Zetec I.D.

Can anyone tell me where to find what Zetec I have by the serial #, or other ways? I have looked but I’m unable to find any charts or info. I do know it isn’t an SVT other than that I‘m in the dark. I sure would hate to order parts for the wrong engine.

When looking at it from the front is the water pump pulley pretty much in the center of the motor or is it offset to the side. The early Zetecs (ZX1) have a centered pulley and the later versions are offset as I recall.

Plastic valve cover means it is a ZX3 (Focus). If it has an exhaust cam VCT solenoid it is a ZX2 (Contour from 3/98). For the ZX1 (Contour/Mystique from 95 to 3/98 or Mondeo) you also must see if the regular serpentine belt configuration is used or a shortened triangular one with reversed water pump spin. The latter requires a special water pump version that you can only get from Europe.

Maybe you can take a few close-up pictures of the engine from all sides and we all figure it out.

As sitting in the car the water pump is on the L side, and has 3 bolts. The cam covers are plastic and have the 1/2 round depressions into the head in the rear. It has the serpentine belt config. For a clutch disk to fit the little t-9 spline what do we use? My steel crank pulley looked to be just a few pounds as is.
