14's on mine also.
For the road I run 185/60/14 DUNLOP DIREZZA star spec 2's.......LOVE them.
Nicer on "road" than the AO48's i had on before. Softer side walls allow the tire to work on rougher surfaces and the car dosnt skip around as much. Ultimate grip may be lower but i prefer them.

Unfortunately that Kumho is no longer available in the US.
-John
Thanks john , i didnt know that.
You can however get them mail order from Demon Tweeks.

Kumho V70A 175 front -215 rear on those rims.
Toyo 888s are available in 185 for the front and 205 or 225 for the rear.
Aspect ratios are between 60 for the fronts and 45 for the rears.

I run 200 in the Direzza Star Spec 2 in a skinny 185 size. Car weighs just over 600kg with me in it and only has about 160hp.
I love it. Great tyres for the road. I can feel the car move around on them and they are very predictable. Prefer them to the Yoko AO48s i had. On track unless its very wet , forget it. I use Avon ACB10's for that. Sometimes more grip is not as much fun.

Bummer!
Im sure all z4's are perfect.
I hope when its all fixed that it all comes together for you and you can experience what the car has to offer.

From a safety point of view ........how do you get out of a gullwing style hardtop in a roll over?
-
I find the putty or roll up foam ones always come loose and so use one of these, It goes around the back of your head , not over top.

Cheap and i leave it hung over the gear lever. Easy to put on one handed when turning onto a freeway etc. Low speed i dont use it at all.
I also find its the wind that is the problem more than the exhaust.
There is also the Peltor ear muffs that are worth looking at. If i was doing a big trip thats what i would buy. Not into helmets on the road.

I have a slightly more personal take on this..........I build bicycle frames for a living and work very hard to promote and establish my brand. I've had a few folks ask me for stickers with my logo to put on bikes they own........bikes I didn't make. I understand this is a compliment of sorts in that they want to be associated with my brand but at the same time it can give the wrong impression. If folks look at the brand X bike with my logos on it and aren't impressed that reflects on me and all my hard work is for naught.
Combine that with the fact that there is some low level dishonestly with it all IMO. Homage sure........but it's still giving a false impression.
I have a Westfield on the way and it will get Westfield badges.....unless i put my brand name on it

dave
I agree Dave.
Cant understand how some can justify a blatant copyright infringement.
Guys (who think its fine to put the LOTUS brand name on something they built themselves ) Please look at it from the other side for a second.
You produce a product that is highly regarded and comes at a premium price. Some guy down the road makes a copy , better or worse dosnt matter , and puts your brand logo on it. NO question you are going to be PISSED! Also from another point if you make a clubman style car or "7" as you guys call them and someone replace your logo with another , again you are going to be PISSED!
Its wrong. If you want a Lotus 7 then buy a Lotus 7.
No way would i disrespect the maker of my car by trying to pass it off as a Lotus.
ps love that rant icon ...very cool

Tim (Timax) - I like how you laid out your dash. How did you do the switch labeling on your dash? Is it one of those Canon P-Touch things or something else?
Its from PRB . A place that prints name badges or door badges could do it. Like these guys... http://www.imprintplastic.com.au/

Not the most informative angle but here's the dash of my Caterham which features the usual layout from the factory.

Very Nice! Any more pics?

Wrong side I know. My left hand covers the Oil Presure but i do have a warning light. Right hand covers the Fuel. I think the SPA duel gauges would be handy for us with limited room.

Id let the car do the talking. Have a Brunton Super Stalker badge or a stylized "Super Stalker" badge on the rear. All the specs are too production car. Otherwise where do you stop. " 6 speed , LSD , SS, Sport, 24V,NOS etc etc. Who cares. Leave that to the BMW x5 Msport 50D ,Evo VIII MR FQ-400, Impreza STI RA Spec-C type drivers
-
Completely lame putting a Lotus badge on any of these cars IMO
.
Totally agree. A lotus 7 is a Lotus 7 but a Birkin is not.
When people ask me what my car is i just say "FAST"

When pressed though its "based on a 1960's lotus 7 but built here in Aus" No way i could call it a Lotus.
Here is Australia these kind of cars are collectively known as "Clubmans" after the race category they were built for. Lotus is just one of many makers but the first.

Worlds fastest what? Production car? When you need to use a NASA runway to test the speed then who cares? Most of the rest of the world would be more interested to see how quick it is around the Nurburgring. Might have to google that one to see if they have taken one there. Looks great though.
-
That looks more like a movie set than reality! Are you sure its not on the filming of the next James Bond Film? Crazy stuff
-
Why did you buy your 7?
For fun or laptimes? If its for fun then who cares. Run it with what does it for you.
Me , i like high reving screamers and so a 1600 Cosworth BDA would be my pick .
What ever puts a bigger smile on your face is the best engine despite what a stopwatch or anyone on the forum says.

