  1. I've had 3 retinal detachments and multiple floaters. One detachment procedure was the variety that removed the vitreous fluid with the repair, removing the multiple floaters in that eye. However, the other eye had a very serious floater that was driving me nuts (and driving my driving nuts) - so bad that there was no way to ignore it. I chose to have a Vitrectomy procedure on that eye. It carries some risk of detachment, especially for someone like me, but I took the chance. The results where removal of the vitreous fluid in that eye (replaced by new fluid) and I CAN SEE AGAIN! There is hope. Find a well-respected surgeon in your area and have a heart to heart talk with him about the risks and the potential gain. I wish you the best.
  2. So, no one has these for sale? Is it always design and fabricate?
  3. Have '95 Classic with Zetec (Raceline wet sump) - most street use. I'm running about 3" clearance at the sump and that may drop slightly with R888 purchase. I would like to hear recommendations for a sump guard and where to source. Has a guard saved anybody a major repair? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for responses! Especially thanks for tire pressures for R-compound tires. I'm going to go with R888 205/50/15 and 225/45/15 (both on the 7" rims). What is the best source/type sump guard?
  5. I currently have 195/55/15 (23.4" dia) on 15x7 rims. I have 3" clearance at the sump and have no issues with this setup. It is a '95 Classic (live axle) with Zetec (not sure of HP: Ford racing head, Kent cams, Jenvey throttle bodies, etc) and Quaife differential. I'd like to get R888s with 205/50/15 front (23.0" dia) and 225/45/15 rear (22.8" dia). This would drop road clearance at the front of the car 0.2" and the rear 0.3". This is mostly for street. Some questions: Do you think the clearance at the sump is adequate with the slight drop? I assume those sizes will be fine (I need more rubber in the rear). What kind of pressures are you running with R888s? Will I notice a dramatic increase in stone throwing with these tires versus high performance summer rubber? I also have a gorgeous set of 13x7 polished Minilites but I think the 205/60/13 (22.6" dia) would be getting it too low at the sump, although big advantages in weight. I only want one set of wheels/tires. Thanks for the help!
  6. I have a '95 Caterham. The car came with a set that are never used (I don't have a top). What are you willing to pay? If you're interested and we can agree on a price, I can get them out and look them over carefully but I believe they're is beautiful shape. My e-mail is steinmanan@xenos.org - that would be a better way to communicate.
  7. My agent seemed to be pretty flexible about who the expert is. A title like "Administrator, USA7s" would likely be fine. Anyone?
  8. All I need is someone with an official sounding title, like an administrator of USA7s or the head of some Sevens club. If you are such or know someone who might be able to help, please let me know by e-mailing me at steinmanan@xenos.org. My insurance is asking for an independent appraisal. Up to now, they've accepted my stated value but now want the appraisal. I will send specs and pictures via e-mail Monday. The Caterham should be fairly easy to appraise by any knowledgeable person on this website. Thanks so much. Andy
  9. What are my options to eliminate the spare tire and not have the carrier bracket sticking out? I'd like to know what others have done and a picture of the results if possible, including license plate and light. Thanks...
  10. Caterham sells a SPA carbon fiber mirror like the one in the first picture above but with a custom shorter stem. I tried the one pictured and it blocked my vision too much. I went with the mount from the SPA normally used for their side view mirrors and it is much better although I'd like it to be an inch or two higher.
  11. Jerry: I'm going to give the new owner some contacts, yours being perhaps the most important. You were so helpful and patient answering my non-mechanically minded questions and I think you have better documentation and know more about Ultralites than almost anyone. I truly appreciated you help. I only regret not meeting you in person. The new owner is in Houston.
  12. Thanks to all who expressed interest in the car. It sold quickly. I had two back-up offers and perhaps a third. The new owner should be smiling upon delivery.
  13. Steve and Jim: thanks to you both for your kind comments. Jim, your estimate on investment is right on the money. My sump was an option from Brian that provides a bit more ground clearance - it is not a dry sump. I believe this is a fairly common extra cost option and as you know, there have been no reports to my knowledge of any engine issues with the extensive racing of S2Ks. The rearview mirror is a SPA carbon fiber mirror that matched the side mirrors. However, it was not a great mounting location and tended to vibrate because it was not mounted on a strong point of the fiberglass. Also, the height blocked my vision every now and then. It would be far better to mount a rear view mirror anchored to the dash but it would probably require a custom mount.
  14. Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, Brian Anderson built the car and delivered it personally to Columbus, Ohio. The car is registered as a 2006 (it came with a Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin). I would ship it to Canada - is there some issue I should know about in shipping it to Canada? As for heat in the cockpit, please note that the exhaust on an Ultralite is on the passenger side and not the driver's side like a Zetec in a Caterham or Birkin. I have added insulation but like any Seven, the foot well gets warm. I'd be happy to answer any other questions. Again, the best way to contact me is by e-mail: steinmanan@xenos.org. Thanks...
