there some workaround for not having sun visors on the windshield? Staring into the sun or even keeping my head down for a long time is pretty miserable. Second one, had anyone tried adding a booster to the braking system? The only thing I really didn't like during the test drive was how hard I had to stomp the pedal to stop. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but still thinking of ways to make the car more drivable. Can you use the 12v socket to trickle charge the battery? Is it "on" when the key is off?
  15. I have the seller testing the car for overcooling, and also in touch with Caterham to see if whatever fix is available has already been applied to this car. Hope to either know that my car is not affected, or have the fix in place before I take delivery.
  16. Thanks for that. Lots of reading there.
  17. Thanks for the heads up. I did some reading. Do you know if there are specific parameters that would tell me if I have that problem with my car, that is, a temperature range that is out of spec? I read that Caterham had a fix that they were charging 1000 pounds for but that seems a bit cheeky if it is a known issue. I'll be sure to address this before completing the paperwork.
  18. I was surprised that it didn't seem that weird to shift with my left. I don't think it will be an issue.
  19. Here she is! Assuming my uploading works.
  20. Welp, I skipped the entire build process and purchased a very slightly used 620S from Hillbank in LA. It was almost exactly what I was looking for, color and everything, and I didn't want to wait. I flew out last week and drove it, and made a deal I was satisfied with. Take delivery first week of March. I'm excited as hell. Just in time for Spring driving. :-)
  21. Apologies for this late reply. Can you expand on that a bit? Is the LHD pedal box smaller or larger?
  22. same problem here. I managed it because I am a side sleeper. So when I sleep on a plane I put one bud in the ear that is opposite the pillow and when I wake up to roll over I switch earbuds. That way one is charging while I'm using the other. I use AirPods pro II
  23. Yeh, I drove an Atom a couple years ago. It was just too raw for me. But I loved parts of it.
  24. Eek! If I a get a build in 2024, with that math I may be too old to drive it when it gets to me!
