  1. So I've been on a mission to reduce wind buffetting on my outboard ear.

     

    I took the standard caterham wind deflectors and bent them outward.

     

    Then I added 4 inch extensions. That helped a bit. It moved the buffeting epicentre back a few inches.

     

    I then swapped out the extensions for 6 incvh versions. Interestingly that did not make a difference. I would have thought that it would move the wind epicentre back further. Now I'm wondering if the source is more the top corner of the windscreen.

     

    Perhaps there is a vortex at that point that is unaffected by the size of the wind deflector.

     

    I would prefer to run without a half hood.

     

    I once met a guy who had a device that directed air from the toip of the screen down into the cabin. He said that this negated the negative pressure wave within the cabin.

     

    Anyways, the modification experiment continues.

     

     

    Ideas?

  2. I have been struggling with too loud an exhaust on my xflow kent.

     

    I kept an eye out on blatchat for sale and picked up a used version of the Rover race exhaust for 100 GBP. Of course with shipping it ended up costing about $300, but the difference is amazing. Its a direct bolt on replacement for the crossflow silencer and is 6 inches wide.

     

    Much nicer!

  3. Would adding some rubber grommets or pads between the seat rail and the chassis rails on the mounting bolts to dampen vibration risk the structural rigidity of the seat mounting itself?

     

    I'm always on the search for ways to increase highway comfort to make long trips less taxing.

     

    I would not choose this option if it creates a greater risk of the seat tearing out in an accident.

  4. I just got back from a great vacation in Maui. We did the (in)famous Road to Hana trip.

     

    The road has over 600 hair-pin turns and 59 single lane bridges. Lots of folks reach a certain point and turn back once they see the road turn to dirt.

     

    However 10 miles later (once out of cattle territory) it turns into this incredible twisty road with perfect pavement and no traffic. The crashing ocean one one side and rolling hillsides on the other. It felt like the mountain course at the Isle of Man TT. It must be the site of many of your favourite car commercials.

     

    I was dreaming of having my seven.

     

    PS - add Maui to the bucket list. It is 100% worth the trip!

     

    If/when I retire, I will be spending part of it in Maui = surfing/snorkeling/hiking/star gazing/driving/doing nothing

  5. Now I understand why you are considering this.

     

    The idea that your hobby car has to meet emissions standards is so frustrating.

     

    I admit to having the same challenge. The solution I deal with every 2 years involves the handing over of a small envelope of cash to a shady guy from the Balkans.

     

    I don't feel good about it when it happens. I just don't have a choice. I'm stuck with it until 2020 when my car hits 30 years old and becomes exempt.

     

    I hope EFI gets you what you need. I fear that the gap will be too much to bridge. When I put my weber carb'd car on the rollers the numbers were way off the scale.

     

    This may sound nuts, but maybe you should consider a Zetec swap. With a Zetec you could get EFI and a CAT.

  6. The other night over a few pints, a friend and I extoled the virtues of analog versus digital world. The carb versus FI. Tube versus transister.

     

    Then today I see that the Porsche GT3 only comes with an automatic! WTF.

     

    I know it is to compete with all of the paddle shift super cars. I think this is a step too far.

     

    Where is the connection to the past? GT3 owners should be thinking 917 not Bugatti Veyron.

     

    Where is the recognition of the manly joys of getting a down shift right. The challenge of learning heel and toe?

     

    I'm so sad by this change. I appreciate that technology makes it faster. 470 normally aspirated HP is incredible. However the driver interface needs to stay "analog". What's next, automated steering? Are we going to end up fat slobs riding around checking our text while Porsche drives us around in a fully autonomous 2020 GT3?
