A friend asked me how many different builders there are and i guessed 15- 20. Then i searched forums and didn't locate a specific list. I recall coming across these.

If a builder with his variations , nationality, time period etc. it could be interesting

Lotus Seven - the original

Caterham- England and Canada?

Westfield - USA (FW260 looked interesting)

Robin Hood- England

Brunton -USA Stalker and Superstalker

Donkervoots

Dax,

Birkin

CRS 260 ?

Ultralite

Locost - general term homebuilt, from the book

The best source for your list would be Dennis Ortenburger, Lotus Seven & the Independents: Featuring the Lotus Seven and a History of the World's Independent Builders. The Lotus Seven is the most copied car in the world and tossing in the Locost builders who really knows how amny versions. (Locost is mentione in the book and the author actually built his own locost).

as far as the Wiki citiation, I guess one of needs to go over there and correct a few things. The 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 all share the space frame (as do most early Lotus). The 8, 9, 10 really have noting to do with the Seven. The Seven only looks like a Six otherwise very little in common. Now the Eleven is actually what the Seven is based on (yes the Seven as we know it came after the Eleven). If you strip off the body work and some outriggers from an Eleven you now have a Lotus 7.

The above list off hand forgets Stalker, Rotus, Costin....

John Tipler in his book Lotus and Caterham Seven, Racers for the Road states that "at the time of writing there are no fewer than twenty nine companies around the world making vehicles which bear a resemblance to the Seven". The book was copyrighted in 1995.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there have been a total of 81 different companies producing Seven type cars over the years but I cannot find the reference.

Back in the early 2000 Hans Smitts ( I think that was the spelling ) in Denmark had a website called Simple Sevens and listed around 60 companies that had or still were making Sevens. I think he dropped the site a few years ago. He's a super guy and I would love to thank him personally for being a big help to me when we were starting out in 1999. Since that time there are at least 5 new companies making Sevens.
