Any rotary folks with pics of their exhaust systems?

I need to put a new exhaust system on my rotary Rotus and am looking for ideas on how to match the engine and the car with a custom exhaust. Mine exits on the passenger side.

The car came with an incredibly ugly and now rusted system that even Chris Custer, the Rotus designer, described it as ugly in a letter to his customer when the car was made. I received the system off the car but serviceable, but I want something pretty and streetable in decibels, and one which does not interfere with the rather highly modified engine. A lot of people have been telling me to just slap anything on there that looks good. It is on the passenger side and has to have a turn-out or turn-down at the end tip to give the passenger some relief from smells and chemicals in a bad wind. Previously, the car had a cutout on the bottom of the right fender where the pipe exited away from the passenger and under the fender, but the fender was patched when painted. So, I am happy if the exhaust can be cut down and turned out or down right before it reaches the fender. I don't want the pipes under the car, so as to further restrict the low clearance of the car to the street. My biggest concern is not to mess up the engine and I don't want to be cavalier about just sticking anything on it. I once had a SAAB three cylinder and put the GT exhaust on the non GT car and the engine was ruined. I don't know if that can happen on a rotary or, maybe you just put whatever you want on there.

Here's what it looked like. big oval mubbler on right side with a smaller round one in front of it. Pipe went thru notched out rt fender. The pipe ran under the car and was attached to the frame with a "U" bolt clamp. The right stone guard shield on the fender had to be notched out also. It was beat up and removed for painting. The stone shield will be recut from new stainless steel.

I am in the process of completing the sale of Rotus #3 and it had a Harley Davidson pipe on it that Meineke put on for me. It works fine, but it is a 2T-G and not a rotary and I don't know if it matters. I have two other Harley pipes lying around I could stick on the rotary Rotus if I needed to. I've attached 2 pics of the Harley/Meineke deal on Rotus #3 and welcome any suggestions.

manik, that thing is a beauty. I love the little doors in the fenders (I assume for reducing lift).

It's important to be aware that Rotary engines exh flow is high for it, discplacement and hot upwards of 1400deg + F also loud' vary loud. A twin rotor 12a or larger 13b has the same number of firing impulses as a v12 per revolution. Every time an apex seal passes the exh port there is an exhaust pulse, each rotor has 3 sides times 2 = 6 combuston events same as a v12, 12 cylinders Devided by 2 = 6. Piston has 1 exh stroke every other revolution.

It's been said that the internal combustion engine is just a bad air pump. Well the rotary's pumping effectancy is even less; so any restrictions on the intake or the exhaust can really effect the performance i.e. power of the engine.

some basic inf and parts also you might want to look at rx-7/8 web sites see what mufflers their using.
