Front Fender Light

Rummaging through Advance Auto Parts this morning I found a Cab light that would fit well on the front fender of the Rotus/Lotus cars.

It is aerodynamic and "tear shaped". It is made to fit on a curved surface and a black rubber gasket is included. I saw the same product at NAPA but with a tan gasket. (Think of lights that you would see on top of a pickup.)

It looks to be made for monofilament bulbs (1156) .. but could probably be made to work with two filament bulbs (1157) for both turn and side lights.

Price: $3.96 each

See >Optronics Inc Cab Light part number CB-11AS

UPDATE: I decided not to go with this one ..

My turn signal is low and between the wheel and the body. Your solution will be pretty visible.

What's the latest status on your car?

That's what I want! Visibility!

The head is off and being redone.

BTW: I have purchased the unused Rotus top and sides from Ted!

Speaking of turn signal lights, mine have quit working. When flipping the turn signal switch or activating the hazard switch, the turn signal lights come on but will not blink. I am assuming that the blinker unit is defective but am not exactly sure where it is without a wiring diagram. Any ideas?

I've been thinking of using the above mentioned bullet lights which are similar to those used on the original Lotus 7s. But the question is .. do I wire them up for side lights or directional blinkers?

Well I think that they can be made to function as both. Trailer light circuits which integrates both stop and blinker into one bulb function would work here. Instead I would be using the circuit to integrate both side and blinker. And I have a spare circuit box just waiting for my Rotus to arrive!

Rob, the wiring should already be there. All you have to do is extend it from its current location to where you want it, and at most, put a dual element bulb in it.

Jeff, were you able to resolve your problem?

Yes .. but .. these are very small lights .. and would require rewiring the fixtures with two element sockets .. and I'm thinking of going with LEDs which means Off/ On will be much more visible than dim/ bright.

I haven't solved my blinker problem yet. I pulled what I thought was the blinker unit which had two prongs that fit into two slots of a three prong receptacle. I cleaned the contacts and hopefully re-installed it correctly. (It would plug in two different ways) This didn't help. I have stored the car for the winter and will probably not re-address the problem until spring.

  • 4 weeks later...

I received my amber LED bullet lights in the mail the other day. Look nice and small! I will probably install them where the fender bolt holds to the fender bracket (and use the bracket as a ground).

Price for the pair off eBay was $29 plus $6+ shipping .. much less than the above catalog price!
