jimrankin Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I was at the CA DMV bright and early (5:30AM) on Monday morning to get in line for an SB100 registration number for my WCM S2K. Could have slept in and had breakfast too and still not had a problem. At the friendly Los Gatos DMV the line is usually a "kit car gathering of the masses" but this year the entire turn out was three of us. No problem dialing through to Sacramento and when we three left there were no more applicants to be processed. The very helpful clerk said she had never seen a turn out this small and had thought that last years waiting line at opening of only about twenty "kit car nuts" was a fluke. Both of the other applicants (a Cobra and a 505 Speedster) had purchased partially completed cars that the original builders had decided not to spend the money to finish. Looks like the economy, at least here in the SF Bay Area, has decimated the ranks of local kit car builders. It would be interesting to know what happened at the DMV's elsewhere in the state.
V-Robb Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 10 of us SB-100 nuts went through Thousand Oaks DMV. Down from 16 last year...
