whizzy Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Hello! I have a LHD Westfield with a Toyota 3tg engine and a 2tg cylinder head. Handbuilt headers(because they are SO CLOSE) really heat up the master cylinder and brake line to the front brakes. I have wrapped the headers and the line this evening and have not had the chance to test how effective it will be. I was curious if anyone on the forum has a similar engine/set up and they would post some pics of the master cylinder and exhaust in the engine bay. Has anyone used a duct to succesfully circulate fresh air to keep things cool? It appears I will need to modify the pedal box and go with dual master cylinders if my fix is ineffective. so I am looking for ideas that will give me a place to start. Help me make the Midwest sevens gathering this weekend! Thanks in advance! Wendell
MHKflyer52 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Hi Wendell, I do not have the same engine but have a similar setup that puts the header close to the master cylinder and clutch cylinder and the front brake like runs directly under the header and I do not have any issues with the way it is setup and I do not think you will either as there should be enough airflow through the engine compartment to keep the temp under control around the master cylinder and brake lines. Here is a link to a couple photos of how my exhaust is routed...hope this helps. https://picasaweb.google.com/MHKflyer52/ALotus7Replica#5076691058715388386 https://picasaweb.google.com/MHKflyer52/ALotus7Replica#5076694103847203554
whizzy Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Thank you for your response, Martin! Great news! Just back from an extended test drive, and it looks like the header wrap really made a difference! What a relief! Solid pedal and much much cooler underhood temps. WooHoo Wendell
SkinnyG Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 When I built my locost had the masters up front near the exhaust. I later changed to reverse-mount masters and a balance bar. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/skinnyg/DSC00137.jpg
