slomove
Need a Winter Break? I mean a break from the boring SoCal winter? I am wondering if there is interest in a 2 or 3-day trip on the weekend of 2/14-16 in the southern Sierra. Thinking of driving to Isabella Lake/Kernville (Caliente-Bodfish Road?) to stay overnight, then up Kern River Valley, some of the nice roads west like Parker Pass Rd. or Western Divide Hwy. (I understand this is all weather/snow permitting, and assuming the roads are not closed, anybody knows?) and either drive home from there or optionally go back via the coastal mountains with another stay. All brainstorming for now but I want to see if there is some interest (Rosie and I will probably go anyway ) Just imagine....the cold air will compensate for the altitude power loss....no hot feet, either. rzempel
Sounds interesting. There's some really beautiful high country above Isabella...though, I'd expect highway 99 to be closed in February. I don't know about the other roads. Count me in (tentatively). Randall PS. For a winter break, how about a Winter Solstice drive? The WS is Sunday Dec 21, this year. Weather permitting, we could meet for a drive along the coast....
Mondo
I wouldn't count on going over the pass. But there's some nice roads thru Caliente/Twin Oaks/Bodfish to Isabella. Also up thru Glenville/Woody from Bakersfield to Isabella.... can go up to Mineral Hotsprings but then your getting kind of high up there. I can't take any overnight trips but I can definately show you a days worth of fun roads around here.
slomove
I'll keep the weekend open and check again for interest and weather/road conditions in January. Gert
soareyes
I responded on CCC, but I'm 99% sure I could go on a President's Day tour. I'm interested in a day trip after Christmas too, but I've already got other plans for the weekend of Winter Solstice (before Xmas).
Locost 5.0
I could do a day or two, maybe meet up at lake Isabella? A coast trip sounds good too. Rod
