beagley
Hey all, I was just wondering if there was anybody around the central Florida area that has built or is building a seven. I've been digging around for the past 18 months and have only been able to find 2 people. Both great guys, but both are 2 hours away from me and in opposite directions. Obviously I don't get to stop by that often. Dennis Brunton (http://www.bruntonauto.com) and Alan (http://www.smartsportscars.com) are the two gents that I have met. Both are top class and very helpful. Is there an event somewhere in FL where 7s show up? Looked into going to some of the scca and nasa meets to see if there are any autocrossing, but haven't been able to find the time to get out to Orlando or Tampa lately. Lastly, is there any way to satisfy this 7 bug? I would have thought it would have passed by now but I keep wanting to park my car outside so that I can have room to start build. Specifically engine builds.... I love a shiney lump..... Beags
Z3 Stalker
What's wrong with either kit? I would think it would be quite convenient have the manufacturer close by!!! Or do you want to scratch build?
beagley
There's nothing wrong with either kit. In fact the stalker has been the scariest car i've ridden in to day. I haven't been able to see the MK yet, but I'm looking forward to getting to see one. I was just wondering if there was anybody else in the central Florida area. I'm leaning toward a kit at the moment, but I'm not opposed to a scratch build.
snookwheel
We have a Super Stalker and live near Clearwater (West of Tampa) We do attend quite a few autocross's as do a couple other Stalker owners. There is a great guy named Ivan that has a Birkin near Lakeland. He shows up at many of the autocrosses too. I admit to being a bit biased, but you can't go wrong with a Stalker. The folks at the shop are real knowledgeable / helpful & having them so close is a huge bonus! The next event is at the brooksville Hernando airport August 8th. Check out Tamparacing.com. Great info. on all the club schedules. http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/auto-x-road-racing/241818-autocross-driving-event-schedule.html PS. I cheated and bought mine built. beagley
Thanks Snook, I will try to make it to Tampa in August. Just so happens that's my birthday weekend. I'm about 20 minutes from Lakeland and would love to see some of your kits. Hopefully I'll see some if you at Hernando.
snookwheel
Make sure you sign up early for the Brooksville/Hernando airport. You have to register something like 7 days in advance even as a spectator. It is an Active airport and Homeland Security rules require a list of people in advance Scott
Asylum67
We are getting set up to build Birkins and have meet with Dick Brink who is also a great guy and has been a tremendous help. We are in the Miami area and even though it is a couple of hours South. we will be promoting a few meets a year at Homestead and Palm Beach International in the near future. I'm actually doing some go-kart racing for my birthday in a couple weeks at PBIR (Aug 14th - 15th). They are having a hot rod/car show on Sunday the 15th and I might be sticking around to see that. Anybody planning to visit or appear in the show? I have some family in Pt. St. Lucie so PBIR isn't too far for me to visit as I can crash at their house for the weekend. Please keep us all updated on your meets, I would love to go. Beags
Asylum67
About fifteen years ago we used to have SCCA Solo events at the old Hialeah Park parking lot and then tried them at OpaLocka Airport on one of the runways. Both these great facilities are available as well Countyline Dragway which has a drifting track that can be rented for a very reasonable fee. I was at the Se7enfest in Fort Worth earlier this year and met a great group of people and I would like to expand on the places where other enthusiasts can meet and run their cars. beagley
Palm Beach seems like they have a pretty interesting track that would be fun in a seven. Now that I mention it most tracks would be fun in a seven. Asylum.... you mention that you were a hot rod builder by trade in the "intro" thread... I might have a few questions regarding car building in general, but thats another topic for yet another thread. Do you have a site for your business or any build threads?
