Mondo Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 How low can you go.... http://links.visibli.com/9a0afb4ac0dd13c6/?web=b87e44&dst=http%3A//blog.caranddriver.com/is-this-the-engine-of-the-future-in-depth-with-matti-holtzberg-and-his-composite-engine-block/
midgetracr Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Interesting. There was an effort years ago to make a 4 valve overhead cam 4 cylinder engine out of composites for Midget Race Engines. It never got going. Sooner or later someone will make it work.
turboeric Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I remember reading about the Polimotor effort years ago in either R&T or C&D. I'd assumed the idea had died, but apparently not.
danilo Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 More Vaporware :-) Like Ponzi schemes a seemingly never ending supply :-) Years..ago there was some effort to make utility motors (mowers/chainsaws/weedeaters etc) from plastic extrusions. Started as entire motors soon devolved into partial plastic components then finally air shrouds. Just wasn't much of a price difference from metal and the materials were not as stable 'as advertised' .
