  1. I just had a full hood. Given lack of luggage space, and unpredictable weather along the route, I needed to have a full hood (especially for parking overnight). Having some shade together with a breeze would have been nice. I'm tempted to get one of the roll bar mounted bags for the hood to free up some of the trunk space. Being 6'3", the hood makes a "fun" entry and exit so tended to avoid using it as much as possible. On a fast moving road, without the hood, the breeze was just about ok even with the high heat but coming into LA traffic was pretty tough. It did feel good getting into my first car after 3 weeks in the Caterham and experiencing AC again! I did also think my steering was broken on my regular car but it just took a while to get used to power steering again! :-)
  2. Shame to miss you on the route. I finished my trip and made it all the way to LA - a little over 3500 miles (with the Boston leg). Was a great trip. Had a little detour up to Vegas. Highlight of the trip, driving wise, was the mountain pass going into Oatman. If I wasn't if a time crunch, I'll probably have repeated that section :-). The town/village of Oatman was amazing to. Ended up with a little bit of sun burn on the last couple of days but generally did pretty well. The 7 was amazing. Everyone always asked if I was comfortable - I'd tell them my back was genuinely better than it was when I started! No major issues on the trip. Somehow lost the "7" grill on the nose cone somewhere around Oklahoma - not sure if it fell off or was stolen and the nut holding the door fastener on drivers side fell off. The door pins didn't like highway speeds and tended to vibrate up and out of place. But otherwise a pretty smooth journey! Now I just need to trip down 3 weeks of 360 video footage from the trip!
  3. Hi All, I acquired a 420R late summer last year and am now relocating from Boston to LA. I decided to do a route 66 road trip with my car (Boston to Chicago, then route 66 to LA). I've just made it to St Louis so one state down (+ MA, PA, OH and NY getting to Chicago). Couple of questions: Anyone done this before and have any recommendations on places to stop and visit? I'll generally planning 24 hours ahead and finding a hotel towards the end of the day. Its worked out pretty well so far! :-) Any thoughts on traveling through the "hot states"? Particularly New Mexico and Arizona. I'm not sure how sparse those sections will be but obviously I'll pack extra water, top up gas more frequently and keep close eye on engine temps. Any other suggestions/prep anyone recommends? While doing this as a once in a life time trip, I'm also raising money for charity at the same time. On the off chance, anyone is interesting in sponsoring, my donation page is https://charity.pledgeit.org/road2resolve Thanks
  4. Hi! I'm about 2 months into ownership of a new Caterham 420R. Something I've been waiting for for 20 years! Thrilled to have it! I'm in the Boston area and looking for any recommendations who can help service the car whenever needed. Greg at Time Machines is great but its a long way to go whenever small stuff is needed. I'm looking to tinker with the car myself but looking for experts at the same time. I was thinking of calling either a few British speciality mechanics in the area or perhaps mechanics focus on Ford engines. Ideally I'd love to find someone who knows what a Caterham is and has worked on them before. Thanks Chris
