Mr Mark
Hi all....before I hammer out my own, I thought I would ask if anyone has a set of used wing mounts or possibly a pattern/drawing to fab up myself. TIA
gpalmer77
I have a set..... my 93 S3 had been changed from clamshells to cycle wings in the past and I was given the old parts, a set of damaged clamshells and what appear to be mounting brackets for them. Mr Mark
Gavin, let me know what you need....I decided not to use the cycle wings, tires and wheels are a bit too wide but, I have another project so..... the mounts look fairly simple to make but if i can save some labor thats a good thing....let me know. Thanks
gpalmer77
Picture attached, these appear to be the same parts as listed on the Caterham website for clamshells on a DeDion S3.
Mr Mark
They don't look like they would work. Hard to tell...I'll see if I can find some pictures with them mounted...
SevenAmerica
the pic looks like cycle wing mounts... if You need clamshell mounts I have some simple ones -- they don't have the headlamp brackets. PM me if interested.
gpalmer77
Here is what I have, and provided pictures for above. They came with a set of flared / clamshell fenders, and are listed as flared on the Caterham website here: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/brackets/1384-flared-wingstay-lh-de-dion-1997-imperial.html They are definitely not the right curvature for cycle wings, the curve of the stay matches my clamshell fenders that are sitting here. I do not know how they mount, I've never had them on the car under my ownership. There are a few different styles of these if I recall.
SevenAmerica
Okay, apologies… if they are Caterham then they definitely mount differently than older Lotus. My guess is they would work on an old chassis frame, but may need some mounting points added or modified.
gpalmer77
I believe the plain tube part clamps in where the headlights are typically mounted, the flat elongated eyelet is bolted where the rear of the top A-arm and shock bolt through. The headlight then mounts to the stay? Like I said, I've never fitted them, but that is how they appear to line up.
Mr Mark
I think I see how it goes....the headlamp would be further forward a lower I think.... I'm willing to try it, pretty sure if they need some mods it wouldn't be alot...
gpalmer77
Messaged.
SevenAmerica
Yes, worst case scenario is add some lightness by lopping that extra tube off (with oval tab that runs to the a-frame mounting). Then mount like the original Lotus brackets did thru the little pinch clamps on top of the engine bay front cross tube. Looks like the headlamp is intended to mount to the other tube - and there you have it!
