I could use a little guidance here as my electrical knowledge is just enough to get me in trouble. I purchased a Pertronix Digital Rev Limiter to install on my 96 Caterham. Most of the wiring is pretty basic - positive and negative to the coil and a ground wire. The last wire is the one I am unsure of and have gotten conflicting answers on. It is listed as "tachometer output". I've been told it goes to the alternator (but not where) or to tie into the center of the three wires on the back of the VDO tach. Two dissimilar answers requires me to contact you guys for help. On second thought I should have posted here to begin with :willy_nilly:. Thanks in advance for any input. I posted this first under general discussion, sorry.

The date code on the tires is 2203 giving them a 2003 mfg date. Would someone give me an idea what these tires are realistically worth. I've had offers and while I don't mind giving a bloke a deal I don't want to get hosed either. Thanks. Oh yeah - how about the correct tire pressure for street driving with 205-50-15 Yoko A048. Thanks again.

I'll check the mfg date as soon as I'm back home on Tues.

Selling 5 Avon CR500 195-45-15 tires with 500+- street miles on them. Tires are like new with minimal tread wear and the spare never on the ground. Tires in central CT but I can ship. Cost will depend destination. I honestly don't know what they're worth so PM me an offer and get them out of my garage. The tires came on the car I bought a couple of months ago but I wanted something a little bigger and just had the new ones mounted today.

Many thanks to all and be trying these fixes as soon as I'm back at home.

I guess I was too quick in hoping my problems were over. (See thead http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3988). Still not running right. Maybe a little more detail will help identify the issue. I replaced the magnetic pickup for the electronic ignition and there was improvement. The thing is, where the car previously ran a little rough at lower RPMs it would quickly smooth out and rip to the redline. Now the the car is relatively smooth at low RPMs but runs rough under load and at higher RPMs. The car idles fine and starts easily. The carbs still spit and snap although not as much and there is still some backfires, usually when I shut off the engine. I hope I'm not being a pain but any help would be appreciated before I send the car out.

I'd like to thank everyone for their input and ideas. Today I finally had a chance to work on the car and found 1 plug not firing. After checking the plugs and wires it turned out the magnetic pick up for the Pertronix electronic ignition was starting to separate at a seam. I tried to cheap out with a little super glue. It looked good enough and ran much better but not under load. I replaced the pick up and all is well. Thanks again to all.

I've had my 7 for a couple of weeks and have had 500 trouble free miles. It's a Wenz built Cross Flow that I was told would not be very street friendly. Yesterday when I was halfway through a 70 mile trip the engine suddenly started acting up. The carbs were popping and snapping and the car was backfiring. Rough running regardless of RPM. It made it home but it was ugly. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions. I can do a lot of mechanical but not carbs. If someone could point me in the direction of a good resource or knows of a shop in CT qualified to work on it. Thanks.

Thanks for the tips everyone and thanks Gary for the link to Summit Racing. Would some post a link for a Caterham parts supplier? I need a few odd bits and don't know who to go to.

I hope this is not a stupid question but is there any way to mitigate the heat in the pedal box? I've just finished my first long ride of about 80 miles and it got pretty hot in there. Granted I was wearing leather driving shoes with no socks but it still seemed excessive. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Great find. I've just ordered one. Thanks.

My experience with Caterhams is limited so this opinion is from a relative novice. The car is little rough at low rpms but as it get going it smooths right out and then, man does it fly. I do know a little about speed and I'm impressed. I don't know if all cross flows run like this so I can't say for sure this is God's own or not. Right now it's Sean's own. When I figure how to keep the rear end in line I'll bet the driveability will be just fine.

Martin: That's a Scout outside. The Bronco is on the lift and the 71 Mini is with me at the beach in RI As for a morning blat - I have a repair plate I can put on the car now. The state can wait - I can't!

The bike is a 1965 BMW R50/2 with the Earls Fork. The Earls Fork just means it is the Euro version set up to receive a sidecar. I've a funny feeling the bike is going to be sitting a lot more than its used to.

Does that mean I won't need to start buying upgrades? Sean

Tom: Close - its a 74 TR6. I thought that was fun to drive until today. Sean L

At 11AM EST I took possession of my 1996 Caterham. I immediately threw a plate on it to go for a ride. OMFG!!! Now I understand the reason for the level of passion in the posts I've been reading. I get it and now I've got one! Bruce: Did you have any problems with the CT DMV registering your 7?

Hi Bruce: Did you have any trouble registering the Cat with CT DMV? I'm just curious as to what kind of grief I may be in for. Thanks, Sean

I bought the car from Tom O. in Marshall, VA and I split my time between Manchester, CT and Weekapaug, RI . I'd love to hear from any 7 owners in the area to find out when they get together

The wheels are 15 X 6.5 with Avon CR 500 tires. I just bought the car on eBay. I overpaid a bit but the car is exactly what I had been looking for (and dreaming about). As I write, the car is winging its way from VA to my home in CT. Can't wait to drive it.http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486239_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486265_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486300_o.jpghttp://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/9/5/0/4/3/webimg/275486385_o.jpg

I've just purchased my first Seven. The car has Mini-Lites with low profile tires that appear too small. Can anyone help me out with some suggestions as to size as well as brand? Thanks. Sean L
