KiwiBirkin Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Im in the process of looking around for new shocks to replace my spax shocks that come with the Birkin, I have a chance to get some good front GAZ shocks from a supplier here in NZ, so what I would like to know is what should I be asking for I know that there is a recommended length of 294mm between the shocks mounting eyes when they are in place and the car is sitting on the ground, there will also be a compression size and fully extended size too. I know a few guys here have put new shocks & springs on there Birkins so any info would be most helpfull. I also will be getting new springs too, I would like to know whats recommended just for road use on the front & rear. Cheers KiwiBirkin
pi7ot Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Here are the Front damper dimensions for a 2001 Birkin front. Full extension...32.9cm between eye centers. Full compression with 26mm thick bumpstop..26cm. Body length...18.4 cm Body diameter...43.5mm Spring free length is 8" rate is 300 Lb/in inner diameter is 49mm Outer diameter is 68mm I have seen the Koni 2812 mentioned as a suitable replacement. I have used Carrera 6244/874L as replacements whilst retaining the stock springs. These are only height adjustable unfortunately...Too soft for track use, imo. m
KiwiBirkin Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Cheers Pi7ot for that info I have some thing to work with now and check the GAZ shocks against.
