AndyB Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I dropped off the car yesterday and by late afternoon they had confirmed my findings. Low compression on all cyls, exhaust valves leaking on 2 & 3. So today they will pull the engine and strip it. Hopefully the Dave Bean catalogue arrives soon and we can put together our shopping list. I have a feeling this is going to hurt my wallet :grouphug:
Paul Hill Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Who would the "the" be Andy? I'm sure others here would be interested in knowing who you considered trustworthy to perform such surgery. I seem to recall someone asking for a recommendation in the Toronto area....
AndyB Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Van Holst Automotive in Kitchener are doing the re & re and Twin City is the machine shop. I found them through a friend of a friend who just had his Elan motor rebuilt by them. I came to the conclusion there was no inexpensive way to rebuild a twin cam, there may be a cheap method but that way could result in doing it twice.
AndyB Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Hey Twobone what make are your harness/seat belts, is the top mount a wrap around and did you buy them in Canada?
twobone Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I bought them directly from the factory: Schroth belts Model: Profi ASM 4 point They have a patented approach to energy release in an accident which is suppossed to make a major difference in injury. Make sure you get the correct seat side as the belt energy release system only exists on one of the two shoulder belts. I managed to loop the shoulder harness belts thru the existing harness loops at the top behind the seats. The lap belt anchor bolts threaded into the existing mount holes in my chassis. I really like the twisting release mechanism. Its easy to use http://www.schrothracing.com
AndyB Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Ouch! I never thought about the cost of these things, $900 Canadian + shipping and maybe duties if I'm unlucky.
twobone Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 This was the kind I bought I beleive.....closer to $400-$500 http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/schroth-competition-belts/profi-asm/profi-ii-asm
