frizille Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Hi all, I'm in the process of prepping a new Duratec 2L crate engine for my build (Roadsport 175). The wire in the center of the pic linked below I believe comes out as I remember reading somewhere the knock sensor isn't used. Is that correct? Pic: http://danielfrye.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/2015-02-02-18.47.43.jpg Thanks! Dan
1turbofocus Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Yes the black piece with the 2 wires is the knock sensor , if your running the stock Ford ECU this is a must to use , if your using a aftermarked ECU then your timing is a best guess The knock sensor from the Ford Focus is extremely accurate , why kit builders use any other ECU then stock is beyond me Which ECU do you have ? Tom
frizille Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Whatever Caterham put on the car; don't believe its a stock Ford ECU. Thanks!
1turbofocus Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I have seen both stock ECU and aftermarket , if stock keep the knock sensor , if not I am sure there not using a quality enough ECU to support a knock sensor and remove it If you shoot me a picture of the ECU I can tell you if it is stock or not Tom
