2015 “Locost” 7 - $15,000

Homebuilt Lotus 7 clone inspired by Ron Champion’s book Build Your Own Sportscar.

Frame was constructed in accordance with instructions and diagrams in the book. All welds have been inspected and are solid.

Rear suspension is live axle with upper and lower radius arms and panhard rod and front is unequal length A-arms with adjustable Gaz coilover shocks all around. Nylon suspension bushings all around.

Steering rack and pinion are from a VW Rabbit with billet aluminum front hubs.

Brakes are Wilwood 4 pot calipers/vented disks in front with new Toyota disks rear with rear antilock module and new pads all around.

Engine/Drivetrain is Toyota AE86 1600 cc 16 valve 4 cylinder, 5 speed transmission and rear axle (Donor car was 1986 Corolla GTS). Engine was overhauled, blueprinted, and mildly “massaged” by Total Precision Engines, with all internals replaced or renewed and assembled with ARP fasteners. Port type fuel injection with 260cc injectors and ignition are controlled by kit built Megasquirt user programmable ECU with direct coil control and dual coils with wasted spark ignition. ECU is programmable via serial cable and Tuner Studio software, which also controls electric cooling fan and TVIS secondary intake passages. Stage II clutch installed with lightweight flywheel/ARP bolts.

Complete VDO gauge set.

Lockable glove box and rear “boot”

Footwell heater with 3 speed fan.

Fiberglass snout, fenders, cowl.

Kirkey Racing aluminum seats with 5 point harness for driver and 4 point for passenger.

Weighs 1300 # wet with estimated 170 bhp. It scoots.

Since it’s done now, it’s time to free up garage space for my next (undetermined) project.

It’s probably not suitable for owners weighing more than 180 # with more than 36 inch waist, as the seats are a “press fit” for me at 165# and 33 inch waist.

Good AM,

Thanks for your interest.

1. It has a Colorado "Assigned VIN" and motor vehicle title and license. It is fully street legal with signals, lights, horn, and even a windshield wiper.

2. It's located in Gunnison, CO.

I can send more photos if you'd like a closer look at anything.

John