I thought the original idea of the clamshell was (in addition to classic styling) to keep crap off the car and drivers elbow. This method doesn't mitigate either situation and would seem to simply add weight without any benefit. It looks interesting though.
He would be racing in a class where he has to run clam shells. Just one of those guys who has to test the rules to the extreme.

Maybe wrap the joint in some silver foil tape and see if that prolongs the service life.
-
Imagine how that would be with interference . Mobile phones , Those huge electricity towers and even the radio. I recon your horn would beep every time you got a text message. Wireless is great in theory but id rather trust a coily cable.

The whole issue of non practicing is a non issue, people either are or their not. If you put a BMW badge on a Ford, its still a Ford not a non practicing BMW.
I agree , you either are or not. However on my Birth Certificate im listed as being "Church of England" yet im a non believer. In the stats im counted as a Christian.
Your final comment is more about my religion.

While a BMW badge on a ford may be a Sacrilege to a few. It seems in the USA especially, LOTUS badges adorn many cars that have never been anywhere near a lotus factory. Total Blasphemy!
Religion is always an interesting subject. Im totally selfish in that I travel for religion yet i am not at all religious.
Religion has shaped the world as we know it today. Culture and architecture are what takes me to ...Srilanka , India , Laos , Vietnam , Nepal etc etc. This time last year i was at the " Kumbh Mela" in India.
Look that one up for some amazing images.
I take from religion with passion yet i give nothing back.
So for me although i dont agree with your first statement about Christianity itself , if you included ALL religions i would have to agree.
The world would be bland without them.
Have a great New Year and believe in what ever you feel passionate about without prejudice .
Regards Tim

70% of the world are not christian. Of the 30% that are , many are not practicing. I dont think you will find too much support with your first statement.
Doing a quick "Wiki" on Religious wars ,of the 6 major ones mentioned, Christians were involved with every one of them.
So "a much worse place " without christianity? How do you think that, im interested.

Very similar to what i came up with which is to tape down a mic to a foam block on the passenger floor. Then tape a bowl over top of the mic. Steel bowl gives a different sound to plastic so experimentation is needed. I was using a Zoom H4N with a Sure Mic and also the Zoom alone. It works well but the complexity is silly for anything less than pro use. Gave a good mix of exhaust and engine but a little too much gearbox.
What i use now is like most people , a lav wrapped in foam stuck just behind my windscreen. Gets a good reflection of the exhaust with a little bit of engine and some wind. But i like that as its closer to what im hearing inside my helmet.
One thing i would like to try is a helmet mic to pick up even closer to what i hear plus some commentary or more likely laughter and expletives. Its usually one or the other isnt it?

:)Bruce , "TIMAX, I challenge your presumption that the fellow in the old Porsche, while being lapped by the driver in the new Porsche, is wearing a silly grin precipitated by spectacular enjoyment."
You need to go out to the next Historic meet in your home town and tell all those drivers of old cars not to enjoy themselves so much and that the modern equivalents of their steed could whip their ass.
"
If he is even trying to catch the new Porsche, that expression is a death mask anticipating his demise at the next hot corner."
Why would anyone expect to be able to or even try to keep up. Thats not the point.
"I do not argue that pushing an old Porsche can be a raw, visceral experience, but so is cutlass fighting, and I'm not fond of that, either. "
Its the raw experience i LOVE of my 7 and others of other great drivers cars like the Buggati Type 35, Ferrari 250 and 275 series , Cobras , Canam cars , nascar etc etc. Sounds like your getting soft!
"You can still have fun with bigger, and I'm not taking this line any further."
I will , sure i agree but these days its at much higher speeds and usually when on road, at speeds that we will be locked up for.
"If you're like me (and therefore certainly no poser), you prefer the handling of Sevens."
I am a poser. Click on my link below and you can see i enjoy a good looking car. But Im not a Porsche guy. Never have been. Although i do have to bow to the most winingest marque of all time. You dont get that because they are a crap car. Early 911's have a cult following like no other so i assume they must put a smile on someones face.
Bruce , car guys as we are come in all sizes. Some like to go straight , others like it tight and twisty and others like doing in the dirt. I would think ultimate laptime at the local track would be well down the list of most otherwise we would all be driving new skylines. Yikes!

Is bigger , faster , more comfortable ,really better? Im guessing that being into the Lotus 7 design many on here would think not.
So think about your local Sunday morning windy road. Without breaking any speeding laws which one of the above Porsches would be more fun? If you really think the latest turbo supercar will actually be a more rewarding drive i would say your more a poser than driver. On track anything can be fun when its sorted and your on the limit but i bet the guy in the 1960's porsche driving at the limit is going to have a bigger grin than the Turbo driver who just lapped him without even trying. Its all about fun isnt it? Thats why i drive what i do.
