WOW, what a wonderful drive through the Texas Hill Country! The roads were great, weather was perfect and the wildflowers were in bloom. Thanks to all those who joined us for making this a truly memorable event.

After a brief Saturday morning orientation at the Kerrville La Quinta, we headed west on State Road 39 for a scenic drive along the Guadalupe river. We stopped at the country store in Hunt, and then preceded to US 83, and the little town of Leaky. Leaky sits in the Frio valley and is a popular stop for all those traveling this part of the Hill Country. We gassed up, and had a delicious BBQ lunch before taking the quick climb out of the valley on 337 and heading to Camp Wood and the Twisted Sisters.

For those that have driven across the flat expanses of Texas, the Twisted Sisters (335 & 336) are a pleasant surprise. A twisty, roller coaster ride though sparsely populated big ranch country. Pure delight in a Seven. It just doesn’t get much better!

The Sisters loop back to Leaky, and after a quick stop we retraced our steps back to Kerrville, stopping along the way for a group photo in front of a replica of Stonehenge.

It was a great day, but after 300 miles in a Seven, everyone was ready for a relaxing Tex-Mex dinner and good conversation.

Sunday was another great day. We headed north to Fredericksburg and then took 965 to Enchanted Rock, a single granite dome rising 425 feet above the surrounding terrain. After a group photo we continued north to Llano, and then wound our way back to Fredericksburg on 2323 for a relaxing patio lunch at a wonderful German restaurant.

After lunch it was off on another great drive on the back roads east of Fredericksburg. We stopped at one of the many local wineries, and then headed to Luckenbach. Willy and Waylon weren’t there, but the cold beer sure tasted good after a couple hundred miles in a Seven.

It was late afternoon by the time we left Lukenbach. We packed a lot of great memories in two days, but all good things come to an end so it was back to the real world.

For all those who could not make this years tour, don’t worry, you can join us next time. We have just begun to explore the Texas Hill Country.

Phil...thanks for the write up!

As a USA7s club officer, I think that turning some of these more regional meets/drives into annual occasions people can plan for/put on their calendar well in advance would be great.

Anyone on the West Coast up for organizing an "annual" similar to the Hill Country event or the Minnesota Lakes District drive from last year?

PNW2007 was probably too big to try every year (I know that an event like 7-7-7 would probably kill me to try to organize every year ), but perhaps a long weekend type thing, perhaps around a trackday or even a car event like Knots Berry Farm "kit car" show?
