rubo Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hey All I'm going through my newly bought Lotus Seven S3 with a 1600 Crossflow Ford 2255E engine, and now I've reached the valves. I've found the valve clearence for a HOT engine, but not for a COLD. Since adjusting the valve clearence for a COLD engine is easier I was wondering if anyone out there would know the clearence for a cold engine?? Also..does anyone know what the Iginition setting should be? How many degrees? Hope you can help:) /rune and SB2583
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I only have them for hot for the 1600 (I imagine yours has the A2 Cam). The first number represents the # of the valve fully open, the second is the valve you want to check and adjust for each exhaust you're looking for .022" and inlet is .010" 8 - 1ex 6 - 3in 4 - 5ex 7 - 2in 1 - 8ex 3 - 6in 5 - 4ex 2 - 7in Make sense?
lowflyer Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Best bet for ignition timing is to set it for the maximum setting you want at full advance. To do this you need a timing light with an advance meter on it, where you can dial in the degrees of advance that will still show the light at top dead center. Normally, total timing is in the 32-36 degree range at 3500-4000 rpm, which should give you about 8 to 12 degrees at idle. This is also a good way to make sure that your mechanical/vacuum advance is working properly. It is a good idea to have someone else handle the throttle while you concentrate on the timing. If you see any sudden "jumps" in the timing light while making the run it should cause some concern about the advance mechanics. It is not unusual to have some "shaking" in the timing light at 4000 rpms as this is normal "slack" in the cam/drive gear/distributor. Have fun!
rubo Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 @ thedingo8mybaby and lowflyer Thank you very much to both of you!
