Can a Locost go road racing?

I an daydreaming about getting a competition license and dabbling in road racing. Is there a class for Locosts? I see where real 7's are legal for SCCA production class, but I see no mention for replicas... I wish there were something like the Spec Cobra class for 7 replicas... or is there?

hi!

i race with NASA Mid Atlantic chapter, and they will classify and let any car run, as long as it is safe! they have classes for many cars, based on power to weight (PTF thru PTA, and ST2, ST1, etc).

there is a guy here with us who has built a really nice Locost with R1 bike power; it is very fast, and very nicely put together! he drives it in the HPDE4 group; the fastest driver's ed group (pass anywhere with a point by). he could race it if he wanted, but he is satisfied to track it without doing wheel to wheel competion (he does run his in time trials, though).

if you have more questions about NASA, please let me know!

Hey Todd! Good to see you here. Thinking about getting the Lotus going again? :)

To the orignal Poster. You could race your car with SCCA as well. It would fit into SPU (Super Production Under 2 liters) along with my car. However, it is not a very big class and you won't have tons of competition. That would probably hold true with NASA as well.

I decided to build a Honda Civic for SCCA Improved Touring this year and plan to race next year.
